How to hook up a magnavox dvdr to fios dvr box?

Hi, new to the forum and tried to find the answer... but can't quite find it. I have a cheapy magnavox ZC320MW8. I don't care at all to use the recording function. All I want to do is play the kids' DVDs. I'm not up on all the technical terms for various cables but I've tried using an s-video cable and also the one with the 3 different plugs on it (red, white, yellow - not sure what that's called).
I'm also at a disadvantage as the player was a floor model so we got no manual or original remote.
The TV is not HD - it's an old Zenith (I can post the model number if that helps but would need to putt the TV out to get it). I have the remote for that and for the Fios box. I'm not sure what buttons to select (DVD, AUX, etc) to get this to work.
I think I've read that the S-video cable needs to go from the 'video out' port into the s-video port in the Fios box. Is this correct? Do I also need the other cable (for audio?).
Sorry to seem such a Luddite. One of these days I'll have a bit more cash and be able to upgrade to some quality equipment!

You could hook up the cable box using the the coax cable (going from rf out on the cable box into the TV and changing the TV to channel 3 for FiOS) then hook up the DVD player using the  existing red/white/yellow cables.

  • How to hook up Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac

Been browsing through discussions and Apple stuff, talked to support techs at Apple Care (with less than desired results), but still need help on how to do this.
Here's what I want to do: Get step-by-step instructions on how to hook up an "old" (think it was made in 1999) Power Mac G4 to my i.Mac computer.
    a) primarily to serve as back-up for my documents, pictures, music, etc., even programs if that can be done, and;
    b) actually use some of the old programs that are on that old G4 (i.e. Adobe Pagemaker)
    Here's what I have:
    1) a flat-panel i.Mac, 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB DDR SDRAM, using Panther;
    2) an old Power Mac G4 (the rather large, vertical hard drive) of which I know nothing about the specs....like memory, storage, or system it has, etc......at least until I can get into it. It's been sitting idle for about four years;
    3) a three-foot, 6-pin to 6-pin cable (Belkin) which I am told is what I need to connect the two computers via FireWire jacks.
So, presuming I have all that is needed to hook these two machines up, how do I proceed. A "1, 2, 3 instruction would be very much appreciated.
For example, should both computers be turned on "before" inserting the FireWire cable, or......should just the i.Mac be turned on, then insert the cable, then turn on the old Mac?
Once hooked up, and powered up, it's my understanding I'll see on icon for the old Mac on my i.Mac desktop. To copy files, I'm supposed to just drag and drop to the old Mac icon. Is that right?
Then to actually use the old Mac, I'm supposed to reboot my i.Mac, then hold down the "t" key just after the reboot "sound," or little circling icon, and I'll be in the old Mac? The screen will show everything on the "old" Mac? Is this right? Sounds simple enough, but.
If this is right and I'm actually in the old Mac, can I then sort and arrange documents I've dragged and dropped, and can I use programs that are already on that old Mac......like Pagemaker?
And, how do I get "out" of the old Mac and back into my i.Mac?
I see through discussions that I can apparently backup my entire i.Mac hard drive by going to the HD finder window and dragging and dropping my user folder icon (the little one that appears at the top and in the center of the Finder window, to the old Mac icon. Does that sound right?
I surely would appreciate some help on this. What I've got so far is piecemeal tidbits, nonsequential, and often, unclear.
Thanking anybody and everybody who might be inclined to help me out.

    Thank you A Brody,
This is all very helpful to a guy like me.
I guess the first thing I'll have to do is get an ethernet cable. Presumably, the FireWire cable will not be needed now. Correct?
The same questions still seem to apply. I did print out the "Connecting two computers using Ethernet" that you forwarded to me.
    1) But, do I power up both computers before installing Ethernet cable?
    2) After following instructions on the"Connecting two computers....." will an icon appear for the old Power Mac?
    3) After hooking up the Ethernet cable, do I have to re-boot, use the "T" key, to get into the old Power Mac?
    4) After fiddling around on the old Power Mac, how do I get out of there and back onto my i.Mac?
    5) Or, because it would be hooked up via Ethernet, could I simply go back and forth between the two computers?
By the way, after checking out your info on how to identify my old Power Mac, this is the info I've been able to glean, I think:
    The old Power Mac is:
    • A Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)........and therefore, it says, not able to serve as a target computer backup with my i.Mac
    • Apparently made in 1999
    • System, apparently, is OS 8.6 (my i.Mac is OS X 10.3.9...Panther)
    • Model number either M7631 or M7826 (can't find it on the computer)
    • Memory: PC 100 SDRAM, up to 1 GB (don't know how much it has now)
    • I have no idea how much storage is available (i.e. my i.Mac is 74.5 GB (I think)
    Thanking you again

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

  • How to hook video cameras to macbook air 11"

I was wondering how to hook a hd video and sd camera to my macbook air 11".  I would like to use it for web cam, and high qualiy live feed to hdtv.

Are you referring to mirroring or you just unable to set up homesharing.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

AirPrint finds any air print enabled printers on your wifi network, and won't find any printers that are not.  So if you print from, say, safari, and it finds that printer, then that is your printer.   It may have a different name than you were expecting.
Turn the printer off, and see if the print job still sees the printer.  That will confirm that the one it sees is yours.
What happens when you send the print job?
If you are sharing a wifi network with others, and one of them has a AirPrint printer on the network, you will see that one.  There is not way to have it forget one, so you will need to know your printer from the other printer, and select the right one.

It's just one of the many, many features that have been eliminated or changed. Leave feedback for the Pages team using the link in the Pages menu and review & rate the new versions in the Mac App Store.

  • How do you edit text that is in a text box?

How do you edit text that is in a text box?  I just want to change the font color of the text.  Solution in the Help files recommends selecting the text and then selecting Optional) To make further changes to the text box:
Using the Select tool or the Text Box tool, click an edge of the text box to select it, and then drag a corner to resize it. Use the Properties toolbar to change the border and fill options.
Double-click the text box to edit the text or change the text attributes. Drag across text to select it, and then select options from the Properties toolbar.
This is what the help files recommend
(Optional) To make further changes to the text box:
Using the Select tool or the Text Box tool, click an edge of the text box to select it, and then drag a corner to resize it. Use the Properties toolbar to change the border and fill options.
Double-click the text box to edit the text or change the text attributes. Drag across text to select it, and then select options from the Properties toolbar.
When I try the above solution I don't have a  "Options" in the "Properties" toolbar.
Why would they change a process that was so simple in previous editions to such a hidden awkward process?

Try with a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer and/or changing the blending mode.
If the effect is too much for the rest of the bulb, you may be able to mask it out.

How do I stop Firefox from auto-focusing on text boxes? Sometimes as a page is loading, I scroll down the page...only to have the page jump back to where there is a text box, with a blinking cursor, after the page is finished loading. It is an annoying feature and I want to turn it off.

Some pages use an onload event to set the focus to a text area or search field.
You can try NoScript to see if that blocks it.

  • How do I get to the bottom of a dialogue box that isn't visible? Critical Mail problem!

I tried sending an email to a long list of recipients in a group. For some reason, I got a werid dialogue box about how it my SMTP server didn't recognize some addresses (though they all seem fine). No big deal, normally I would just edit the message and fix/delete the offending email addresses. However, the bottom of the warning dialogue is off screen and I can't scroll down. All I can do is hit "enter" and try to resend. But then I get a repeat.
The message in question is not seen in either my Outgoing, Sent, or Drafts folders. At least not when the dialogue box is open. So I can't just kill the message.
I also can't quit Mail while this message is up. I can go to the Finder and force quit. But then if I restart Mail the dialogue box pops right back up and I'm stuck where I was before.
Basically, I just need to know how to get to the bottom of the warning dialogue box so that I can click on the "edit message" button.
    Help?!
Oh, I'm running the most updated version of OS X Lion.

I did that twice. Once, about an hour ago. And nothing changed. I did it again about twenty minutes ago, and still nothing. A few minutes ago I tried yet another force quit. And .... that seemed to do the trick. The offending email message is gone.
So my problem seems to be solved.
But the larger issue remains of a major bug in Mac OS, it seems. If a dialogue box is larger than the screen size, how is someone ever going to be able to deal with closing it or anything else? It would make sense to automatically allow the cursor to scroll down to the very bottom of any dialogue box, regardless of its size. After all, that's how windows work, right?
    Crazy!
