How to hook up the Qosmio G20 to a TV?

Hi, I posted here a long time ago and I still haven't found a solution to this problem.
I want to hook my laptop up to my TV. I'm always in a different room so I'll be either hooking it up to a 21" Toshiba, or a 32"Sony or a 51"Toshiba - I don't know if hooking up to different makes of TV's will create a problem. I've tried hooking the laptop up with an S-video cable and a DVI cable (both of which have a scart connection at one end).
I just can't get the thing to work with a TV!! Here's exactly what I'm doing when I try:
* I click start then I click on Control Panel
* I click on "Appearance and Themes"
* I click on "Display"
* I click the "Settings" tab
* I click on "Advanced"
* I click on the "GeForce Go 6600" tab
* I select the settings so that I get a clone view on the digital flat panel and a TV.
* I click on "Device Settings" to make sure that all the settings for the TV are correct.
* I press "Apply" and NOTHING happens!!
Can anyone help me out?! I got this laptop ages ago and I still haven;t got this feature to work! Any help will be really appreciated! I am eagerly waiting for ANY replies.

Since both the S-video and D-video cables have a scart connection at one end I always check through the scart channels on the TV when I hook up the laptop. However, nothing is ever displayed - I've even tried to scan for new channels, but nothing seems to work.
Also, I know about the Fn hotkeys, but it doesn't allow you to go through the different display settings (such as Ntsc or Pal settings and screen resolutions - all of which I've tried changing to get this thing to work).
Have you (or anyone else) got any other suggestions? Before I posted on the forum I checked through all the posts to see if anyone had any similar problems. Someone had the same problem and said that his BIOS setup had only HD working and so this disabled his S-video and D-video connection from working? How do I check the BIOS setup - maybe this is what's causing the problem?
Please help me out - all suggestions are welcome here!!

Is it possible to truly use the Qosmio as a mediacentre?
I want to have the Qosmio in one room and then connect it tom my TV and sound center in another room.
For the picture I belive that the DVI out can be used but for the sound, what can be used?
Everything should then be operated by the remotecontrol.
Allt this seems to be possible (on papar) but I haven't been successful to make it as a speider in the web mediacentre in my home?

About remote control I am a little bit confused: do you want to switch your Qosmio from other room through the wall or what? I also dont believe that you will be able to use some universal remote control for the Qosmio.

How do I recover my Qosmio G20-118 without loosing data?

I need to recover my system but have quite a lot of data in my D: HDD I would very much like to keep.
In this forum, Gipsyman said that I should be able to use the dvd recovery disc selecting the advanced recovery mode, however there are a lot of options and I have no clue. My HDD are independent i.e. not using the RAID mirroring.
Can you tell me how to recover system formating only HDD C: and leaving data in HDD D:?

I would suggest you back up your D drive just in case, whatever you do.
I don't know whether it's because of the raid setup or just my carelessness, but when recovering my G20 in expert mode it wiped both my drives. Luckily I was sensible enough to have copied all the data to an external drive.
I find the default raid option a pain to be honest and would rather it weren't there as personally I'd like to made a ghost image of my system (C) drive but I can't seem to do it as the recovered drive always fails to fully boot. I'm told it might be due to the raid drivers, but don't understand why and symantec have no clue either.

How do I hook up the audio on Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 to TV

I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 notebook and I am trying to get the notebook audio to play out my Insignia™-(22" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LED-LCD HDTV-NS-22E450A11) TV. The only connection I could see working to stream video to the TV from the notebook was with a RGB to RGB cable. That worked for the picture, but not the sound. I bought an audio cable with one end that fits the headphone out hole on my computer and the other end has r RCA plugs that fit into the red and white audio holes on the TV. The cables and the TV are color coded with red and white plugs and everything seemed to fit properly, but sound will not come out on the TV. I am wondering if anyone out there with a L555D also has an Insignia Tv and can tell me how to hook up the audio. Also, I read that the RGB cable is provides the lowest quality picture. Mores is right, there is no VGA input on the Qosmio G20 (I wish there was though), you have to use an S-Video connection from your Xbox. Using the Qosmio player works perfectly well, there's no delay at all, the only problem I had was the video quality was utterly terrible. S-Video out from my 360 to a TV was fine, but input into the laptop looked awful, oh well!

Qosmio G20: DVD Region Code???

Hi,
I am on the point to buy a Qosmio G20 wasn't it that I just learned today that they will only be available mid 2005 in Belgium.
However in preparation I have a few questions :
Since the Qosmio has a DVD play mode without booting Windows, it means the Region will probably be set somewhere in the Bios to a given Region.
Laptop users travel and my partner is American so we have Region 1 and 2 DVDs.
Is there any evolution in the WinDVD software when it runs on Qosmio to not have it lock in a region code after X play. I never understood that Laptops (mobile systems) have the same restrictions as Home Entertainment DVD Players (whow by the way everybody bypasses!)
So how can we play both regions on the Qosmio G20 or whatever will be available for Belgium.

The Regioncode can be changed 5 times.
After that the last choosen Region Code will be logged into the DVD Player.
But by the way,there are many (Freeware-)Programs that help you making life easier and bypass this Limitation.
The only thing you can do by way of precaution is to google a little bit around.

Qosmio G20-102: RAID problem when installing windows xp media center

First I didn't find the raid driver for my qosmio. I tried another Qosmio G20's RAID driver but when it reachs the stage when I ask windows to format the C driver it shows me an error. It says that it finds an error in the file KR10N and it ends there.

It seems that the Qosmio G20-102 belongs to the PQG20E series.
Searching on the Toshiba European driver page I found the RAID driver v1.03.0008 for Windows XP MCE (can be used also with XP Pro).
You will need an external USB FDD to include this driver into the OS.
But note; after the RAID driver installation you shouldnt format the HDD or create a new partition because this will delete the RAID driver from the HDD and the OS installation fails!

Qosmio G20: Qosmio Player and Tuner FM

I have seen a question about the tuner FM in the Qosmio G20 series (and other notebooks with Qosmio Player). Users have answered that Qosmio Player hasn't the tuner FM! This is wrong!
I have made a manual scan in Qosmio Player using the scan by frequency and it's possible to scan the range of frequency of the FM. So I have found some radio stations that I can save. The resolution is not the best but you can easily find some radio stations!

Therefore some units support a tuner and are delivered without the tuner.

Qosmio G20 - Wireless Connection using Thomson 580 Router

I am having trouble using the above Wireless router with my laptop. It all works fine with the 'wire' connected (i.e. the ethernet cable) but not without (using the cable defeats the object of having a wirleless router!) However when I remove the cable it does not recognise a connection - any ideas ? (warning: I'm abit of a novice so please treat me gently i.e. not too technical !) In case it is relevant I am in the UK using AOL (but I have checked compatibility with them and they have said the problem lies with my laptop or the router)

Firstly the WLan configuration is very complex and depends on different settings.
The Qosmio G20 works with both WLan standards: 802.11b and 802.11g.
The g standard is faster.
However, its very important to configure the WLan router. Usually you should receive the router manual together with the router. Check the router installation procedure and the WLan options.
On the unit the Wlan card should be enabled. Check the hardware switch on the notebook side and also the key combination FN+F8.
If you use the Windows to configure the Wlan you should enable the option in the WLan properties under Wireless Networks tab.
If you use the WEP encryption you should configure this. If the MAC address filtering is enabled on the router you have to insert the WLan card MAC address in the router table.
But all this information you should find in the router manual. Check it!!!

MPEG2 HW encoder on Qosmio G20?

I have the "feeling" that into the Qosmio G20 there is a buildin MPEG2 HW encoder which permit (for example) to convert VHS tape to DVD directly (with the bundled Intervideo WinDVD Recorder 2!!)
Anybody has any details about it?!

there is no MPEG2 hardware decoder built in. I read a lot of Qosmio series in different online PC magazines and I read there is all software decoded!
You can check this by yourself and look at the Device Manager, you won't find a MPEG2 hardware decoding device!

I have a Toshiba G20 Qosmio. :) It has windows xp professional installed on it.
I can access the Qosmio Player (pressing the tv button) when the laptop is off. I get a snowy picture.
I donnot have a remote. I am from South Africa.
Can someone help with the following:
- Do I need a remote to tune to a psecific frequency?
- If no, how do I tune to a specific frequency without a remote?
- How do I access the user interface on the Qosmio player?
- Can the Qosmio player be accessed from Windows?
- Is there a guide on how to setup and use the Qosmio player? If yes, please provide download link.

How do you want to watch TV?
What Qosmio player do you have?
As far as I know the Qosmio Player versions 4.3 and older do not support DVB-T signal.
Furthermore Im not quite sure if you would be able to receive the TV channels in South Africa if this Qosmio G20 has been released in European country.
The point is that the internal tuner would not receive the signals due to different PAL/NTSC settings.

In order to run scan you have to start the Qosmio player, press the F1 key and go into setup.
There you can do a scan. You dont need the remote control!
The other fact is that the Qosmio Player is not Windows based applications and you cannot start if from Windows. If Windows is running then you can use the MCE (Media Center) instead of Qosmio player.

Qosmio G20: How to disable/workaround SCMS-T for adiosyn with bluetooth headphones?

I've recently purchased a set of bluetooth stereo headphones (Creative CB2350) and found that due to the inclusion of SCMS-T copyright protection I cannot audiosync directly to my laptops bluetooth stack (Qosmio G20). The headphones come with an audio jack adapter (bluetooth transmitter), however it runs on a single AAA battery and cannot last more than about an hour; so I need to connect without this.
Is there any way to disable or workaround the requirement for SCMS-T copyright-protection in the latest toshiba bluetooth stack? and if not why not?! I've paid good money for both my Qosmio and my Headphones and I'm quit infuriated at the deliberate inclusion of software/firmware designed specifically to prevent me from using my hardware for legitimate purposes (i.e. what they were designed to do).

PS: Frankly I didn't have much of a problem with DRM technology before this, but now I can see just how irritating and pointless DRM is; compare the number of people who actually use bluetooth devices for pirating (negligable) to the number of bluetooth headphones that do not support SCMS-T (alot if all my google searchs are anything to go by) and you see just how stupid the whole idea of DRM over bluetooth really is.
In my not so humble opinion big corporations like toshiba should railroaded over converluted pap such as SCMS-T as a matter of recourse; the end user doesn't want to spend several years downloading licenses and scouring the web only to find out his/her hardware is utterly useless. (sorry for the rant but that is how I feel).

Thanks for responding again.
Initially I had thought that the adapter/transmitter failed due to a dead battery, although I have since confirmed that the battery is not dead, in fact the adapter works fine (at least for a time). It would seem that the adapter simply shuts down at random intervals (it has happened a few times now) and I can't figure out for the life of me why; the adapter is designed to switch-off after 2 minutes of inactivity although each time it (randomly) switches off I have been recieving audio so perhaps there is something wrong with the auto switch-off function? or perhaps the batteries are in the process of dying?
I have can't recall seeing an estimate of battery lifetime for the adapter on the creative product website (that is not to say there isn't one) but the headset has an estimated continuous runtime of up to 8 hours (on its 2xAAA batteries) so I would assume that the adapter can last at least as long (on its 1xAAA battery); if not this amounts to a major design flaw in my opinion. Sadly the adapter doesn't come with an AC adapter, it is only little itself and I assume it would require one heck of a transformer. ;)
Bah, I'll try and get the blasted thing to work reliably over the next week or so and if I have no luck creative can sort it out. It would still be nice to use my headset without the aid of the audio jack, seeing that headset logo on my bluetooth 'radar' screen is a bit of a tease. ;)
Incidentally I have been probing furiously to find a set of bluetooth headphones which support SCMS-T and it would seem there is only one set on the market (by bluetake) and what's more it would seem that the SCMS-T is specifically designed to degrade sound quality (don't know to what extent but regardless this seems like 1 step forward followed by 5 steps back to me) which would seem incompatible with any bluetooth consumer audio products - Toshiba me thinks it is time to lock the proponents of SCMS-T in a cupboard somewhere and get to work on bluetooth stack v5.0. ;)
