Since time machine backed up my computer does that mean I can delete files so I can increase storage space on my hard drive?

    NO!
Time Machine is not an Archival Backup. It will keep files for a while, but if it needs the space, it will delete files that no longer exist on the hard drive.
Get a couple external drives and move the files to both of them.

  • HT4910 A question I would like to know how I can eliminate old backup in I Cloud so I can have more space

I would like to know how I can Eliminate my old backup, so I can have more space for new storage

You can delete it by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device you want to delete the backup for under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Note: be absolutely sure you no longer need to the backup for anything as once deleted you can't get it back.

  • How do I remove recovered photos (used photorec to recover lost photos) to have more space in my macbook pro HD?

How do I remove recovered photos (used photorec to recover lost photos) to have more space in my macbook pro HD?

    Hello there, Shrid.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews how to Sync photos:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You will just sync to the new computer. Keep in mind:
    Additional Information
Syncing photos with your device will create an iPod photo cache.
Syncing photos can only happen from one computer or user account at a time. Syncing photos with a different computer or user replaces the photos on the device.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.
On iPhone and iPod touch using iOS 5 and iOS 6, all synced photos will appear in a unified category called photo library. Photos are not duplicated; this is a way to view all synced albums in one place. You can also tap a specific album beneath photo library to view individual albums.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.

  • Deleted TM backup to start over, now TM says it needs more space than avail

I deleted the backup image on my 500 GB Time Capsule to start over. Now Time Machine says it needs 700 GB of space and only 350 GB available. I only have 100 GB on my MacBook with OS 10.5.8. How do I let TM know that I want to start over and only backup the 100GB with today as a baseline? Thanks

TM says it needs more space (530 gig) for the backup that is actually on my IMAC (used 420 of 1 trb). Any ideas why TM will not back-up and why it requires 530 gig when my IMAC has only used 420 gig?
Because TM needs workspace on the TM drive, and yours is much too small. TM adds 20% to the estimated size of the backup when requesting space.
But to work well, TM usually needs 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up. See #1 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Short term, you may be able to "finagle" getting backed-up by excluding a lot of things temporarily, running a backup, then removing some exclusions and running another. That way, the 20% won't get applied to the total amount of data all at once.
That will work, for a short period of time, but not for long. You need a much bigger drive.

  • How do I delete items from my start up disk so I can download yosemite

How do I delete items from my start up disk to create enough space to download Yosemite?

You need at least 6 GBs to download the file and another 6 GBs to install it. Plus, you need at least 12 GBs free space on your hard drive.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • How do I clear up Temp files from Photoshop to gain more space in my HD?

How do I delete temp files created by Photoshop? I can't find these files.
I only have one HD. It says capacity is 243.22 GB and available space is 1.58 GB. I already backed up my personal files so I expected it should have more disk space but it didn't.
How can something use up 243 GB space in my mac?

"I would suggest reporting back before deleting anything, unless you really know what it is."
I am going to be back in here shortly after using OmniDiskSweeper. I just have a one month old infant on my lap who needs attention, that's why.
Yes, I really wouldn't know what files are to be deleted safely. OmniSweeper doesn't tell me that. But at least I know what is taking so much big space in my HD, what program I can survive without it so I can sort it out which to delete or not.

  • How do I save info from my iPhone to iCloud so I can free up space so I can update to IOS 8

I cannot update to IOS8 as I do not have enough memory on my iPhone.  I thought everything goes to iCloud but I am unclear about this and I do not want to delete APPS or pictures from my iPhone.  I do not want to lose anything yet.  What must I do to recovery more memory so I can update.  This is also happening with my iPad mini.
    Thanks!

Connect to iTunes to do the update - you won't need nearly as much free space in that case.

  • How do i get firefox to read a *.do file? I can in IE.

I download a *.pdf file in this format & am unable to view in firefox but if i download in IE i can view & print the *.pdf file. How do i fix this?

Windows knows what to do with a DO file. Do you rename it to
PDF, or leave it as a DO?
Go to a download page with the DO file. Tell Firefox to open the
file. It should ask what to do with it.

  • How do you save a pic as a .jpg file so I can email it as a file and not as a pic?

Have 6 pics in an album and want to save them individually in a .jpg file.  Will email and recipient will select which 2 or 3 he will use in a newsletter.  When I select "email" it just attaches a pic to the message - my guy needs a jpg file!  Thx so much.

    ohpancakes
In theory you're dead right, but a lot of mail clients don't handle embedded jpegs gracefully, and sometimes other users aren't as comfortable on their machines as they might be. Sending plain text solves both issues.
