The worst offender is the Washington Post app, but it also happens with the Salon app - in other words, apps that regularly update content. Other utility and game apps are unaffected. This happens only very occasionally from Safari.

How do I fix the iTunes permission problem - album folder is read-only?

When I imported music files from Windows iTunes library, I set iTunes to copy the files to its own library folder and had "keep music folder organized" checked. So it creates a folder for each album by the album name. But recently since last time I ran the "repair permission" from DIsk Utility, every time I change album name, I lose the access to the folder. The permission is set to read-and-write for "system" instead of "me". So I can no longer edit the song (tag). But the rests of the folders and main iTunes library are just fine (with read-and-write permission to "me"). My account is admin.
I figured out a workaround for the problem. I can copy the folder to a location I own (such as desktop), then bring it back to iTunes to replace the folder. But I certainly don't want to do that every time I change album names. How do I fix the problem? Running permission repair does not help.
My mac experience started on the day Leopard was released, so please help.

You should be able to select the folder, Get Info (command-I, the command key is the one with the Apple and the funny squiggly thing next to the space bar). At the very bottom of the Get Info box is Sharing and Permissions. You may have to click on the triangle to open up that section. You should be able to change permissions from there if you have admin access. You may also need to click on the little padlock in the lower right and put in your password before you can make changes. If you want to apply the changes you made to folders inside the folder, click on the little button with the gear on it and select Apply to enclosed items.

I just got my bank card updated, received it in the mail today and when i put in the activated card in my billing account iTunes said i need a proper code. i typed everything and click done and it said the same thing again, there's no button next to the billing card info to remove the card information to switch to gift card as well.

This kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
#run Firefox in safe-mode to disable all extensions and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
#update all extensions and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#disable all extensions and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
#enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
#do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
#disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
#check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
#check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
#clean up your OS registry, using appropriate software. If this doesn't do it, I'm out of ideas. Except make sure you've followed my instructions correctly.

I attempted to install DirecTV online viewer and the pop-up reoccurs every few seconds with a message indicating "Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple. If I click "Reopen" the message just pops up again and I cannot get this to stop popping up if I select ignore. I searched Applications in "Finder" to try and remove "NDSPCShowServer" but it isn't listed. I don't know what this application is or how to fix this problem. How can I fix my page numbering problem?

I am creating a catalog in InDesign. Master pages were set up so the left and right pages had the page numbers in the lower outside corners.
Today I moved some pages around, and as a result the left side pages are now right side, and vice versa.
The problem I am facing is that on some of the pages, the page number is now in the inside corner, and on some of the pages, the page numbers are on both the inside and outside corners. The numbering is correct, but the positions are wrong.
I tried:
1. Overwriting all master page items for the page, then trying to delete or move the page number, but there is a faint yellow box around the number and it cannot be deleted or removed.
2. Applying the correct master page to the page I am trying to fix; this works in some cases, but in others it just places the new text boxes on top of the old ones.
Any help would be appreciated! I am using CS6 on a Mac. My master pages include a text box at the top, a blank box to show the page with bleed, and a page number indicator.

It has been two days since I posted this discussion. I have gotten over 80 views but not a single reply. I am just wondering why. Is the discussion to long? Have I violated some rule? Some changes have been made to make things a little clearer. I am sincere about this and want to make what ever correction is necessary. Plus I really do need help.
I recently bought a iPhone 3gs from a friend. AT&T was the phones carrier so in order to use it on the carrier of my choice I had it unlocked and activated the phone with my carrier (actually straight talk) on a AT&T compatible SIM card. All of my friends settings and contents had been successfully erased and the phone was operating good. I have run into a problem though and I am hoping once again that someone can point me in the right direction towards a solution.
Here is the problem:
I attempted to sync my phone with iTunes on my computer and a screen came up asking me how i wanted my phone to be treated, like a new iPhone or to back up an existing one (not sure how it was worded). My reasoning was that it is not a new phone, so not understanding the consequences of these options I chose "back up an existing one." Well, the result is that although I can still make and receive calls and send texts, all of my settings and contents have been erased and replace with my friends old settings and contents. Now, I cannot and never could erase settings and contents from the phone because it is and was passcode protected and my friend has forgotten the restrictions passcode. When I had my phone set up after it had been unlocked and activated, I did it through itunes for that reason. But now I am back to having a restrictions passcode and I cannot erase anything. Now each time I try to restore my phone through iTunes, the only thing that happens is that it updates the iOS.
What I want to do is erase it and start fresh. Not sure how to do that now and would really appreciate the help.

How can I fix local name resolution problems

I have a Macbook Pro Retina running 10.8.4. One thing I've always had problems with is resolving my local names.
When connected via wifi, I can ping localhost just fine. However my computer's name is finney. And I cannot ping finney. However I can ping finney.local. Other machines on my network can also ping finney.local. I've always been able to live with this inconvenience 'till now. This macbook needs to run a local service that uses the value returned from hostname -s as the name of the machine and then tries to connect with that name.
In System Preferences -> Network -> wifi -> TCP/IP I've set my DHCP client ID to finney.local. So the hostname command returns finney.local and hostname -s returns finney. I can't believe I've spent so much time trying to figure a way around this.
My preferred options would be to figure out how to make it so I can ping this computer using its name finney. My DHCP server at home is a wifi router, through which I can find no option to specify a name for my macbook.
My second choice would be to figure out how to get hostname -s to return finney.local. At least if I could do that then my rabbitmq instance would be able to startup.
I'd be much appreciative if someone could help with some suggestions on how to get around these problems.

How Do I Fix My CS5 Download Problems?

I had to reinstall Windows recently and I'm trying to put CS5 Design Premium back on my computer. It has no CD slot so I need to download it. I've tried to download it several times from the following page:

I keep getting the following error: "A problem occured while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write priveleges on the destination folder."
This propmpt is unhelpful as I have 16GB of Ram and have been running the exe as an administrator. I've tried using 7-zip on the .7z file, but on each of the downloads I've recieved I get errors. Because I'm getting different numbers of errors for each of my attempted downloads I'm expecting I'm expecting that it keeps getting corrupted somehow.

You can try downloading the program on a different machine that has probably a faster internet connection & one that doesnt disconnect frequently. Then use a flash drive or any other removable media for transferring the files to the machine on which you want to install the program.

How do I fix this disk permission problem?

I use Disk Utility frequently. My iMac was shipped by a friend and got jostled so I rarely restart the machine. The internal DVD drive stopped working. I bought an external DVD drive that works fine. I was afraid the motherboard might be the problem, not the internal drive itself. Since getting the machine, I did a clean install of Snow Leopard. Everything seems to be working fine but when I use Disk Utility this always happens- I have lots of wrong disk permissions, always the same ones. It takes about 15 minutes to do a whole scan. Here is what it shows- all having to do with Java- and the final problem is always the same-"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired":
