How to I get iMovie to recognize a moved iPhoto library?

I am very close to running out of space on my comupter - and my iPhoto library was taking up a huge chunk of space.
So, I moved my iPhoto library to an external harddrive that I keep plugged into my computer.
Unfortunately, I have many video projects in iMovie where I used clips from iPhoto. Now that the library has moved, any time in a project that a clip from iPhoto is supposed to play there is a black screen with the words "source clip is missing".
Please let me know how I can keep the iMovie projects in their completed state (aka without these source clip missing errors) while still having the iPhoto library on my external drive.
Thank you so much to anyone who can help!
(I have iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09)

Hi
I don't think it can.
My wild guess is that it (iPhoto Library) has to be put back - then in iMovie some sort of moving the movie project with it's recourses might work. BUT I'm out on very thin ice here as I prefer iMovie HD6 and FinalCut and here I create a folder first with my raw material movies, photos, audios and texts and put this on an external Mac OS Extended (HFS) formatted drive. This keeps movie project and material stored in one place and I can have the Start-Up hard disk reasonable free (minimum 25Gb)

  • How do you get Photos to recognize the "old" iPhoto Library on an external drive without it copying it to the internal drive on the computer which is low in HD space?

How do you get Photos to recognize the “old” iPhoto Library on an external drive without it copying it to the internal drive on the computer which is low in HD space?

Launch Photos while holding down the alt/options key.
This will show the Library Chooser panel. Select the library on the external drive. Photos will create a Photos Library on the same drive.
Photos may not be able to open the library, however, if your external drive has an incompatible file system. It needs to be formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled) and locally mounted, not a remotely mounted volume, as described here:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture

  • How can I get iMovie 10 to see my iPhoto Library after I relocated it.

How can I get iMovie 10 to see my iPhoto Library after I relocated it. I moved my iPhoto Library to a secondary hard drive, because my main SSD wasn't large enough. I then upgraded to IMove 10.0.4 and also moved my iMovie Library to the secondary hard drive. When I highlight the iPhoto Library in iMovie there is nothing there. Any ideas on how to get iMove to find my relocated iPhoto Library?

I think I may have solved my own problem. I left cliked on the relocated iPhoto Library and went to "Open with >." I then went to "Other...." I then set the wind located in the bottom labled "Enable:" to "All Applications" and picked iMovie. It gave me a error, but the ultimate result was that iMove now was linked to my iPhoto Library.

  • How can I get iMovie to recognize the external camera?

iMAC running OSX 10.6.8 recognizes external HD Camera hardware, but iMovie fails to recognize the device.  I can copy files "manually" using Finder, but cannot import them directly into iMovie.  How can I get iMovie to recognize the camera?  I have already re-booted all devices and tried multiple USB ports.  In all cases the OS recognizes the camera, but iMovie does not.

OK This camcorder is a fine camcorder. I have an earlier model of a similar camcorder from Panasonic. However, this newer model has one problem. It is not compatible with iMovie if you shoot at the highest quality mode, (which is 60P or 50P - which might be called 28MBPS mode). If you shoot 30P or 30i (even 60i) it will import to iMovie. Also, iMovie can handle 1280x720P60 and P50.
It will definitely work on iMovie 11. It should probably work on iMovie 09. I doubt this camera will be recognized at all on iMovie 08, but it is worth a try. To see which iMovie you have, click iMovie/About and check the version. 9.04 would be iMovie 11. (9.08 is the current version, but it will not run on OSX 10.6.8). 8.06 would be iMovie 09. 7.1.4 would be iMovie 08.
OK So how to work around this limitation?
    1) If you have Final Cut Pro X ($300) or can justify buying it, it will import 60P and 50P from this camera. However, if this seems a little pricey to you, keep reading.
    2) If you set your camera to record in 1080P30 and shoot a short clip, then iMovie should see the camera. Then I would suggest using iMovie import screen to create a CAMERA ARCHIVE of your camera. This will copy to your Mac the entire contents of the video files on your camera. You will need them later. I am assuming you have some valuable footage on the camera that you would like to have.
    3) Going forward, the simplest thing is to shoot in 1920x1080P30 and use iMovie normally. The biggest advantage of P60 or P50 is when you need really high quality slow motion effects. In other words, after you edit your movie, everything is converted to P30 or P25 anyway.
    4) If you want to retrieve the 1080P50 or 1080P60 clips that you have shot, then there are a couple of apps you can buy to convert them to a form that iMovie can edit. Two such apps are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. There are also various free apps, but I cannot vouch for them. Do a search on google and you may find some that work.

These are things I've already tried:
    - camcorder is connected to AC power

    - tried iMovie already open when camera connected
    - tried camera connected before opening imovie
    - ran software update on computer
    - restarted computer
    - turned camera on and off

  • How do I get iPad to use a different iPhoto library?

I had to make a new copy of my iPhoto library and now it is current on my computer.  the iPad is still referencing the original library.  How do I reset this on the iPad?

Start iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad. Select your iPad in the left column of iTunes on your computer and select photos in the right column. Under Photos check the sync selected albums choice and select the albums you want to have on your iPad. iTunes uses the active library used by iPhoto on your computer so the album list that appears should be your new library. Once you have selected the albums you want on your iPad select Apply or Sync. The sync process will take place, your old photos on the iPad will be removed and the new albums copied to the iPad.

    Hi Kevin,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.

  • How can I get Imovie to recognize clips from my Camcorder

I have a panasonic HDC-TM700 camcorder I recorded in AVCHD mode and Imovie won't recognize the clips.
Does anyone have any tips for converting the clips into a readible format?

It was Imovie11. VoltaicHD is working so far. Thanks Mate!
It seems funny that camcorder companies & Apple don't rectify these problems faster. The whole point in recording footage is to make movies, right?

  • How do I get iMovie to recognize my Time Capsule

I manully moved all my "events" over to my Time Capsule. However, when I launch iMovie and click the show drives icon, it shows my Time Capsule but it has a little triangle in it giving the impression that there is something wrong with it. I'm connected to the Time Capsule using an ethernet connection, so it's direct connect and not over wifi. When I'm in Finder, the Time Capsule connects and shows no errors at all.
My movie "events" are safe but I wanted to be able to work on them where they reside on the Time Capsule. Is this at all possible?
    Thanks in advanced.
***I found the answer. Time Machine/Time Capsule and iMove are NOT compatible . Need an actual external hard drive for this to function***
    Message was edited by: BorderK9

You are correct. They are not compatible. This is for performance reasons, especially over WiFi.
In your case, performance might be acceptable. The way you could get around this is create a symbolic link to your Time Capsule event folder from within the Event folder on your internal drive.
I can't help you more than that, because I have not tried this myself. If you do a search of these discussions, you may find posts by people who have tried this.

  • How can I get IMovie to recognize my camcorder?

I got a Panasonic HDC-SD60 camcorder but when I hook it up to the IMac and IMovie 6.0.3 it doesn't see anything connected. What do I need to do?

iMovie 09 was a huge improvement over iMovie 08. Don't use iMovie 08 unless you have to. iMovie 08 may support your camera, but I am not sure. Your camera was manufactured well after iMovie 08 came out, but it still might work.
iMovie 09 and iMovie 11 (the newest) have all the features of iMovie 08 plus a lot more.

  • How can I get iTunes to recognize the apps that are missing from the library screen but still on the machine??

My apps are not showing-up in the iTunes library but they are present in the apps folder. How can I get iTunes to recognize their presence?
Library-Apps-All (only three of several hundred appear).
Apps are still present in Users-Music-Mobile Applications
    I am running iTunes 11.0, OS X 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro.
Ran Disk Utility, Techtool, Disk Warrior and then reinstalled Mountain Lion, updated it and repaired permissions. No change.
There is a file that says 'iTunes Library (damaged), which is the iTunes Database file. How can that file be re-created?
Any technical help on replacing that file with a new, fresh one would be appreciated!

It has always been very basic to maintain a backup of media and other important files.  If you chose to reinstall the OS without having a backup, well that just is not smart.
If you are in the US and running iTunes 10.3 or later, iTunes purchases can be redownloaded via iCloud.  Simply log into the iTunes store, select purchases, purchase history and redownload the content.
If you are not in the US.... well, seems you just learned and important and possibly expensive lesson.

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

Hi jt - Alex was actually referring to video clips in iPhoto not appearing in the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library in iMovie - thanks for your post though (the 2 words are very similar).

  • How do I get iTunes to recognize a new device if I accidentally did not hit new device when I first hooked it up? I hit the button that said I wanted to back it up from my old info

How do I get iTunes to recognize a new device if I accidentally did not hit new device when I first hooked it up? I hit the button that said I wanted to back it up from my old phone. The new phone is my husbands and I don't want to back up my phone info on it. I re connected it hoping it would prompt me with the option again and it doesn't , it just shows up as a back up to my phone. How can I get it to give me that option in the beginning again

First of all, I think the first time you sync an iPod that's formatted for Windows on a Mac, the sync process reformats it for Mac. You can check what it is now by looking for the iPod with Disk Utility. If it's Mac OS Extended, it's formatted for Mac already.
Also, there is no current iPod updater app these days. iTunes handles it through the Restore button. If you are not able to use the latest iTunes because of your Mac, I can understand. The latest version of iTunes should run with 10.3.9 or later, if the hardware can handle it.
You said the battery was low so let it recharge for a while.
You should also reset the iPod. It's part of the 5Rs, which you should go through as the starting point for iPod trouble-shooting.

  • When I open InDesign files from our design team, the fonts don't show up even though I have them installed on my computer. How do I get it to recognize fonts I have installed?

I use my Adobe programs from the Creative Cloud. When our design agency sends me files, I open them and fonts I have on my computer aren't showing up when I open the file. Everywhere online it says I need to add the fonts to InDesign's font file, but since I'm working out of the Creative Cloud, I don't have that option. How do I get InDesign to recognize these fonts when I'm opening files from our agency?

ID sees fonts installed on your computer and contained in a Document Fonts folder in the same folder as the document, if one exists.
I don't really understand what you are saying about fonts you have installed not showing up. And cloud makes no difference -- all the applications and support files are installed on your hard drive.
