Hi, if tryly a PowerMac, (PPC instead of Intel), you may need a Firewire Drive to be bootable, most PPC Macs cannot boot OSX from a USB drive.
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

You will only know about the hard drive when you try to access it in TDM from your other computer. If you cannot boot into TDM mode or if the drive does not appear on the new computer's Desktop then it is likely bad.
What you are thinking about as a recovery disk is the Recovery HD normally created when you install Lion or later on the computer. You boot from it as follows:
    Boot Using Command+R keys:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"COMMAND" and the "R" keys together.
      3. Release the keys when the Utilities Menu appears.

With an upgrade, you'd have to first reinstall Vista, using the recovery media, then you'd have to apply the upgrade.
A better solution is to buy a program like Acronis TrueImage and use it to make a restorable image backup of your hard drive with Windows 7.

Try tapping away at the F11 key immediately after powering on the laptop to get into HP Recovery Manager which can be used to do a System Recovery back to Factory settings.

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

  • How to create recovery disk for windows 8.1 after update from windows 8.

My laptop came with windows 8 and i have recovery discs for windows 8.
Now i've updated to windows 8.1, so i want to creat recovery discs for windows 8.1.
So in future when i use recovery discs i dont have to download windows 8.1 again.
Please tell me if there is any way to do this.....

As colakid posted, in Windows 8 the ability to create a recovery CD/DVD has gone. Your options are to:
    create a recovery USB; or
    create a recovery image.
    Recovery USB
Colakid's post talks you through how to make a recovery USB: from control panel, choose Recovery, then Create a Recovery Drive, and follow the prompts.
However, the 'recovery USB' can be a bit misleading. When the wizard starts, there is an option to 'copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive'. If you do not check this option, you will still need installation media to reset your PC.
Since you have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, you will probably not be able to check this option, as it will be greyed out (like it is in the picture in Colakid's post).
If you go ahead and create the USB anyway, you will be able to boot to it, but you won't be able to reinstall Windows unless you have the installation media (or possibly a system image, though I haven't tried that).
    Recovery image
The recovery image is an image of your computer that Windows will use when you select the 'refresh my pc' option. You can create a recovery image using the recimg.exe tool.
First, open an elevated command prompt (type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
Next, create the recovery image by typing:
    recimg /createimage [path]
Where [path] is the folder you want the image in, eg C:\Recovery. You cannot set the file name - it will always be called CustomRefresh.wim.
Let it run its course. When it's done, you can check that it is the current recovery image by typing
    recimg /showcurrent
It's important to keep in mind what a recovery image contains. It will have your Windows system files (in their current state), and the desktop apps you have installed (so it makes sense to do this after a fresh install of Windows). It will
not backup any Metro apps or user files, because these are not deleted during a system refresh. If you want a complete backup of everything on your computer the way it is now, you should make take a complete system image (which
can be done from the File History settings in control panel - at the bottom left there will be a 'System Backup Image' option - or you can do it using any other backup software like Ghost or Acronis).
In my case, I created the recover image straight after upgrading to Windows and it was about 6 GB.
Prepare/Create and register an recovery partition, so the option Copy the Recovery Partition becomes available in the recovery drive UI  application.
In elevated command run> RECIMG -CREATEIMAGE C:\REFRESHIMAGE<
This will create a new custom.wim in a folder Refreshimage.
Now lets get ready to register the path of the image, so our create recovery drive option(COPY THE RECOVERY PARTITION FROM THE PC TO THE RECOVERY DRIVE) becomes available.
    >  In the folder you created there will be a> custom.wim<
    change it to>INSTALL.wim<
    > Create a folder In Cd/directory using Elevated command> mkdir c:\Win8.1-Recovery,>
    Win81-Recovery<.
    > Copy the  INSTALL.WIM. Put in the Win81-recovery folder created.
    > Run in elevated commad>REAGENTC /SetOSImage /Path C:\Win81-Recovery\INSTALL.WIM /Index 1<
Do not copy the arrows if using copy and paste, that is my way of pointing out lines of code
Information provided by the link below, thanks Keith. I simplified the process for easy following and added my own tweak from trial and error for the install.

  • System Recovery disk for Windows 8.1

Hi, I have upgraded my pc from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Every thing went ok. Now I have upgraded it to Windows 8.1. So far every thing went fine. However, can some one tell me how I can create a System Recovery Disk at this stage? I have managed to create
    a Recovery Drive USB stick.

    Hi,
According to your description, I suggest you use system image backup to create a System Image.
You may refer to the following steps:
1.Press Win+Q, search File history. Then click it in the display list.
2.In the File History control panel that appears, look in the lower left corner. The option you're looking for is System Image Backup. Click that, and the familiar Create a System Image wizard appears.
    Hope this helps.

  • Product Name: HP Pavilion g6-2006tx Notebook PC... Require a recovery disk for Windows 7 Home Basic

    Sir,
The recovery disk that was prepared for my Laptop has been corrupted and is not functioning. The laptop shows an error message as 'BOOTMGR.EXE is missing'. Whenever I use the disk, it starts off well but it stops after 13% of the installation is done. There is no recovery partition in my laptop as it was deleted after the recovery disk was burned.
All this started when I wished to format my Laptop and reinstall the operating system.
I donot wish to install any operating system other than my original supported WINDOWS 7 HOME BASIC. So, if you could send me a recovery disk of the same, it will be very helpful. Any other details required shall be provided.
Your hasty attitude in this matter would be highly appreciated.

NOTE: If you cannot find an "Order Recovery Media" section, select another operating system from the drop down list until you find a "Order Recovery Media" section or you determine that a Recovery Media section does not exist in any of the operating system selections. If you cannot find a Recovery Media section for your computer model, HP does not have a recovery kit available.

  • T500 Recovery disk for Windows 7 64 bit

I have received Recovery diskWindow 7,64 bit and they do not appear to be valid.
Does anyone have the same recovery disk? If yes, do you have three files in theWindows 7 statup menu after installing the recovery disks?

    Hi,
please apologize, but I'm a bit lost.
In you first post you noticed following: "I have received Recovery diskWindow 7,64 bit and they do not appear to be valid."
I thought, that you have some issue with the maing Disks?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Please note, that the Recovery CD/DVDs are made for multiple systems with multiple configuration. The correct installation of the correct drivers is accomplished due to multiple scripts, that are executed, which detects your system configuraiton and according to their output, the appropriate drivers will get installed.
I wanted to remark this as, there might be some differences in the installation of two systems, when they have other configuration.
Please feel free to correct me if I missed some point.
    Cheers

  • Hp windows recovery disk for windows 7 failing at 84% completion

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv71-4100.  The hard drive failed so i purchased a new one and am now trying to reinstall windows through the three disks I got through HP.
Disk 1 work fine all the way through.  I then insert disk 2 when prompted and it begins working properly.  At 84% it stops and eventually pops up an error message (something with the C drive).
Any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I've seen this error when the replacement HDD has a smaller capacity than the original, or it could just be a problem with the Recovery Media.
Either way, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - most likely Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source.  To avoid possible errors, it's best to burn the ISO at the slowest possible speed.
    Windows 7 Images.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.
