How to i split audio clips? Imovie 11

I'm trying to split a voice over audio clip  I recorded in Quicktime and imported into my project. I can't find the precision editor nor can I select the clip and activate the split clip command under the Clip menu.  It's dim.  I cannot find out how to split it.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
I'm using iMovie 11.

Using iMovie 11 on Mac 10.8.3, when I right-click on a sound track, this is the menu I see:
No 'split clip'.

  • How do I lock Audio clip at playhead in iMovie

    Hi,
I have been using iMovie HD for years.  Great program.  Finally had to move on to iMovie 10.  What a total disaster that is.  I have a myriad of issues with it, as does everyone else, but right now I am trying to figure out how to lock an audio clip at the playhead, as one essentially needs to be able to do for even pretty simple home movie edits.  Am I being stupid or has this functionality been entirely removed by some genius Apple programmer?  Why do I get the feeling that what used to be a brilliant and intuitive piece of software has been  completely eviscerated to the point of uselessness?
    Any ideas?  Thanks
    Richard

No, it's not been removed. You just need to drag your audio clip to the right place.
In your case, you want to drag it directly to the timeline and not to the background music well below the timeline.

    1) Move a clip (or any portion thereof) from your Event clip to your project and place it where you need it.
    2) With the newly added clip still selected in your project, grasp and move the right and left handles to set the exact frames you wish to use as your "in" and "out" points.
    3) Select the "Spit" option to segment the selected area into what you want to keep and what you don't need.
    4) Select the segment(s) you don't want and press the "Delete" key to remove it/them from the project window.
    5) Repeat as needed to create your sequence of segments and then add titles and transitions as needed.
Note: Since your editing in iMovie '08 is non-linear, non-destructive, and "by-reference," you can source the same content multiple times to a single project or even to multiple projects and overlap your "splits" since they are "logical" rather than physical.

  • Cutting / Splitting Audio Clips, plus taking Fade OFF of audio clips

    Hi again all,
I wanted to know if it's possible to split audio clips in two in iMovie '08? I can't seem to find a way to do it, and I've been trying to edit audio in Amadeus and trying to import again, but it's getting too complicated.
Also--when two clips overlap, is it possible to take the Fade Off completely away, so that there is no fade at ALL? I tried playing with the ducking and fade sliders, but with no luck.
    Thanks in advance!
    --Melissa

    Melissa,
to remove audio fade-in/fade-off from audio or video clip, select the clip, press A, toggle fade-in and fade-out to manual and drag both sliders to 0:00
Here I'm just guessing what the actual name of the controls are in the english version of iMovie '08, mine is localized in italian.
As per splitting an audio clip, I don't know how to do either.

  • How to i trim audio in imovie 11

I just separated audio from an imovie clip, and now need to slice the audio in various places and and place back into the video. HOW DO I TRIM AUDIO in imovie 11. The old imovie was easy, I can't seem to find out how. Thanks.

There are several ways to do this.
First go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure the Advanced Tools are enabled.
The simplest way would be to select the frames of video in the Event that contain your audio and drag to the project. Drop it on the approximate frame (in the project) where you want it to start. A pop-up menu will appear: choose Audio Only.

  • How to Delete several Audio clips from Video clips on Timeline of APPro CS5

I  would like to know how to delete multiple audio clips from Video clips at once in time line in APPro CS5? Please advice step-by-step procedure. I can DELETE audio from a single Video clip. But I wanted to DEL Audio from multiple video clips. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the advice given by Shooternz, Colin and Jim. Your help is much appreciated for a beginner like me... Jim's idea was also good..It worked for me and also safe if I need to use the original audio. Following method also found good...but previous audio clip cannot be extracted after deleting it. ... 1. Hold down "ALT" key first then select the first audio clip in the chain of video clips to Delete. 2. Hold down " Shift + Alt " keys together and click right mouse button on all audio clips to be deleted one by one. Make sure only audio clips are selected. 3. Then release ALT+Shift keys and then click right mouse button and select "Clear" from pull down menu to Delete all selected audio clips on the time line. This method works very well for me. Thanks for every one who has adviced me how to do it. Thanks guys... If u all find better method tha above...please inform us. Thx.

  • How do I split a clip?

Today I downloaded the Final Cut X free trial and so far I like it! What I loved was the old iMovie and I've found almost everything I remember from the old iMovie. I haven't found "Split Clip At Playhead."  Let's say I have a 45-minute video clip of five people making speeches. I want to split the clip into five clips, one for each speaker. With the old iMovie I moved the playhead in between the first and second speakers and split the clip, moved the playhead between the second and third speakers and split that clip, etc. Then I just set the in and out points for each clip, move the five clips into the timeline, add transitions and titles, and I'm done. How do I do this in Final Cut Pro X?
What I'd really like would be a document called "Final Cut Pro X for iMovie 1-6 Fans." Maybe I'll write it. :-)

Is this because iMovie was a destructive editor, and Final Cut Pro X is non-destructive? So you do your edting in the timeline, not in the browser window? I guess that makes sense.

  • How to trim an audio clip in Aperture ?

    Hello,
I received your email regarding the change in the length of an audio clip (on the secondary runway) in a slideshow with Aperture.
You tell me to change the length of an audio clip on the main track, I have to change out of Aperture. My audio clip is in my iTunes library.
I am a beginner on Mac! How to access my iTunes library and get the "Info" menu of iTunes library in the Options menu?
    Regards
    Evelyne

Evelyne, you are referring to your previous question in this discussion, right?
How to reduce the length of an audio clip from the main track in a slideshow created with Aperture?
You tell me to change the length of an audio clip on the main track, I have to change out of Aperture. My audio clip is in my iTunes library.
If you want to shorten your audio file in the Main Audio Track, open iTunes (from the Dock, or from the Applications Folder, or from the LaunchPad).
    In iTunes
    select the song that you want to trim in the browser or in a playlist;
and open the "Info" panel (from the main menu bar: File > Get Info") or press the keyboard shortcut ⌘I.
Then select the "Options" tab in the panel and change the start and stop times and close the panel again by pressing the "ok" button.
    Quit iTunes.
    Restart Aperture.
In Aperture open your slideshow, click the iTunes icon to open the Media Browser and select the modified songs. Drag it to the TimeLine as background track.

  • How do you split video clips?

I want to split video clips so that they can begin when I want them to and end when I want as well. I'm new to the software and I don't really know how to do some things.

There's a lot of good info in your manuals. Always a good place to start. I'd also reccomend Tom Wolsky's (he's a regular contributor here) books.
Having said that, basically, take your clip and put it in the Viewer. In the Viewer, shuttle around till you find the piece you want .. set an In point where the shot should begin, set an End point where you want it to end. Now grab that shot in the Viewer and drag it over to the right; some little submenus will pop up, choose Overwrite and that puts it into the Timeline. You can also use F10 to overwrite the short to the Timeline.

  • How to get around audio clips' audio changes not working

Here is how I got around the annoying (and recurring) problem of audio clips not being adjustable. First, it's a good idea to add your music track as the very last thing you do. Often, when I am editing a video together, as soon as I drop in a full length music track, I'm no longer able to make changes to my audio clips. So now I drop in the music track as the very last thing I do to my project. If I want to test a music track in the file, then I drop it in, press Command G to preview my project, and when I'm done previewing the project with the music track, I immediately press Command Z to undo the addition of the music track. If, for whatever reason, I'm still having problems with audio clips no longer updating changes I make to them, I have discovered a trick that works: make the changes to the clip's audio, then copy the clip, then delete it, then paste it. The pasted version should now have the updated audio adjustments. Worked for me, anyway.

I am looking to record some audio clips directly into PP with my USB mic. I have successfully hooked up my usb mic through the PC control panel.
