Turn off Wifi in settings and then turn it on again; this will pause your device's update from updating.
To stop automatic updates of applications, go to settings, Itunes&appstore, scroll down to automatic downloads and turn off updates

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.

The First generation iPad cannot be updated past iOS 5.1.1
However you should be able to get the last compatible version of the iBooks App by tapping on the install button.

You can only access the Store of that country your account is registered for. Did you buy the apps using the same account? If you have a billing address registered in Australia, you can't buy in the US Store.

My dad got this iPhone for me a few months ago as a gift since I had a really awful phone before. The only thing is, I can't seem to upgrade it to the latest software without it telling me it's already updated to iOS 4 or something like that. (I would be able to give you the exact iOS version, but ever since connecting my iPhone to iTunes, my phone isn't responding so I can't check the settings or anything.) I can't download any apps (I get an error message saying the software on my phone is too old) and so I pretty much am extremely limited to what I can do on this phone. What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

He are some apps that are still compatible for iOS 4.2
> Pandora Radio (supports iOS 3 or better)
> Army of Darkness: Defense (support iOS 3 or better)

These are the apps that I know that supports iOS 4.2...... get these before the their next updates.
Some of these apps may be laggy but still playable.
BUT IF YOU DO UPGRADE TO BETTER IPOD...... I would get the iTouch 4g OR 5g because of iOS 6 and use of camera and better graphics.
