How to implement uplink redundancy and spanning tree in SFP-300 switches

We have several Small Business 300 Series Managed Switches, the 10/100 ones with PoE, the first generation ones.
We've been advised to implement uplink redundancy and spanning tree on these switches.
I'm sure spanning tree is a checkbox somewhere in the web interface.
How does one implement uplink redundancy besides interconnecting the switches plus turning on spanning tree (RSTP)??

CSS Bridging and Spanning-tree

Greetings:
I have a configuration where I have two CSS attached to two WS 3550 switches. I'd like to connect an interface from each VLAN on each CSS to both 3550 switches (see attached). I have a problem when both of the interfaces are active in a VLAN. The spanning tree breaks down (both CSS see themselves as the root and one of the 3550's becomes the root for the two 3550's). Additionally, I had a situation where the ISL link between the 3550's shut down due to excessive spanning-tree errors.
I looked into using unconditional bridging, but that would cause problems on the "outside" interfaces as we can't predict how the VLAN's will be configured on that side of the CSS. We actually have a split situation where layer-3 path forwarding decisions are preferable on hte outside and layer-2 path forwarding descisions are preferable inside.

Honestly, when I look at what you are doing, I feel you are making it overly redundant on the bridged side of things.
Why not simply connect each load balancer to only one switch rather than cross-connecting everything and then put a APP session between the load balancers?

Redundant connection, spanning tree protocoll

Between two buildings i want to establish a redundant network connection. If one of the connections fails, the other connection shall transport the network data automatically. There is a SRW2024 in every building. They are connected by a fibre-cable between the miniGBIC ports 24 of every switch. This combination exists two times.
In one building (Keller in the appended pdf-file) there is a rack with MPEG4 codecs. This rack has a built in unmanaged switch with two ports. This ports are patched to one port of the SRW2024.
In the other building (Pforte) there is a PC which receives the MPEG4 streams. It is connected to a fifth SRW2024 which receives the streams of the two connections on ports 1 and 2.
In my first try i have enabled the spanning tree protocoll in all 5 switches. The PC received the MPPEG4 streams. But when i disconnect one of the fibre connections the system comes to an unstable condition where the MPEG4 streams are interrupted sometimes and no network connection is possible.
Even if i reconnect the fibre, the system switches the streams off and on and was not stable.
Where is my fault, is it enough to configure only the fifth switch for spanning tree ?
It would be glad if anyone has an idea to solve the problem.

Hi Michael,
I have no experience with the series, but I see in the documentation that you can stack the switches. If you stack they, I think they will work as one logical one like a 3750 e.g. and you can use a Port-channel configuration.
If I`m wrong, we should take a close look to the STP config, to make sure which one will be the root and which ports are up to make the situations "controlled"

"Peer-switch" command on vPC domain and spanning-tree priority interaction

We have 2 N7K (N7KA and N7KB) which will be running vPC in hybird and pure vPC environment.
I have a question about the Hybird and pure vPC environment. With the "peer-switch" command enable, should i tune the spanning-tree priority to be the same for all the vlan running on vPC on both N7KA and N7KB? This way, when i enter the "sh spanning-tree vlan X(vPC vlan) detail" command on N7K, it will list both N7K announc itself as "We are the root of the spanning tree".Also the switch running spanning-tree with N7K vPC vlan (Hybird), will see both N7K has the same priority (4096), and it is not desirable for a spanning-tree environment. Therefore, i used the "spanning-tree pseudo-information" on N7KB to tune the spanning-tree priority to "8192" and the switch running spanning-tree with N7K will list N7KB has a priority of 8192(perfect).
However, I notice some strange "show" output on the switch running Port-channel with the N7KA and N7KB. The "Designated bridge" priority is flapping as show on the switch. It is constantly changing between "4096 and 8192" with the same vPC system wide mac address.
Entering the "sh spanning-tree vlan X detail" command repeatly on switch with port-channel toward N7KA and N7KB.

We have a issue similar to this in our environment. I am trying to upgrade the existing 3750 stack router with 2 Nexus 5596 running VPC between them. For the transition I have planned to create a channel between 3750 stack and 5596's. Once this environment is set, my plan is to migrate all the access switches to N5k.
The issue is when I connect the 3750 port channel to both N5Ks, all the Vlans on 3750 started to flap. If I connect the port channel to only one N5K everything is normal; but when I connect the port channel to both N5K running VPC, vlans are flapping. Any idea what is going wrong here? Am I missing something?

In my application I have created one region with one text box and one button.
On click of the button , first a javascript should run to validate the textbox value , if there is an error it should alert the user ,otherwise the insert process (I have written a PL/SQL block under processes in page processing) should get executed.

How to implement boolean comparison and event structure?

Hello all,
I'm currently developing an undergraduate lab in which a laptop sends out a voltage via USB-6008 to a circuit board with an op-amp, the voltage is amplified, and then sent back into the laptop. The student is going to have to determine an "unknown" voltage which will run in the background (they can do this by a step test, graph V_in vs V_out and extrapolate to the x-axis).
Currently, I have two loops that are independent in my VI. The first loop is used to "Set the zero." When 0 voltage (V_in) is sent out of the laptop it returns a value around -1.40V (V_out) typically. Thus, I created the first loop to average this value. The second loop, averages the V_out values that come into the laptop as the V_in numeric control changes. Then I take the "set zero" value from the first loop and subtract it from the second loop average to get as close to 0V for V_out when V_in is 0V.
The problem I'm facing is, the event structure waits for the V_in numeric control value change, but after "SET ZERO" is pressed, if there is an unknown value, it will not be added to the average for V_out until V_in is changed by the user. So, I tried implementing a comparison algorithm in the "[0] Timeout Case." This algorithm works for step tests with positive values for V_in, but there are two problems.
1) Negative values cannot be used for V_in
2) If a user uses increasing positive values for V_in there is no trouble, but if they try to go back to 0, the value change event has been called and it is added to V_out as well as the timeout case.
Sorry for the extremely long post, but I've been banging my head over this and can't figure out how to properly implement this. I'm using LabVIEW 8.0.

OK you have bigger problems than Raven's Fan is pointing out.
When the first event loop stops ( after pressing "") (the boolean text is "Set Zero") The second loop may start- (AND PROCESSES all of the events it was registered to process before the loop started!) that would enclude the value change event from "" (The boolean text is Stop) Being pressed bebore the loop started. Of course, since the labels of "Set Zero" and Stop are identical nulls....................................................BOTH event trigger at the same time and are processed as soon as the event loop they are registerd to is available.
Get it ... The two buttons labeled "" both queue Value change events to both loops registered to act on the value change of the control labled ""!
Both loops will do what you programmed in the case of "" Value Change! This can, (as you have observered) lead to confusing code actions.
Do avoid controls with duplicate labels (There is a VI Analizer test for that!) Do avoid multiple event structures in the same hierarchy.
DO NOT bring this to your studients to help you learn LabVIEW! We get enough studii asking embarassing questions

BC4J/UIX: How to implement session timeout and logout?

Hi,
I need to implement logout function in my UIX application. We use JAZN basic authentication. So several things need to be done when user clicks 'logout'
1. Any pending transaction is rolled-back.
2. App Module - what to do with it?
3. Browser closes or redirects to other page. Any attempts to go BACK will show either 'session expired' or will redirect to login page.
Also I need a mechanism where if user is idle for say, 10 minutes, that he/she will be automatically logout (maybe after some warning message). How to do this?

Well if you search long enough, you will find your own answers. After months of not having this solved, I found the solution, in a piece of sample code from oracle that is distro with the OC4J stuff.

This is the piece I was looking for, a way to kill off the SSO session. Now when I click logoff, the user is actually logged off the application and their HTTP session is killed off as well.

How to implement app integration and sso on nw04

I'm migrating several EP5 applications to the nw04 platform which integrate 3rd party applications via single sign on (SSO).
My first attempt was to follow the "Application Integrator" howto which provides an example par file that is supposed to integrate the yahoo email web site.
After uploading the example par file (which only consists of a portalapp.xml file) followed the steps and created a 'system' template and object. However when it came to mapping the alias my newly created system object did not appear in the drop down list...
I then tried to create a system object using an SAP par file "com.sap.portal.httpconnectivity.urlsystem"
that did appear in the dropdown list for the alias mapping.
Then I created an iView based on
"com.siemens.pct.eps.smv._._.parf.usermapping.Authenticator"
but on execution i got the error:
Could not connect to system yahoo_alias_01 with
URL
Please contact your system administrator
The last attempt was to create an iView based on
"com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap.Generic"
but on execution i got:
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
iView : N/A
Component Name : N/A
Unknown Logon Method & # 39;null& # 39; for system & # 39;yahoo_alias_01& # 39;.
I looked both in the system object and in the iview on how to specify the logon method...
Since integrating third party applications would seem a standard task - in a way as webservices are. I'm assuming that I'm missing something trival. Is the howto i used outdated ? I couldn't find anything more recent and on help.sap.com all i found on usermapping is how to prgramatically access mapped date - that did work.
Any pointers on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

as referred by Lashmi's url, if you follow step by step it is pretty straight forward (look at chapter 4.8) I have set-up both Yahoo (user mapping) and xMII systems (sso & user mapping)and it works perfectly fine. When creating an iView from par, using the appintegrator.sap, have you choosen Generic? This will sound redundant, but, have you done:
new Iview from par --> com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap --> Generic? (Am sure if you have com... sap.generic bit in your txt).
I did encounter similar errors, and this was due to the system definition and logon method being used. I used UIPDW logon method, but I amsure you already tried that.
The errors you are having are with yahoo and/or also with other systems?
What are the values in your system def? And in your iView?
I am not sure this will help you, but just wanted to clarify that yes, it is straight forward and should be working.

How to implement a SMS and WAP Gateway ?

Folks Hi !!
I'm a newbie at wireless Java, but I am interested to know how can I implement a gateway application/server that works both as an SMS and WAP gateway.
I've read some documents on Kannel(open source WAP gateway), but I am interested to know if there are any resources available that would be of help to implement one in Java (API for SMS, WAP etc).
The second question I have is:
Where do CIMD2, SMPP, UCP etc. come into Messaging picture ? Do they complement WAP for sending/receving SMS ?(pls excuse me, if I sound weird, I am trying to make sense of things :p )
I appreciate any help or suggestions to resources.

An SMS Gateway needs to communicate with the SMSC using some way or another. You have many options:
1- Connect a simple GSM phone to the serial port of your pc and use it to send and receive messages.
2- A GSM modem (like Nokia Premicell, Siemens M20..)
3- Connect directly to the SMSC.
If you choose the third option, then there must be a specific protocol to use to talk to the SMSC. Your SMSC might support one or more of these protocols:
1- SMPP (The good java api for this protocol is available http://opensmpp.logica.com)
2- UCP (see: http://www.cmg.com)
3- CIMD2 (see: http://www.nokia.com)

How to implement Quick Query and Saved Searches in ADF?

We are using 11gR2 ADF.
The requirement is to enable Quick Search and save the Searches.
In the Oracle ADF documentation, it is mentioned that
- Create a view with view criteria named.
- In the .jspx drag and drop the view criteria and Select Quick Query
Upon doing the above, we see that a Search panel is getting created, but with a message 'No Search Fields Added'.
In the named view criteria, Under 'UI Hints' we have set
-- execution mode as Both
-- Search region mode is Basic
-- Show Operators in Basic
Under 'Criteria Definition'
the attributes are added in a group with OR condition.

Here are my answers to your questions:
(1) Local classes: Do not use them.
- As long as your class is rather small (few attributes and methods), local classes are ok yet as soon as they become larger you will loose the overview
(2) Global classes: Do use them.
- Make use of global classes even if they are only used for your training. The big advantage over local classes is that you will get used to the classe builder (SE24) which has a plethora of functions.
(3) Executing global classes: Can be done if you have defined an OO-transaction.
- An OO-transaction has a class and one of its public methods as parameters (similar like report transactions). When you all the OO-transaction an instance of you class is created and the public method is called.
(4) Where and Why use ABAP Objects? Everywhere. Anytime.
- ABAP objects is about stability, maintainability and re-usability of coding. These developer aims can be much more fulfilled using ABAP OO means than in classical programming.

Metro link and Spanning tree problem

HI all,
We have 4 switches connected like the diagram given below.
What happens when link between mux to mux goes down mean any fiber cut in SP network our ethernet interface from switch 1 doesn't go down and for vlan 2 all data goes black holed.
bcos switch 1 interface connected to mux is getting keepalive from tejas mux and it remains up even if fiber goes down between both the mux's.
and if link doesn't go down than all the data from vlan 2 goes black holed
please help ASAP

Sorry, still not clear to me.
If STP does not unblock a port as a result of a failure between the mux and the provider network, it means that it keeps receiving BPDUs through the mux. That means that the mux is switching traffic for the corresponding vlan between the two switches, and that means that no way STP can unblock without creating a loop (which is not the desired effect I guess).
Now, when this link between the mux and the provider network fails, why do you lose connectivity? You have two links between the mux and the provider network and the vlan exists in the two mux. Does it mean that the link between the mux and the provider network only carry one vlan? If this is the case, can't you prevent the mux from switching traffic between the two switches for the given vlan.
You see that there are way too many "ifs" in what I've just written. We need to understand what the "muxes" are.
