How to import 1080i60 footage in FCE?

This is the continuation of a former question where I was wondering about the crappy results of exporting a sequence from FCE. Turns out that the problem occurs much earlier, during import.
So here it goes: I have a Sony CV550V camcorder recording in 1080i60 AVCHD. I use FCE Log and Transfer to import the footage. At this early stage ALREADY, I can see the fields offset with respect to one another in the Log and Transfer preview window. If I look at the footage by connecting my camcorder to my HD TV, I see no such artifact.
I looked at the FCE manual, tried all options of the Log and Transfer window (ZERO as far as I can see), but it does not seem that I have any choice on how FCE imports 1080i60 AVCHD footage. Am I doomed? I have heard from users of Sony Vegas software for instance, and they do not have such artifacts...
Thanks for your advice.

"Completely wrong" is a bit harsh, but indeed the whole issue is addressed in threadID=2497894 "How to export/convert FCE movies into AVCHD format?"

  • How to import .mpg files into FCE ?

I have succesfully installed the MPEG StreamClip & flip4mac into my iMac. So now I can both play wmv files on my iMac as well as importing wmv files into iMovie & FCE.
But now I have another problem:
    1) How do I play mpg files on my iMac ?
    2) How do I bring import mpg files into FCE ?
    Thank you.

QTPro gives you many more capabilities than the free player, but I don't think you need it to do anything you've described. You DO need the MPEG-2 Playback component. I'd start there, then see if you need any of the options provided by QTPro.
    Hi there,
I have purchased the MPEG-2 Playback component from the Apple Store.
I can now convert the mpg files to mov using the MPEG StreamClip.
However, I cannot playback the original mpg files using QuickTime Player. I can only playback the original mpg files if I click on the mpg file then goto more info & change open with MPEG StreamClip.
But how do I open with QuickTime MPEG-2 playback ? I do not even know where the OS installed the MPEG-2 Playback component to ?
    Thanks

  • How to import video footage shot at 24fps

I did a shoot for a student project a couple of days ago using a Panasonic DVX100. The camera operator set the speed for 24fps, saying it would look more like film, and used anamorphic sqeeze. When I import the footage, though, the person's movement is jumpy, and the audio doesn't seem to match completely. I used DV-NTSC 32KHZ Anamorphic Basic for the capture.
Can anyone make a suggestion for the correct settings for import?

More likely the audio should be 48K, and you don't use FireWire Basic with this camera. Anamorphic is correct.

  • How to import p2 footage

is there anyway to import p2 footage into elements 11?

    lilmanskBer
Is your P2 footage essentally MXF files? If so, no version of Premiere Elements supports MXF.
If this is the case, then you would have to convert the MXF into another format which would be compatible with Premiere Elements 11 or
whichever version you want to use.
If I have mistargeted your question, please give more details.
    Thank you.

  • How do I import t2i footage to FCE?

I shoot on a t2i and i use MPEG streamclip to convert into AIC at a .mov file but whenever i go to put the clip into the time line, rendering is always needed. Also, the audio will not be in sync.
i've sort of just had to deal with these problems for a while, but i've noticed a certain loss in quality and frame drops. I'm hoping there's some way to make this work for me. any ideas?

    rendering is always needed.
This usually indicates that your clip properties do not match your sequence settings.
The T2i shoots HD video as H.264 in either 1920x1080 or 1280x720 frame sizes, all in P or progressive mode.   If you shoot 1920x1080, make sure you shoot at 30fps.  If you shoot 1280x720 make sure you shoot at 60fps.  (In North America)
Then, in MPEG Streamclip, convert as follows:
    For 1920x1080p30, convert to QT/AIC 1920x1080i30  (interlaced)
    For 1280x720p60, convert to QT/AIC 1280x720p30
In FCE, you need to select an Easy Setup that has a frame size & frame rate that corresponds to your converted video.   Select one of the AVCHD AIC easy setups that matches your converted video.  (Do not select the HDV easy setups.)  Then create a new sequence.  Then place your clips in the new sequence.
Provided the codec, frame size & frame rate match, all should be well.

  • How to import mpeg2 footage to imovie08?

Get very excited when I get my new macbook, installed imovie 08 and try to create my first movie on the mac, but get stuck in the first step trying to import my HDV video capture clip (1080i in mpeg2 format). I previously captured all my video on xp machine using hdvsplit which generates many transport streams *.m2t files, then I used streamclip to convert to program streams *.mpg. These mpgs can be opend to apps like premiere elements or pinnacle studio without any problem, but when I try to import them in imovie 8, the import window simply grays out the mpg files and not let me select them. Interesting enough, I can open and view the mpg footage using quicktime, so the video self is good, just imovie cannot take it.
I checked all these mpg files using gspot and they report the format as MPEG-2 Program stream (1 vid, 1 aud). I further demuxed it into m2v video only, still imovie cannot let me select those m2v files. I know I can prob convert all my mpegs to quicktime mov files using streamclip, but it will take significant disk space (I have about 300GB mpeg2 HDV source)
for example, the following are what MPEGStreamclip show stream info tells me about my mpeg
    Stream: owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg
    Path: /test/video/owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg
    Type: MPEG program stream
    Duration: 0:00:21
    Data Size: 65.69 MB
    Bit Rate: 25.47 Mbps
    Video Tracks:
    224 MPEG-2, 1440 × 1080, 16:9, 29.97 fps, 8.00 Mbps, upper field first
    Audio Tracks:
    192 MP2 stereo, 48 kHz, 384 kbps
    Stream Files:
    owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg (65.69 MB)
final question.. also will final cut express import these mpeg2 movie footages?

I have personally used this trick, and worked flawlessly!!!
iM08 is prepared to import MPEG 2 "ONLY" directly from a connected camera. However, somebody, and I am not sure who, "Tricked" iM08 into believing that the MPEG2 files he had were inside the camera.
You will have to create a folder at root level in an external drive, or an flash USB drive named: mp_root, and inside this, a folder named 101PNV01.
I got to paste what I wrote in another thread:
With a USB flash memory drive, or an external hard drive, create on it a folder named MP_ROOT, inside it create a folder named 101PNV01, now put your mpg-2 files in this folder. Have iMovie open; after creating these files and putting the mpeg2's on it, disconnect the drive from your computer, now, when you re-connect, is like connecting a camera, and with iMovie open already, it will tell you that you have connected a camera etc, etc, now import into iMovie 08.
I use this to import mpeg 2's.
Remember to create this at the root level, at the very highest level in your external hard drive or USB. I do not use a USB stick because my files are very large, I use a external hard drive, so if one does not work for you, try the other one, if you have both.

  • Importing DVcam footage into FCE

Just got a sony DSR PD150 and want to make the most of shooting in 16:9 DVcam mode.
I assume that it should give better results than shooting in plain old DV mode.
What settings do I use in FCE to get this extra qualityness?
At the moment I am importing in "dv-pal 32khz anamorphic", but don't really see any special 'DVcam-ness'
    Am i missing something?

I assume that it should give better results than shooting in plain old DV mode
You assume incorrectly. Both DV and DVCam are the same codec: DV25. The only differences are tape speed and track pitch ... and DVCam does have locked audio while DV doesn't. The quality will be identical if shot in with the same camera/lens combination.
    There is no DVCam-ness.

I used the importcommand log and transfer.
I have three maps; DCIM (empty), MISC (AUTPRINT.MRK) and PRIVATE with a lot of files.
I tried all the maps (or files in it) to drag into L&transfer but that does not work.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. How to import avchd footage in FCE?
    Thanks!
    Bruce.

Read the section in the manual on log and transfer. Once again you can NOT drag and drop to the log and transfer window.
If the application is crashing you have more serious problems.
Do NOT go inside the folder structure of the SD card. Select the top level of the folder structure. If that crashes the application, you should take your computer to an Apple service technician.
I'm assuming the the operating system was correctly installed, and the application was correctly installed from the disc in the Applications folder.

  • Need help importing Hi8 footage into FCE4

    Hi all,
I have a Sony Digital 8 TRV310 camcorder. I'd like to be able to import the Sony footage directly into FCE 4 but am having trouble.
I've successfully imported Hi8 footage from the TRV310 into FCE 4 in the past (it's been a couple years) but for the life of me I cannot remember how I did it (it had something to do with Easy Setup and choosing 'device control = none' or something like that. I can't seem to find that option anymore and the only 'device control none' is 'DV-NTSC DV Converter' and that selection doesn't work for the import).
Here is the process that I am going through:
    1. I hook my Sony TRV310 up to my Mac Pro via a firewire 400 cable, turn the camera on and switch it to VTR (play) mode. I manually cue to the beginning of the footage I want to capture.
    2. Before attempting to import Sony footage into FCE 4 I go to 'easy setup' and dial in format=NTSC and use=DV-NTSC then click the setup button. I then go to file-->capture and a small window pops up indicating that capture is being initialized.
    3. The the 'capture window' pops up with preview screen indicating that 'preview has been disabled'
    4. I then hit the 'play' button in the capture window and then hit the 'capture now' button.
A black window with 'Final Cut Express and Apple logo' pops up for a few seconds, then a warning window pops up which states 'this operation could not be completed as there is no video'.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Dennis

    Sounds pretty close to me.
Try starting a NEW Project the the DV Converter option selected , you may not have initiated the DV Converter option.
Also there is no device control, so the Capture Now will not work, Start the camera manually and use the Escape key to stop capture.

  • Import Video Footage

I got myself a new HD video camera for Christmas but have been unable to figure out how to import the footage onto my Mac. When I plug it in it recognizes it as three external storage devices. I've been able to copy over the video files to my Mac but they have been in the .avi format. I've attempted to convert these files but every time they come out laggy or with the audio out of sync. Please help.

Please tell us the exact model of your camera,
the exact model of your computer,
    which version MacOSX you're using,
what video software and which version you're using, and
what cable you're using to connect the camera to the computer.
    Then we can begin.

how to import mp4v to FCE?

Download and innstall MPEG Streamclip (freeware) on your system.  Use that app to convert the MP4 files to QuickTime DV (not DV Stream) for standard definition footage, or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for high definition footage.
You can import the converted file(s) into an FCE project.

  • How do I capture tape-based media to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The manual says to import tape footage directly into fcpx, but then I lose my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

In FCP X How do I capture tape-based media (hdv clips)- which I want to import-to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The FCPX manual says to import tape footage directly into final cut, which works, but then I lose  my external hard drive    Do I  have to import it into an event, then copy it over to an external hard drive?  On Larry Jordan's tutorial, he has 3 external hard drives that show up on his monitor WHILE he imports his tape based media.  How is that done?  I can only get either the camera to appear OR my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Yes, the LaCie hard drive has 2 firewire ports-
I have always done what you suggest (works fine in FCP7), but in FCPX when I do that the camcorder icon
does not appear.  It only shows up when I DIRECTLY import the footage via firewire.  ????
