How to import analog audio into garage band

I have an iMac  with 2.5 GHz Intel Core 5i 8 GB memory OSX 10.7.5 and I am trying to import analog audio from a reel to reel tape deck so I can edit it and burn to a CD. I have a elgato video capture device with RCA female plugs on one side and USB on the other. (I've used this device to import analog video and audio to iMovie and Adobe Premiere Elements). I am told that I could import analog audio to Garage Band to edit and burn , however when I launch Garage Band I am not sure what part of the program I should be selecting and how to go about importing the analog audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to import midi files into garage band for ipad

I have the newest iPad and installed Garage Band.  I don't have a MAC computer, only Windows machines.  I want to use the iPad to send the midi files to a Roland 150 keyboard to make it play the music.  Is this even possible?  The Roland has Midi In and Out ports and I have the camera adapter kit and a Yamaha UX16 USB to Midi cable.

You cannot export midi files from GarageBand, sorry. You can only share audio files in aac-format or GarageBand project files, and both are not midi. See what is currently supported: http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.2/index.html#chsec12c387

  • How to import wav. files into garage band?

I've downloaded some samples for making electric music and they're all wav. files, but I don't know how I can import them into garageband "library" (probably where all the apple's loops are) can somebody please help me???

Which version of GarageBand are you using?
If you want to add samples to the Loop Library, you have to add the sample to a track, and then add it to the loop library. It will depend on your GarageBand version, how to do it:
    In GarageBand 10:  see http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.0/#gbndd0009b98
    In GarageBand '11 see: http://help.apple.com/garageband/index.html#gbnda12ebb99

  • Why can I not import aif files to garage band?

Once I have created an aiff file in iTunes, why can I not import those files into Garage Band?  I'd like to be able to edit some of those files.

I go to garage band and click on create a new project, then browse through the finder and files I want to import are all grayed out -- aiff AND wav files.
You first need to create a new project  - in the "new Project panel" select a template (Guitar, piano, ...), not "Open an existing file".
When the project window opens, drag your aiff or wav file onto an empty space in the Timeline, or open the Media Browser from the footer bar in GarageBand and import an aiff song from your iTunes Library.

  • How to import a music file into garage band ?

    Hello everyone,
I am new to Garage Band, pardon me if my question is too basic.
I am trying to record a vocal. But friend has sent me a music recording (mixture of guitar & piano, without vocal) in mp3 format.
I want to put this mp3 file in another track below the track that I am recording the vocal.
How do I import in this mp3 file into Garage band ?
    Thanks

drop the file into a blank area of the timeline
Thanks HangTime, a bit embarrassed here. How do I drop the file ?
U mean I open another window using FInder, select the file in Finder & then drop on the timeline ?
    Thanks, really appreciate your help.
    Cheers

  • Importing vinvl albums via garage band have to import tunes individually .tunes willnot recombine into one album. I understand that it is because data available on cd's is not present on vinyl..any clues on how to fix this?

    mac version 10.9.4.
importing vinyl albums via garage  band. Have to import tunes individually as tunes will not retain individusl otherwise.  trouble is they will not rejoin as one album in iTunes.I understand it is because data available on cd's is not on vinyl imports . Any clues on how to fix this?

"Have to import tunes individually as tunes will not retain individusl otherwise."  -- I don't understand this sentence.
iTunes will not assign track names to items imported from vinyl.  You will have to label the files yourself in the Get Info window.  As long as you give all the tracks on an album the same album information and the same artist information they should group together.  if the artists differ then you need to give all the tracks one common album artist (often "Various Artists")in addition to individual track artist.

  • How  to  record  from  mini  disc  player  into  garage  band  if  possible

I have some audio recorded material on a minidisc player/recorder which i would like to put into the computer to work on-can i put it into garage band 2 ? and if not is thier a free or not free software/programme i can download in order to record in quality what i have on the minidisc recorder. Also can you suggest any programmes/software (like cubase)which i could use to work on the sounds i have put onto the apple mac.

Again, mine doesn't have a USB port, so the only way to get sound on the disk is to record it through it's line in (optical or 1/8" trs). My mini disk player is old.
I think the new ones do have a mp3 import function (and a USB port or something similar)...don't know how it works though...I think that it just records them through it's line in though...
A mini disk is like a very small cd-r that is constantly record enabled (unless you switch the tab), like a tape casette. There is an algorythm that allows the minidisk to hold as much info as it does...that's where my confusion comes in about how it imports/exports.

  • How to input tapes from a DAT into garage band?

I have a Sony DAT recorder and I want to transfer my tapes into garage band. I tired using a stereo male to stereo male audio cable through the headphone jack on my mac and no sound can be detected by garage band. What type of cable/connector would I need to succesfully do this?

  • Can't Import Right Protected AAC songs into Garage Band

I have always been able to take a track from my iTunes library (whether the track was a purchased iTunes or one ripped from a CD) and bring into Garage Band to play with (I'm currently trying to make christmas ringtones for my Droid). All of a sudden, Garage Band is giving me an error code that I can't import songs that are right protected. I just imported (and saved as a ringtone) a song and now, 20 minutes later I can't do it. Does anyone have an answer for me? I appreciate any feedback.

It was never possible to import DRM protected songs from iTunes. The others were probably unprotected songs (which you can buy on iTunes too).

  • Cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

cannot import voice over from garage band into FCP-X

    Try:
Share > Send Song to iTunes. In the dialog, turn OFF compress. That will create an .aiff version of your GB project.
Alternately, you can Share to iTunes. When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Create AIFF version.
When iTunes opens, right click on the selection and select Show In Finder -> drag it out to a more convenient location (or option-click-drag to make a duplicate in the new location you drag to.)
    Import that file into FCPX.

    Alex,
have you tried everything in this thread? The problem seems to be different for everybody:
If nothing helps try dagon's full monty for a reinstall:

Or a manual download using the Terminal as mteep suggests:
