One of the most common questions on this forum. The Search feature would have resulted in lots of info.
Basically you need to convert the DVD's MPEG2 format to a video format FCE can work with, like DV or HDV
You can use software solutions like MPEG Streamclip or DVxDVD to do the conversion. MPEG Streamclip is free but you need to purchase Apple's MPEG Playback Component to make it work
If you have a DV cam with pass thru capabilities, you can also try hooking the DVD player to the cam via analog cable then hooking the cam to the puter via Firewire. You would then select FCE's DV Converter easy setup and use Capture Now
No matter which solution you use, you may experience some quality loss when you go back to DVD

Can someone tell me how to import a photo from my iPhoto library into Photo Shop Elements 11. When I am in Photo Shop Elements and I go to import the only option is to import from a camera. I want to import a photo from iPhoto. If I can't figure this out Photo Shop Elements is totally useless to me.

Not sure what you are trying to do
If you want to use PSE as an editor for iPhoto then set it in the iPhoto preferences (you need to search the forums for the exact settings - they are not obvious)
The general answer to yoru question is to import a photo form iPhoto to any other program is to select the photo in iPhoto and export to the desktop and import from there

I have FCP v.7 as a part of FCStudio
OK, this may seem like a stupid question for most of you but I haven't used FCP for years. I am trying to make and upload a 2 min video to the web and don't know how to turn it into a size of 100MB or less.
Yes, I realize that I have Compressor but it does not work on my computer for some reason. I think my laptop is too old for it or something.
It needs to be in one of these formats and I would like to use the highest quality. Suggestions needed for this also since this will be my first attempt at an uploaded video.
.MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .MPG, .3GP, 3G2, .QTL, OR .MP4

First, let me apologize for the way we were chatting on your thread while waiting.
Let me summerize what I think we have here:
1. You have a 2 minute show you want to convert to some codec appropriate for high quality presentation, but under 100MB final filesize.
2. You feel you don't want to use Compressor or a preset for YouTube.
3. You're in a hurry.
The fastest and highest quality method of making this conversion is using Compressor. It is designed to do precisely what you ask. The codec you want is H.264.
The YouTube preset is being suggested not because we think you're going to upload the clip to that site, but because the YouTube preset is a remarkably easy way to get a HQ H.264 clip with acceptable filesize. I'm staring at a 3:40 clip of 1080p that would knock your socks off and it's 90MB!
Even on a laptop the conversion is a matter of minutes.
If you're OK with my arguement, I'll write out a step-by-step proc for you and you can be done with this in time for that primetime show you want to watch. OK?

How to import a DVD

I want to import my paid for DVD's onto my computer just like you would import a cd to put on an ipod. The apple service guy said he could not tell me how because it is not in their software agreement at apple, so I'm hoping someone can help me. Basically, I'd like to burn the DVD's onto my ipod.

You should be aware that it is against US federal law to break the encryption used on the DVD. To import the DVD you must break the encryption. Therefore it is against the law to import a DVD to your hard drive. That is why the Apple "service guy" didn't give you more information.

I've got a band performance on DVD that I want to import and add a reworked soundtrack to (that I've done in GB).
I've loaded the DVD and it plays the DVD but I can't work out how to import what I'm seeing on the DVD into iMovie. I try to import but can't find the DVD "file".
Any ideas?

This isn't the best forum for your question Zoomman.
But if the DVD is protected, you might need something like Mac the Ripper and Hand brake (MtR to extract, HB to convert to QT files) to get the video you want off of the DVD.

How to import from DVD (VOB files)

I have PP CS4 version 4.2.1 and am using it on a Windows 7 - 64 bit machine. I have tried several different ways to import the VOB files in order to edit. I am able to view each of the VOB files in the Source Monitor, but I can't seem to put them together. That is, the video I want to edit is found on four of the VOB files.
I have also used AVS Video Converter 6 to rip the VOB files into one AVI file, but when I import the AVI file the video plays at what looks like about double speed and gets way out of sync with the audio.
I am a Premiere Pro newbie, but have lots of experience with Dreamweaver and creating websites. In fact, the final product will be a Flash video.
Any help will be appreciated.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
If you are running Lion:
From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

I just bought Final Cut Studio and I am trying to figure out how to import some video footage that I captured using ArcSoft's totalMedia software via a HD HomeRun High Definition TV decoder. I have verified that the video is being saved in MPEG-2 Transport Stream format but I've tried everything but still can't import it into Final Cut Pro. I've purchased the MPEG 2 Quicktime component but then realized that it doesn't work with Transport Streams. Then I downloaded MPEG StreamClip for Mac which does play the clips on a Mac but I need to obtain the codec so I can import them into Final Cut Pro. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated. Thanks. It is not clear that he has imported it as wmv or pdf, but the slideshow has to be imported in such a manner that it can still be edited (Captions, effects etc.)
Creating a wmv or pdf will not allow the same.
Any Ideas?

Have you tried simply dragging and dropping the actual audio file using Finder... into the arrange window? Make sure you drop it into either a blank space in the arrange area or onto an Audio track. When you drop the Audio file into a blank area, Logic will automtically create an Audio track for it...
This is how I normally do it without issue...
