How to import Casio ex f1 footage to CS5.5 (HD h.264) without jaggs

Hi,
I've been using Premiere CS3 for a while with a Casio Exilim EX F1 and have been very pleased with the results. Unfortunately I've now switched up to CS5.5 due to purchasing a new mac pro due to my old laptop being very tired.
I've tried importing the same footage into CS5.5 using the same settings as I used in CS3 but the footage now seems very 'jaggy' and much 'less clear' than previously.
To best describe it looks like; straight lines are now zigzagged and there are blocky fields of colour in 'abstract' areas of image (possibly an interlacing issue?)
The footage plays fine in QuickTime.
I have tried using various settings as well as re-exporting the footage through QuickTime 7 Pro but have had no success in getting results equivalent to those from CS3.
Are there settings that will work with the exilim EX F1 and CS5.5 as it stands or do I need additional codecs?
I am quick happy to re-encode the footage before import as I don't deal with masses of media if there is a suitable encoder and settings someone could recommend.
I am not a professional film maker and am using the software for community film projects with young people and occasional personal art projects.
If anyone can offer advice or a solution it would be greatly appreciated,
many thanks in advance,
Richard Dawson
NOTE: The exilm footage is HD: 1920 x 1080 (FHD HQ/ FHD Normal, 60 Fields per second) and 1280 x 720 (HD LP 30 fps) is a .MOV file with H.264 format

Hi John,
Many thanks for your prompt reply, very much appreciated.
This method of controlling the sequences settings is useful to know and made trying different options much easier.
I have tried importing some of the exilim footage using the sequence shown in the video but the results are the same, footage still 'jaggy' and 'messy'.
I'll keep trying different options but have tried various custom settings and none seem to solve the issue.
When I check the movie properties it says it is 'a referenceing movie' and I wondered if had some bearing on the issue.
once again many thanks for your help and if you can think of anything else please let me know,
cheers,
Richard

  • How to import a Flash Game in InDesign CS5 that will work?

    Hello,
I created a simple drag n' drop game in Flash (AS 2.0) and have imported the SWF file in InDesign CS5.
When testing it from InDesign Preview Panel, the game doesn't work properly (object drags but does not drop to target).
Is there a way to import the SWF game and include all its functionality when exporting the InDesign doc to SWF?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

MANY thanks to both of you for very helpful replies!
Weirdest thing (but nice): yesterday the cursor in InDesign was flickering so badly I could hardly tell where it was, much less which type of cursor it was, but today it seems to be fine!  I am unaware of anything I did that might account for the change.  I rebooted, but I'd done that a couple of times before since upgrading to Mountain Lion, just in case, so I don't know why it's working, now, or whether it'll go back again to flickering.  But I'm hoping for the best.  I'm keeping your suggestions saved in case it recurs.
    Thanks again!

  • How To Import .THM Files Into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello:
I just purchased a Canon Vixia HFM50.  When I use the presets, there is support for the AVCHD format.  The file extension for the AVCHD format from the Canon is *.THM.  Yet, that file type is not recognized.  How do I import it?
    Regards,
    Rich Locus

    Hi Rich Locus,
Thanks for your post.  THM is an image file format for thumbnails. Images are made smaller for browsing purposes, usually because it is easier to view and takes less time to load.
THM files can be viewed by most image preview or editing programs on both Macs and PCs. THM files are similar to .JPEG files, and those .
THM files representing image files can usually be converted to JPEG format by changing the name of the file from .THM to .JPEG or .JPG.
THM files can also be used by videos. When extracting a video file from a camcorder, a thumbnail will be created to represent the video, usually taken from the video’s first frame.
The .THM file will then have the same name as the .AVI file that it represents. With Canon-created video files, the .THM file also contains the metadata for the video, and therefore needs to remain with and have the same name as the .AVI file. Please update if changing the extension of the file works.

  • How to import 1080i60 footage in FCE?

This is the continuation of a former question where I was wondering about the crappy results of exporting a sequence from FCE. Turns out that the problem occurs much earlier, during import.
So here it goes: I have a Sony CV550V camcorder recording in 1080i60 AVCHD. I use FCE Log and Transfer to import the footage. At this early stage ALREADY, I can see the fields offset with respect to one another in the Log and Transfer preview window. If I look at the footage by connecting my camcorder to my HD TV, I see no such artifact.
I looked at the FCE manual, tried all options of the Log and Transfer window (ZERO as far as I can see), but it does not seem that I have any choice on how FCE imports 1080i60 AVCHD footage. Am I doomed? I have heard from users of Sony Vegas software for instance, and they do not have such artifacts...
    Thanks for your advice.

"Completely wrong" is a bit harsh, but indeed the whole issue is addressed in threadID=2497894 "How to export/convert FCE movies into AVCHD format?"

  • How to import mpeg2 footage to imovie08?

Get very excited when I get my new macbook, installed imovie 08 and try to create my first movie on the mac, but get stuck in the first step trying to import my HDV video capture clip (1080i in mpeg2 format). I previously captured all my video on xp machine using hdvsplit which generates many transport streams *.m2t files, then I used streamclip to convert to program streams *.mpg. These mpgs can be opend to apps like premiere elements or pinnacle studio without any problem, but when I try to import them in imovie 8, the import window simply grays out the mpg files and not let me select them. Interesting enough, I can open and view the mpg footage using quicktime, so the video self is good, just imovie cannot take it.
I checked all these mpg files using gspot and they report the format as MPEG-2 Program stream (1 vid, 1 aud). I further demuxed it into m2v video only, still imovie cannot let me select those m2v files. I know I can prob convert all my mpegs to quicktime mov files using streamclip, but it will take significant disk space (I have about 300GB mpeg2 HDV source)
for example, the following are what MPEGStreamclip show stream info tells me about my mpeg
    Stream: owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg
    Path: /test/video/owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg
    Type: MPEG program stream
    Duration: 0:00:21
    Data Size: 65.69 MB
    Bit Rate: 25.47 Mbps
    Video Tracks:
    224 MPEG-2, 1440 × 1080, 16:9, 29.97 fps, 8.00 Mbps, upper field first
    Audio Tracks:
    192 MP2 stereo, 48 kHz, 384 kbps
    Stream Files:
    owen-200608_19-06_5711.mpg (65.69 MB)
final question.. also will final cut express import these mpeg2 movie footages?
    Message was edited by: twinle

I have personally used this trick, and worked flawlessly!!!
iM08 is prepared to import MPEG 2 "ONLY" directly from a connected camera. However, somebody, and I am not sure who, "Tricked" iM08 into believing that the MPEG2 files he had were inside the camera.
You will have to create a folder at root level in an external drive, or an flash USB drive named: mp_root, and inside this, a folder named 101PNV01.
I got to paste what I wrote in another thread:
With a USB flash memory drive, or an external hard drive, create on it a folder named MP_ROOT, inside it create a folder named 101PNV01, now put your mpg-2 files in this folder. Have iMovie open; after creating these files and putting the mpeg2's on it, disconnect the drive from your computer, now, when you re-connect, is like connecting a camera, and with iMovie open already, it will tell you that you have connected a camera etc, etc, now import into iMovie 08.
I use this to import mpeg 2's.
Remember to create this at the root level, at the very highest level in your external hard drive or USB. I do not use a USB stick because my files are very large, I use a external hard drive, so if one does not work for you, try the other one, if you have both.
This is one of the threads were I read this advise:

  • How to import MXF files to Final Cut Pro with smooth editing

Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To
help those who wanna edit MXF files in FCP without problems, here I
share with you a simple guide on how to convert MXF files to edit in
Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes
MOV for FCP 6/7/X under Mac OS. Once the MXF to ProRes 422 conversion
is done, you can transfer MXF footage into Final Cut Pro (X) for editing
    smoothly on Mac with ease.

  • How to import from desktop (file) avchd in FCE4.0.1

I copied from a camera onto my macbook avchd footage for later use in FCE4.
I used the importcommand log and transfer.
I have three maps; DCIM (empty), MISC (AUTPRINT.MRK) and PRIVATE with a lot of files.
I tried all the maps (or files in it) to drag into L&transfer but that does not work.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. How to import avchd footage in FCE?
    Thanks!
    Bruce.

Read the section in the manual on log and transfer. Once again you can NOT drag and drop to the log and transfer window.
If the application is crashing you have more serious problems.
Do NOT go inside the folder structure of the SD card. Select the top level of the folder structure. If that crashes the application, you should take your computer to an Apple service technician.
I'm assuming the the operating system was correctly installed, and the application was correctly installed from the disc in the Applications folder.

  • How to import clips from iPhoto

    Hi
is there a way to bring in short avi clips from my iPhoto library to iMovie?
I am using drag & drop as a work around, which is fine, but would be nice not to have to open iPhoto.
    Steve.

Hi Adam, thanks for your reply.
Issues of quality aside, yeah. I have some short .avi movie clips that were shot on my Casio Exlim stills camera. Since iPhoto 5 (I think) the import and management of the clips is dealt with automatically through iPhoto just as if they were stills (albums, keywords etc) and are viewed/edited externally via QT.
Unless I am missing something obvious, I cannot see how to import a clip from the iPhoto library via the iMovie interface as you do with regular stills?
If I have iPhoto open alongside iMovie and drag clip thumbnails from the library to iMovie's clip 'wells' the import runs as expected.
    Cheers, Steve.

  • How to import mp4v to FCE

how to import mp4v to FCE?

Download and innstall MPEG Streamclip (freeware) on your system.  Use that app to convert the MP4 files to QuickTime DV (not DV Stream) for standard definition footage, or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for high definition footage.
You can import the converted file(s) into an FCE project.

  • How to Import a MPEG-3-ts (Transport Stream) into Final Cut Pro ?

    Hello All;
I just bought Final Cut Studio and I am trying to figure out how to import some video footage that I captured using ArcSoft's totalMedia software via a HD HomeRun High Definition TV decoder. I have verified that the video is being saved in MPEG-2 Transport Stream format but I've tried everything but still can't import it into Final Cut Pro. I've purchased the MPEG 2 Quicktime component but then realized that it doesn't work with Transport Streams. Then I downloaded MPEG StreamClip for Mac which does play the clips on a Mac but I need to obtain the codec so I can import them into Final Cut Pro. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated. Thanks. Tim

    I do:
"You need to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to an editable format, such as those found in Final Cut Pro's Easy Setup menu.
For HD, your best choice is ProRes, DVCPro HD or Apple Intermediate Codec."
    And so does Nick.

  • How to import avchd in imovie

How to import 1080P AVCHD content in Imovie 11 ?

Situation 1 Does iMovie 10 for Mac support AVCHD files?
Though the new iMovie 10.0 for Mac OS X Mavericks/Yosemite claims the native support for AVCHD, its support for AVCHD is just the same as iMovie 11: iMovie can import and edit native AVCHD in 1080i 50/60, 720p 24/25/30, 1080p 24/25/30, but iMovie does not support AVCHD 1080p 50/60 or 720p 60.
That is, you will still fail to import AVCHD to iMovie 10/11/09/08/HD if the AVCHD footage recorded at 1080/60p, 1080/50p or 720/60p with whatever model of cameras or camcorders like Panasonic Lumix DMC, Panasonic HDC series, Canon XA20, Pana TZ7, Sony Alpha DSLR(SLT) Cameras, Sony HDR-PJ790 and etc.
Situation 2 Can iMovie for iOS iPad, iPhone or iPod import AVCHD?
The short answer is no. Normally, iMovie for iPad, iPhone or iPad only works with the video files recorded by the iOS devices in MP4, MOV or M4V format. And iMovie for iOS will not import AVCHD footages recorded with other cameras or camcorders.
In order to successfully import all kinds of AVCHD to iMovie for Mac or iOS, a recommended solution is convert AVCHD to iMovie more supported video format.
Hope it will help you more or less.
