How to import from iPhoto to Lightroom

I am a beginner--just downloaded trial of Lightroom and can't figure out how to import my photos from iPhoto.  Any help would be appreciated....thanks!

To simply import the original files is quite a simple process.
Locate the iPhoto Library (default is your Pictures Folder). Right click on it and select "Show Package Contents".
Locate the Masters folder and drag it onto the Lightroom icon or an open Library window. This will invoke the Import command.
Be sure "Include Subfolders" is checked.
Now you can import all the original files.
If your goal is to maintain structure of the Events it gets a little more tedious. Drag the event onto the Lightroom icon or the Library window. Once imported you can group them into a Collection Name that mimics the Event.
Repeat with other events.
With the impending demise of iPhoto and Aperture, I suspect Apple may be working with Adobe to develop an automated process that will also maintain metadata that was added in those programs. If you can wait a while, it may be worth it.

I am new to Lightroom, trying the trial version now (previous Aperture user).  I'm on a new iMac.  How do I import photos from iPhoto to Lightroom for editing?
    Thanks.

Lightroom isn't designed to be a standalone editor.  Like iPhoto, it wants to manage all of its photos in a library (catalog).  To import your iPhoto photos into LR, see this article: Ready to move on from Aperture or iPhoto? | The Lightroom Queen.

    Questions:
    1. I can't find the folder listed on my external hd for iPhoto. (When I choose "add" and I want all photos imported from iPhoto which are 44,000+)
    2.  Which are best settings?  File Settings, previews, etc.  I would like to save photos by albums, folders, events, tags.  Is that possible?
    3.  I can't find any how to's on this.
I am using Yosemite on iMac desktop (all software is updated).  I will be using my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 as well to sync.  I just got Creative Cloud but surely will need to increase the size.

  • Import from iPhoto to Lightroom

Please Help I have downloaded Lightroom and imported all my iphoto's (leaving them in the iphoto folder - Referenced) the issue is I seem to have a load of duplicates and the more I try to understand the file structure of iphoto the more i get confused in some cases it seems to hold 3 copy's of the same photo !!!!
I am now wondering would it be better to have a new folder (copy) for LR which over time will be the main one.
Any help understanding the best way to setup/ understand how iphoto works would be appreciated.

    hello Andrew Jenkins,
I had the same problem. Iphoto makes two directories, one originals and one modified. If you have collections on screen in Iphote, the source will be partly from modified, but also from original. So if you import modified into lightroom, you will miss the files you did not touch, the unmodified. If you import originals in you will miss al the chages, but get all the files.
I could not think out a solution for this transport-problem but tough working. I decided to import the originals and work through everything again.
If yoy take the solution from Mr Wilkie you have to import from the modified directory, but you will miss the files you did not change.
    kind regards,

  • How do import from iphoto backup disk

My wife cleaned out her iPhoto library the wrong way. She deleted from the albums and said photos are still in the photo library. I made disk backups from Share/Burn for her current albums. I started a new library but can’t fine how to import them back with the same  albums she had them set up as. I can import as Event names only.
    Any Idea?

You can do this from within iMovie.  In the content library at bottom left of the iMovie window there should be an iPhoto icon.  if you click on it you can select the pics you want.

  • How to import from iPhoto - Aperture

With the fantastic guidance I got yesterday and valuable tips I have been playing around with Aperture and have decided to use Aperture instead of iPhoto.
So, I'll now be bothering you with my never ending string of questions so here we start.
I imported around 16,000 photos from iPhoto and can see there are loads of duplicates. I believe that most of them (if not all) are actually the manipulated ones (i.e. contrast change etc) and I don't want to keep these. How can I delete all the "non" originals in Aperture and only keep the originals? I don't have patience to do this individually... I'm going to start all over enhancing those photos that needs enhancing at a later date and iPhoto's enhancement are not that good anyway.
    Anyone knows?

When you imported the Library the edited versions were automatically keyworded: iPhoto Edited (or iPhoto Modified), so you can quickly find them with a Smart Album and delete them.

  • How to import from iPhoto 2 to iPhoto 5

    Hi all,
I wish to import my iPhoto 2 library to my other mac which has iPhoto 5. Is it as simply as moving my iPhoto 2 library folder to my other macs Pictures folder? Are there any issues I should be aware of?
    Thanks

What kind of a merge? Do you just want to import the images or do you want to keep keywords, albums, comments etc.
Importing the images is pretty quick and straightforward. Keeping the albums and metadata is harder and I don't know about merging a version 2 with a version 5 library. Of course you can upgrade the version 2 to version 5 then do the merge with a program called iPhoto Library Manager.
    iPhoto Library Manager
    iPhoto Library Manager documentation
there is also some kind of a disk image method that was posted recently in the forums. I have not tried any of the methods as I only have one library.
How many images are in the version 2 library?
Are there any images in the version 2 that are in the version 5 library?

  • Lightroom: Capture time for videos imported from iphoto is not showing in metadata

Hi, I imported all my photos and videos from iphoto to Lightroom recently using the iphoto import plugin.  I think all my photos were imported but I noticed that all my videos have no capture time, so they became grouped together in my collections.  But I think I can still see their capture time in the "grey text" in each photo.  Why did this happen and how do I resolve this issue?  I really want my capture times to be in the video metadata and also want to see my videos in the right chronological order with my videos.   Strangely, videos imported into Lightroom directly from my camera SD card do not have this issue, only the ones imported from iphoto do.  Thanks!

LR does not properly handle video metadata in general, and in particular it often botches capture time.  Sometimes this works:  Select one video, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and then click Change All (without actually changing Corrected Time).  If that sets the capture time to the correct time, then you can select all the problem videos, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and click Change All.   If you have a small number of videos, you can manually correct the capture time using Edit Capture Time.
Please see this thread in the official Adobe feedback forum for more details, vote on it, and add your opinion: Lightroom: Metadata applied to videos in Lightroom isn't available in other applications

  • Does anyone know how to take photos from IPHOTO into Lightroom?

does anyone know how to take photos from IPHOTO into Lightroom?

Because Apple has dropped "Aperture" and is switching users away from "iPhoto" to a new photo application called "Photo" so that they are more fully integrated with the Yosemite 10 and the iOS 8.3 going forward there are some instructions how to import photos into Lightroom without losing to much metadata or other information. Go under Lightroom help and follow he instructions.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • RAW JPEG PROBLEM  I'm new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

I’m new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW+JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

How did you import from iPhoto? If you saw the Import panel with raw -jpeg pairs, then you probably did not import your iPhoto library as library, but as files, and then you will see plenty of duplicates - previews, thumbnails, originls, edited versions. If that should be the case, it would be better to delete the import from iPhoto and to import your iPhoto library again, but this time using "File > Import > Library".
Only that would require compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture.  What are your Aperture and iPhoto version numbers?

  • How do I migrate photos from iPhoto into Lightroom 5?

Okay. I've got all my photos organised in iPhoto, but I've seen the writing on the wall about Apple discontinuing iPhoto.
So I've taken out a subscription for Creative Cloud 2014 including Photoshop & Lightroom 5.
My question is:- How do I migrate all my photos including organising them into Events / Collections from iPhoto to Lightroom 5?
I've seen a tutorial that recommended downloading a free trial of Photoshop Elements 12 to use that as a sort of 'missing link' between the two apps, but it didn't work in that it didn't keep my photos organised in Events / Collections. I just ended up with a load of esoterically generically named folders which made no sense.
Surely there must be a way, shouldn't there?

Have you tried some of the online articles?

  • How to Import from an external HD to LightRoom.

I am brand new to Creative Cloud and to LightRoom. I have read and listened to importing from a memory card but am unsure as to how to import from the backup drive from my older Mac Pro to my new iMac. The external drive is already the backup for the new iMac, is plugged in and working. I can see the HDD in the LR panel and can find the "pictures" folder within the dropdown. I am not sure if the "pictures folder (on the lefthand panel) is the old b/u or the iMac HDD. I can get to where I need to be if I can figure out what I'm looking at and what I should look for as to the 2 HDD's, b/u and/or iMac. I am aware of the righthand panel but the interactions are totally unfamiliar to me. Thanks for any help and advice. TCrowe

If you are importing from a hard drive then you don't need to worry about the right-hand panel in the import dialog. You would locate the folder that you want to import in the left-hand panel. At the top of the import screen you would choose the "Add" option. This will add those images to your catalog without having to move them anywhere. If you want to place copies on a different hard drive then you would choose the Copy option at the top of the import screen. Then the right-hand panel will enable you to specify where you want the copies to be placed.
