How to import from Oracle to ODI View query definition?
The scenario:
I have a View in Oracle database with name 'XV'.
When I loaded metadata from this Oracle database the 'XV' structure was imported too.
Is it possible to get in ODI the 'XV' query definition in format 'CREATE VIEW ... ' or 'SELECT * FROM'?
Thanks a lot for answers.
Still cannot connect.
The Administration Tool help suggests the tnsnames.ora is not required:
"For Oracle Database data sources, the data source name is either a *full connect string* or a net service name from the tnsnames.ora file. If you enter a net service name, you must ensure that you have set up a tnsnames.ora file within the Oracle Business Intelligence environment, in ORACLE_HOME/network/admin".
I've tried the tnsnames.ora route, but this still does not work. I created a tnsnames.ora file in <MW_HOME>\Oracle_BI1\network\admin. Is this correct?
I'm assuming that I don't need an Oracle client install on the same (Windows) PC that I've got Oracle BI 11g installed on. Is this correct?

How to Import from an external HD to LightRoom.
I am brand new to Creative Cloud and to LightRoom. I have read and listened to importing from a memory card but am unsure as to how to import from the backup drive from my older Mac Pro to my new iMac. The external drive is already the backup for the new iMac, is plugged in and working. I can see the HDD in the LR panel and can find the "pictures" folder within the dropdown. I am not sure if the "pictures folder (on the lefthand panel) is the old b/u or the iMac HDD. I can get to where I need to be if I can figure out what I'm looking at and what I should look for as to the 2 HDD's, b/u and/or iMac. I am aware of the righthand panel but the interactions are totally unfamiliar to me. Thanks for any help and advice. TCrowe
If you are importing from a hard drive then you don't need to worry about the right-hand panel in the import dialog. You would locate the folder that you want to import in the left-hand panel. At the top of the import screen you would choose the "Add" option. This will add those images to your catalog without having to move them anywhere. If you want to place copies on a different hard drive then you would choose the Copy option at the top of the import screen. Then the right-hand panel will enable you to specify where you want the copies to be placed.

Question
After "upgrading" to new firefox none of my bookmarks are in new bookmarks help topics tell me how to import from another browser but not from previous version of firefox. Another problem is my anti virus ( most up to date) is apparently not compatible with 4.0 liked the old firefox would never have "upgraded" had I known my anti virus wouldn't work. Can I get old version backCheck with Kaspersky as to what versions of Firefox their programs are compatible with. It is up to Kaspersky to keep their stuff up to date as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox. And if they are unwilling or incapable of doing it, they should inform their customers of such and maybe refund their customers instead of stringing them along.

Ideas on how to export from Oracle (11g) for import into a MSSQL server?
Hi folks,
Crazy question yes...but I have some devs that are needing to export some schemas/tables from Oracle to somehow import into MSSQL.
Are there any utilities our there, hopefully from Oracle that would allow for this? So far, all I can think of are to generate the DDL from the Oracle instance, and then do some scripts to output the data in a cvs type format....
Anything better than this?
Any links or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

Senior Oracle DBAThank you for the prompt reply. I'm looking into this and am finding some Oracle documentation, but just off the top of my head, this approach seems to assume the 2 database servers can see or talk to each other.
What if the oracle box is on one network...that cannot connect to the network that the MSSQL box is on. For example..running off some test data from one company to another company with networks that do not cross?Assuming some acceptable export/import utility, how do you plan on getting the file from the source to the target if the two servers are on networks that cannot talk to each other?Well, I'm still trying to gather facts, this is just a question coming in from some developers.
From what it may be, is that the can scp from site to site, but no direct connectivity between the database servers on the sites...isolated, maybe a DMZ...I dunno everything yet.Well, you either have connectivity between the two machines or you don't. Binary decision tree.
IF net_connectivity_exists
you can use oracle sqlnet enabled capabilities
OR
you can transfer an export file via ftp, sftp, scp, etc.
ELSE
you have to transfer an export file via sneakernet

How do import from iphoto backup disk
My wife cleaned out her iPhoto library the wrong way. She deleted from the albums and said photos are still in the photo library. I made disk backups from Share/Burn for her current albums. I started a new library but can’t fine how to import them back with the same albums she had them set up as. I can import as Event names only.
Any Idea? You can do this from within iMovie. In the content library at bottom left of the iMovie window there should be an iPhoto icon. if you click on it you can select the pics you want.

How to import from desktop (file) avchd in FCE4.0.1
I copied from a camera onto my macbook avchd footage for later use in FCE4.
I used the importcommand log and transfer.
I have three maps; DCIM (empty), MISC (AUTPRINT.MRK) and PRIVATE with a lot of files.
I tried all the maps (or files in it) to drag into L&transfer but that does not work.
I am sure I am doing something wrong. How to import avchd footage in FCE?
Thanks!
Bruce.Read the section in the manual on log and transfer. Once again you can NOT drag and drop to the log and transfer window.
If the application is crashing you have more serious problems.
Do NOT go inside the folder structure of the SD card. Select the top level of the folder structure. If that crashes the application, you should take your computer to an Apple service technician.
I'm assuming the the operating system was correctly installed, and the application was correctly installed from the disc in the Applications folder. -
How to connect from Oracle 11g to SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi,
Is it possible to connect from Oracle 11g on AIX to SQL Server 2008 R2? If so, what is the preferred method?
SQL Server has the original table. From Oracle 11g, we want to access data which is in SQL Server real time.
Thank You
SarayuHi,
Have a look at these Oracle notes for the full information on the gateways -
Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products (Doc ID 1083703.1)
Functional Differences Between DG4ODBC and Specific Database Gateways (Doc ID 252364.1)
Gateway and Generic Connectivity Licensing Considerations (Doc ID 232482.1)
How to Setup DG4MSQL (Oracle Database Gateway for MS SQL Server) 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX,HP-UX) (Doc ID 562509.1)
How to Configure DG4ODBC on 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX Itanium) to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install (Doc ID 561033.1)
The Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) needs a separate license but the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) is included in your RDBMS license. You only need to provide the third party ODBC driver needed by DG4ODBC.

How to import from old address book?
Hi all, I've searched the net about my problem but with no result.
I have an old mac (a G3 iMac running 10.3.9) with a lot of contacts on its Address Book, and I do mean a lot. The computer is completely dead, but I have a copy of the contents of its internal hard disk on a new mac running Lion. My problem is importing the old contacts into the new Address Book. The file formats have changed and the old files can't be imported into the new application, they are not even recognized as addressbook files. Obviously I can't export from the old system since it's not running. The old AddressBook.data file is a terrible junk of names, addresses, telephone numbers and everything else organized in an incomprehensible way (I can't just manually copy the addresses from the file). Does anyone know how to import those contacts into the new format? Otherwise, I'll have to find somebody who owns an old system with an old Address Book application so that I can export the files from there. Thanks a lotAs it's been 3 months, you probably have resolved this by now, but I had a similar problem today and resolved it with help from a tech at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store.
If you ever backed up your "Library" folder from your old Mac, it contains the "Application Support" folder which in turn contains the "Address Book" folder.
On your new iMac, running Lion:
1)open Finder
2)select "Go" on the menu
3)with the "Go" window open, press and hold down the "Option" key on your keybord. Doing this will expose the hidden "Library" folder.
4) in the Library folder you will find "Application Support"
5) in the "Application Support" folder, you will find the "Address Book" folder
6) assuming you have the old "Address Book" folder from within the backed-up "Library Folder" from you old iMac, delete the "Address Book" folder on your new iMac and copy your old backed-up Address Book folder to the "Application Support" folder in its place.
7) Open the Address Book application and you should see your contact records.
I just finished doing this and it worked for me.

Datapump Network Import from Oracle 10.2.0 to 10.1.0
I have self-developed table bulk copy system based on dmbs_datapump API. It is pretty stable and worked very well for a long time on many servers with oracle 10.1.0. But some days ago we have installed new oracle server with oracle 10.2.0 and have noticed, that our system can't copy tables from new server to another servers. After some time of debugging we got description for our situation... dbms_datapump.open() call is failing with "ORA-39006: internal error" exception. dmbs_dapatump.get_status() returns more detailed description: "ORA-39022: Database version 10.2.0.1.0 is not supported."... We're really disappointed... what we can do to use dbms_datapump.open on 10.1.0 to copy table from 10.2.0?
P.S. We have tried to use different values (COMPATIBLE, LATEST, 10.0.0, 10.1.0) for version parameter of open()... but without luck...
Please, help, because we can't upgrade such many old servers to 10.2.0 and we really need to use this new server...
Thanks in advance,
Alexey KovyrinHello,
Your problem is about the Character Set.
WE8ISO8859P1 stores character in *1* byte but AL32UTF8 (Unicode) uses up to *4* bytes.
So, when you Import from WE8ISO8859P1 to AL32UTF8 you may have the offending error ORA-12899.
To solve it, you may change the option of the Datatype of your column. And choose the option CHAR
instead of BYTE (the default), for instance:
VARCHAR2 (100) --> VARCHAR2(100 CHAR)Then, you could import the data.
You may also change the parameter NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS to CHAR.
alter system set nls_length_semantics=char scope=spfile; Then, restart your database.
NB: Although the parameter nls_length_semantics is dynamic you have to restart the database so
that it's taken into account.
Then, you create the Tables (empty) and afterwards you run your Import.
Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

Importing from Oracle Designer
Hi, I am looking to migrate from Oracle Designer. We have 2k plus objects in a enterprise model supporting multiple applications. When following the dialogs to import into DM 3.1, I connect to the repository fine but when I select our Logical application system, I am not seeing all our entities. What is the basis for selecting entities to present? Do they need to be checked in? We have some that are not yet versioned that do not show up and I can see them not being there but others that are versioned do not show up. I think most of these are checked out but I see some that are checked out as well. Any ideas, thks.
Edited by: 930485 on Apr 26, 2012 7:50 AMYes they need to be checked in if they are versioned.
