How to import images into Lightroom

Good afternoon [Edit]
I have all of my photographs backed up on a Westeren Digital hard drive. It is called "My Book K" How can I get that into LR so I can imoport, or export from LR?  Also is it hard on my external hard drive to leave it on all the time?

Hi Kenny,
You have to import the photos on the Western Digital hard drive in Lightroom.
Open Lr, go to Library and Grid View, and then click on the  <Import> button - lower left.
This will open the Import Dialog. On the left side you will see the <Source> panel. It lists your drives and folders. Select your Western Digital and in it the folder you want to import from.
Then at the top center of the Import Dialog select <Add>. This will import the photos in Lightroom but will leave them on the hard drive where they currently are.
Then click on the <Import> button - lower right.
If you want to work in Lightroom on the photos that are on the external drive, it has to be <on> - obviously. But when you are not working in Lr you can switch it off. It is not "hard' on the drive to leave it on but it has spinning disks that can wear out - eventually. The less spinning they have to do the longer it may last. The emphasis is on "may" - a hard drive can fail any time. If you are worried about his, get a second external hard drive and make backup copies of your photos to it.

    Lightroom starting the capture, but then nothing happens more, if I turn off the camera, I get error message photo 100-200 could not be loaded.
    Now I have left lightroom 5 and where the input port works fine.
    What happened to the upgrade from Lightroom 5 to lightroom cc?
    The camera has the latest software.

    I've now tested in various ways.
    First, I have images on both memory cards in the camera.
    Test1) Selects Not all of the photos in the camera at the input port bearings, it seems to work fine.
    Test 2) selects all cards in the camera and then get the following, Lightroom starts inportera short but stops and nothing happens (Fig.1).
    I turn the camera off after a while and get the next meddelnade (picture 1)
    Which can be translated:

    I know your original pl/sql routine contained a COMMIT, but did you use the same code with the COMMIT? If not, are you checking the table from a different session?
    I ran your same code and it worked without issues. Are saying if you do a SELECT COUNT(*) from test007 it returns zero rows?

  • How do I correctly import images into Lightroom?

    Before installing Adobe Creative Cloud, I deleted Adobe Elements and all files in My Pictures on my hard drive so I could start fresh. I copied groups of images from CS5 Bridge on my old pc onto an empty flashdrive and tried to import them to Lightroom. In addition to those copied images, whole bunches of other images imported. Even worse, those added images were sorted strangely, not even belonging to the groups as I had them in my old pc.

    Since you used the Copy import type, at least the images are also where they originally were, other than those on the flash-drive which was a temporary location for images from another location except when you plug it in.
    So there seem to be two unexpected things: more images were imported than you wanted to be imported, and some of the images are in folders that don't match the date they were taken.
    The folder-date mismatch might be due to some of the photos not having a taken-date in the exif information so the date they were last modified is used, instead.  You should check your destination naming options in LR to see if you have things set to import into date folders or not.  If not, then you actually specified that LR import a particular import's photos into a specifically-named folder that you typed the name of.
    As far as how extra photos got imported, only you can answer that.  It would have to do with where you told LR to import from and if you have Include Subfolders selected.  There is a way to specify an Auto Import folder using LR / File / Auto Import where LR will watch for photo files and import photos it see show up in that folder, but I doubt that is the problem.
    You'll have to decide on what to do now.  If you have all the photos still on the flash drive, then you might want to start over.  However, also think about if you want to be doing a Copy Import into your pictures folder from everywhere else, or if you want to use Explorer to copy the photos, yourself, outside of LR and do an Add import.  A Copy import from the flash drive could make more sense, since that is only a temporary location for the photos, but for other photos already on your computer, an Add import might make more sense.  If you use your OS copy commands to move photos from the flash drive to your computer's internal drive, you can decide what to name the folders, instead of LR choosing, if you have LR Import set to use dates.
    If things aren't in completely the wrong places, you can drag-and-drop within the LR Library Folders panel to put things where you want, and you can also right-click Remove (without deleting from disk) any extra photos.
    Also, there is nothing magic about the Pictures folder.  You can choose to make a new folder and put your LR photos under it.
    The bottom line is that LR isn't doing anything more than what you told it to do, and it sounds like you just aren't aware of all the settings enabled during your imports so unexpected things happened.

  • Problem importing images into Lightroom 5.6

    I use an iMac 10.9.5. I've been importing CR2 files converting to DNG into Lightroom 5.6 with no problems.
    Suddenly, files are taking an age to import and Lightroom hangs without loading all the files. I have to force quit Lightroom and then my computer hangs and won't shut down. I close by holding the button down on the back of the iMac. Then Lightroom fails to open. After many attempts I've managed to start Lighroom again but I still have the same problem loading the files. I have tried deleting the com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist file in the Preferences folder, as suggested on this forum but that hasn't cured the problem. I don't know whether this has caused a problem but I used a Transcend multi card reader for the first time this week instead of my usual reader. Perhaps there was some kind of issue with compatibility although there shouldn't have been. Now though, I can't upload from my old card reader properly either.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your reply dj..paige. It could have been the new card reader that caused the initial problem but I used more than one card so I don't think the card is the problem. The original reader wouldn't work either.
    Update: Lightroom now seems to be back to normal. I don't know why but it seems to have sorted itself out. Perhaps deleting the com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist file in the Preferences folder had an effect after all, after a few attempts at opening and closing Lightroom.
    I'm sending the Transcend multi card reader back for a refund as I'm sure this started the problem.
    I've wasted two days sorting this - nightmare!

  • How to import image into iPhoto that was modified in Photoshop?

    Hi,
    I figured this out once, but I can't remember what I had to do.
    I modified an image using Photoshop and saved it as a jpg. Now I can't import it into the iPhoto library. I know there was some options I had to set in Photoshop. Can anyone tell me what they are?
    Thanks a lot,
    Bruce
    ps. the original image before editing was in the iPhoto library. All i did was to crop it and save it under a new name.

    When you saved your edit under a new name, did you save it into the iPhoto Library folder? If so, this is why you are unable to import it now. You'll need to go into the library from the Finder and drag that photo out to the Desktop. Then you'll be able to import it into your library. Be careful when you are in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder, as any changes you make to the files and folders that are there (correctly placed by the app) will damage your library.
    Regards.

  • How to import images into keynote without losing quality?

    Whenever I import (either by dragging or through keynote import) high resolution images (either jpg or png) at high resolution (say 1920x1280) into any keynote presentation (1280x1024) it somehow automatically gets compressed into a really ugly lowres image. This, in my case, makes it impossible to present designs properly. Is this a setting or am I importing them wrong?

    I think this is your answer.
    Images in JPEG format remain JPEG images; other formats are converted to TIFF. After an image has been downsampled, you can’t restore it to its original size by clicking Original Size in the Metrics inspector. To avoid downsampling and use images at their original size, turn off automatic downsampling inKeynote preferences.

  • Best way  to reload images into Lightroom 5.4

    I use Lightroom 5.4. My computer hard drive crashed,but I have a back up hard drive. When I reloaded my files from the backup drive to the computer drive, the images were not in the same file structure. After discussing it with someone at Adobe tech support, I deleted all the thumbnails. So Lightroom is currently lacking any images but still possesses all the collection names I had created.
    Also, my images currently on the computer drive are located in several different folders, all on my desktop.
    Question:
    What is the easiest and most logical way to reload all the images into Lightroom?
    I assume that I should first move all images on the computer drive to a single location. If I do that, must I then somehow eliminate the folder(s) structure on my computer drive so that I would then reload each image individually into Lightroom and then move also into the existing collection structure, i.e., the various collection folders?
    Any other comments or suggestions.

    There should not be a need to "re-load" (I assume you mean "re-import") images into Lightroom.
    If you have backups of your catalog file and your photos, then all you need to do is open (File->Open Catalog) a copy of a recent catalog file backup, and possibly re-link the photos via http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm. Please give that a try.

  • Importing images into Lr

    Hi,
    I imported images into Lightroom from a folder I created on my desktop, I got images from Iphoto, and now Lr tells me images are "offline".  I cannot work on them.  I haven't purchased license yet and am using the 30 trial, though I don't thing that should matter.  Please help.
    Thank you,
    Patricia Micaela

    Hey Patricia, yes you can learn lightroom in many ways. One is by going through the below Lightroom Help files.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/learn-lightroom.html
    Other is through different LR videos present on various sites including Adobe TV and Lynda.com. I was able to gather few of them for you.
    http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-lightroom-4/
    http://www.lynda.com/search?q=lightroom+4&x=19&y=7&f=producttypeid%3a2%3bmeta_software_fac et%3aLightroom
    Hope that Helps!

  • Importing images into projects

    can any1 please tell me how to import images into my netbeans IDE projects?this should be such that the jar file that is created displays them correctly- i am having this said problem with .jar files.
    plz help!!

    i use a function createImageIcon(ImageIcon icon) wfor which i provide a definition.
    the definition is as given in the java tutorial as follows
    protected static ImageIcon createImageIcon(String path)
    java.net.URL imgURL = LabelDemo.class.getResource(path);
    if (imgURL != null) {
    return new ImageIcon(imgURL, description);
    } else {
    System.err.println("Couldn't find file: " + path);
    return null;
    the program executes perfectly from the IDE when i use the run finction of F6 key. I use netbeans IDE. the images are kept in a folder named images in the 'src' folder of the project. this folder is used to store source files by the IDE. The main thing is i put the images in such a place that the program executes perfectly without errors from the IDE. using the IDE which shows the contents of a .jar file, i verified that the images are indeedd present in the JAR file. however i still continue to get the same error. infact after add ing the images folder and running a 'clean and build' operation , the only difference is that the jar file, which still doesnt display images on buttons, labels etc has increased in size confirming tht the images have been added- i also verified this from the command line.
    but the same problem persists.

    I am not able to import photos into Lightroom 5.7.  When I select a folder, it doesn't show a preview of the images and the import button is greyed out. ??
    I have been using Lightroom 5 for 2-3 months now and all worked well, up until today's effort to import a new set of photos. I am working on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1.

    Go to the bibliothec module, select the folder, right click on the folder and hit synchronize
    Sorry I have only a german version , so don't know what your menu will show.

  • Can't import any images into lightroom 5

    Working away in my studio and suddenly I can't import any images into lightroom 5 (version5.5) for macbook pro os x 10.9.5

    Thank you for your response,
    ...my complete goofiness.
    I somehow managed to change my destination folder in Lightroom when importing images and could not copy to the "location" (or as the right panel indicates, the "destination").
    So adjusted my destination folder and am back to importing as usual.
