How to import itunes after export?

Before I erased my Macbook hard drive I exported my Itunes playlist/library.
When I import the exported fies (M3U8, XML, M3U) it only gives me a name, I do not see any songs?
Can I re-open the files and add the songs back into the library?

Hi,
I usually do a quick find/replace in the file, or use to a script which scans the xml and replaces the locations.
I dont think there is a way within eas, you probably could also write some sql which would update the relational database though I would be wary of that method and also eas caches alot of information so it would probably require restarting the service if you went down that route.
Cheers
John

  • How to import iTunes XML library into MS Acess database?

I have exported my iTunes data to a library XML file. When I try to import these data to a MS Access database (without the sound files of course) I only get strange and stupid table entries.
I would like to use MS Access to create more flexible reports of my music collection.
Has anyone ever imported iTunes XML files into MS Access successfully?
P.S. An import solution to OpenOffice.org as alternative is also appreciated.

In iTunes, you can "Export Song List" and one of the other options is to export as a text file. This actually creates a comma or tab separated values file, which is a lot easier to import into Microsoft stuff than the XML file is.

  • How to import itunes music & playlists frm extrnal drive onto new computer?

HI! i have had my itunes library on an external drive for some time because my old laptop didnt have enough memory. i have now purchased a new computer (HP 6700 w/ Vista) with enough memory to hold that library. i think i'd like to import the library to the new computer and leave the external drive and old laptop as back-up. can someone please advise me how to import the library from the external drive onto my new computer in a way that is sure to include all my playlists (im a dj & my playlists are my life!). THANK YOU!!

Ok if you active library file is in the iTubes folder in c:\...My Music, you should have the location of your iTunes Music folder pointing at the folder with you music file on the EHD.
    Look in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General.
(This just confirms things are as you say).
First you need to be sure all your music files are in the iTunes Music folder that you are using on the EHD. Consolidate if they are not.
I assume that the iTunes Music folder in c:\...My Music\iTunes will be empty if you moved all your files to the EHD.
You need to install iTunes on your new computer, but don't add any new music.
Copy the iTunes folder from your c: drive into a convenient place on your EHD.
Now go to your new PC and, with iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of Music to the desktop.
Now copy the iTunes folder that you just saved on the EHD into Music on the new PC so that it replaces the one you dragged out.
You will probably need to set the permissions on the folder to allow your account full control.

At this point, you could duplicate your previous setup by setting the location of your iTunes Music folder to the EHD, but you said you wanted the music on the laptop.
Delete the empty iTunes Music folder in c:\...Music iTunes and replace it with the iTunes Music folder from the EHD. If this folder is not called iTunes Music, rename it. Also check the permissions are OK.
With any luck you should now be able to start iTunes and have your library intact.

  • How to restore iTunes after music files erased

So, I accidentally erased all my music files which were stored on an external hard drive. (Bone headed move, don't ask). Thankfully, all the files were backed up. I restored the external hard drive with all the music files but am not sure what the next move is. Couple of questions:
First, the iTunes application still has all my songs listed. Of course, when I click one, it says it cannot locate the file since, of course, the original file was accidentally deleted. If I simply re-import all the files from my backup harddrive will I have essentially duplicates of every song I have? That is to say 1 file that won't play and one file that will?
Second, should I erase the entire songlist from iTunes and then re-import?
    Third, any other suggestions?
I backed everything up on TimeMachine.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for the reply.
Not sure how I would go about restoring the itl file.
The only files I lost were the actual music files. The hard drive with theiTunes application and other itunes files are fine and untouched but since the original files were deleted, iTunes can't locate them. (Unless I point it toward the restored drive one-by-one)
    Does that make sense?
    Thanks,
    John

  • How to import iTunes Lib from ext disk w/o losing playlists and rating

    Situation:
    PC is newly re-installed.
Back up of music on ext disk D:\My Music and exported .xml file from iTunes with all playlists and ratings
What is the best way to import the music, playlist and ratings on the newly installed pc?
The way I tried: in preference set the music library on D:\My Music and choose Add folder to library and select the D:\My Music folder.
All music correctly imported into iTunes.
    Now import the .xml file.
All playlists appear back in iTunes but my ratings are gone.

If you have an ipod, connecting it to the PC should load the ratings back

  • How to import ITunes library from external drive

Using Mac, Leopard, Time Machine, my hard drive crashed Had a recent backup on Time Machine. New computer doesn't recognize last backup of TM on external hard drive, but I can find my ITunes Library there, with thousands of songs.
when I go in ITunes to Import Library and navigate to the old ITunes Library, it won't let me import the whole thing, only lets me import one song at a time, which would take eons.
Any suggestions on how to do it in one fell swoop?

I'm sure that solution would work, but I guess something else I did is messing things up.
the first tip I got was to Consolidate Library. It forced me to consolidate on another partition of my external hard drive. Now that I tried Add Library, it's putting all the music on that external location, which filled up fast and can't take anymore.
Any thought on how to get my full library back on my internal drive?

  • How to import itune file to windows movie maker

When I try to import an itune file to windows movie maker the error message says a necessary codec file is missing...how can i perform this import?

Find where on the computer the song files are.  Then go into iTunes, use the command File > Add Folder to LIbrary, and navigate it to the folder(s) that contain the songs.
If the files are in MP3 format, they will be added to iTunes immediately.  If they are in unprotected WMA format, iTunes will convert them (one at a time) and add theconverted copy to the iTunes Library, leaving the original in place.

  • How to import iTunes library to Windows 7 Partition?

I ran into a snag installing Windows 7 in that I cannot seem to import my iTunes library of ~300 purchased songs that were purchased in the Mac OS partition. Is there any way to import them into iTunes without re-downloading them from iTunes? Thanks

There are plenty of support docs for iTunes and a forum devoted to iTunes for Windows.
iLounge has a tutorial on importing.

with limit of what you provided, maybe you lack storage, whether you are better off sharing library or placing on a data drive.

  • How to import itunes library from a mac book pro to a new mac air?

How do I go about accessing my itunes library from a new mac air?
CD's and downloads were originally used to create my library on a mac book pro. Can I now access this on my new mac air?

If there is space on the Air, you can use Migration Assistant to transfer the data. (Go into Applications/Utilities, and run Migration Assistant from there - it will tell you what options you have for data transfer). If you wish to keep both laptops, you might look at using iTunes Match, which will make all your music available on the Air but not necessarily download it.

  • How to restart iTunes after Windows re-install

Hi, I hope someone out there can help me. My computer crashed and I had to reinstall Windows (XP Pro). The computer guy moved my iTunes to another drive so the reinstall did not overwrite iTunes. I can see my iTunes music in folders, but when I go to play them, they open in a whole new version of iTunes that was not - at the beginning - populated with any music and, obviously, the new iTunes contains none of my playlists or rankings for any of my songs. I'm not a computer genius (or anywhere close), so I'm not sure what's happened or how I can get my old iTunes reactivated so I don't have to recreate playlists or re-rank my songs. Many thanks!

Authorize iTunes install from the tool bar.
If library was backed up properly you can tell iTunes to use the library file that was backed up. If not backed up properly then add the files to iTunes yourself then recreate any playlists you want.

  • How to Authorize iTunes AFTER deauthorizing it? Please help;-(

I have had my Macbook Pro for 2 weeks and love it.
I authorized iTunes the first day I had my Macbook. This morning I noticed that there were 3 computers authorized to my account so i deauthorized all 3 thinking that I could reauthorize my Macbook right after.  It appears that isn't possible.  What are my options to reauthrize iTunes - or do I have to wait another 12 months?

NEVER MIND I finally figured it out ;-)

  • How to import iTunes purchased song into video with "Muvee autoProducer"?

Using an iTunes purchased song and also "Muvee autoProducer" for the first time and can't use my iTunes purchased song to import into my video. Following the instructions the song doesn't come up as a MUSICFILE, but it is found by selecting ALLFILES. It is an Audio file (protected). For some reason the Windows Media player symbol appears as the program to open file. I select to add it to my video and an error occurs:
"The format of the music file that you have selected is not supported."
    5(80040265).
Have I done something wrong ? Can I change the file format in some way to use ?
    Solution is greatly appreciated THANKS!

I think I have figured it out. I found Popcorn 3 and Crunch by Roxio which will do the job!
    Thanks everyone!
