How to import metadata?

I'm using iPhoto 8.0.2 (402) and trying to import my existing library of photos that were tagged with keywords ratings and locations in Vista Photo Gallery on a PC. The Vista app uses the XMP standard to store the metadata right in the files. When I import the photos in to iPhoto, it just ignores (or removes?) all the existing metadata so none of my pictures show up with any keywords. Can you let me know how to import the photos in to iPhoto so that the existing keywords and ratings show up?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. For rotated photos the best solution is to rotate them before importing into iPhoto. That will avoid problems with later use in applications that do not read or use the orientation tag, like browsers.
Two applications that can losslessly rotate a photo areXee and PhotoTool CM.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • How to import metadata into EPMA application by using ODI

    Hi All,
1.Can you tell anyone, how to import metadata into EPMA application by using ODI. Detailed steps with screen shots will be appreciated.
    2. What was the interface tables. How the interface tables will be useful while importing metadata into EPMA application (Detailed steps with screen shots will be appreciated.). And tell me the interface tables structure and work process. give me the clear idea bout interface tables. I don't know anything about interface tables.
3.Which method(either using ODI or Interface tables) is optimized/bestcase for importing metadata into EPMA application.
My database is Oracle 10g and I am using Planning 9.3.1.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks And Regards,
    Bhagya Lakshmi.

    Hi,
    Answer to your questions
    1. You can't import metadata directly into EPMA using ODI, the only option is use the EPMA interface tables which is your question 2.
    2. Interface tables are just a structure of database tables which you populate with metadata and then this is pushed into EPMA, the structure of the tables takes a while to get an understanding of. The best place to start would be the documentation :- http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/bpma_admin.pdf
    3. As explained in question 1 you can't use ODI directly to import metadata into EPMA but with a lot of hard work and effort you could probably populate interface tables from EPMA, though I must admit I am not a fan of the interface tables because I don't think they were designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind.

    Hi all experts ,
I am trying to create a rpd into obiee 11.1.1.6 from a VMWARE based hyperion essbase machine,
I am able access its console via url on my remote machine but not able to connect with essbase server via admin tools essbase connection to import metadata of essbase.
The os are different, OBIEE on 64 bit win 7 ultimate and hyperion essbase 11.1.2.2 on windows server 2003 64 bit enterprise, inside vm ware.
    Thanks in advance

thanks for the reply, but MY os is win 7 awhere I am not able to install hyperion essbase 11.1.2.2 client.
both the ARBORPATH and ESSBASEPATH are not available with this release, as they are coming with 9.3.1 and 11.1.3
    the link http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/hyp/OBIEE11g-Essbase/index.htm

  • How to import metadata from Address Book on external hard drive to new laptop running OSX 10.8.3?

My old MacBook died a painful death.  I retrieved the hard drive and have it in a portable enclosure that has a USB connection.  I can see the old Address Book on it, but when I transfered the Address Book application to my new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.3, the application will transfer, but it won't open because it is not supported on the newer MacBook.  I searched around the old hard drive for any files that could be related to the Address Book contact data.  I found metadata files for each of my contacts.  I can get the metadata to transfer to the new MacBook, but I can't seem to do anything with it.
I tried using Migration Assistant, doing it manually, trying to import the metadata using "import" feature on the new version of Address Book.  Can't seem to find anything that works.
Any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

If you open a contacts database from an earlier version of OS X, the data should be imported automatically. Is that what you tried to do?

  • How to Import Metadata into another projec

I am using OWB 10.2. Is there a way to specify which project you want the meta data to be imported to? For instance, I have projectA and Project B. I want to import the meta data into project B. Is this possible?

I think that idea of user533778 (renaming projects) should work.
    But with my note:
    1) export project A
    2) rename project A to A1
    3) rename project B to A
    4) import project from file (and don't forget set importing option!!!)
    5) rename projects backward (A->B, A1->A)
    Try to set import options:
    - "Import option" to "Update metadata (replace existing objects and create new metadata)"
    - "Match by" to "Names"

  • How to import XMP metadata in pdf

Could you please explain me, how to import XMP metadata in pdf file through "Live Cycle ES"?

Yes, with LiveCycle ES (almost) all services can be invoked from any of the available endpoints (watch folder, EJB, WebService, etc).
In this case since the ImportXMP requires two input files (the PDF and the XMP) you will need to drop a directory containing both of your files into the watch folder (not the individual files). This is because several requests can be dropped into the watch folder at the same time and without the sub directories LiveCycle couldn't tell what XMP when with what PDF.
A com.adobe.idp.Document - AKA: Document - object is one of the common object types used across all LiveCycle products. When you deal with PDFs and many other binary file objects they are stored a Document object. It is more important that you know this when using Workbench, web services or the Java API.
You should have a look at the documentation at: http://livedocs.adobe.com/livecycle/8.2/programLC/programmer/help/001553.html

ODI reading from Oracle General Ledger and importing in EPMA interface tabels

    Hello,
Unfortunately there is no difference in what you have just described.
    ERPi leverages ODI.
The only major difference between ERPi w/ ODI versus ODI (independant) is that the defined scenarios, workflow and relevant error checking is already built, packaged and supported by Oracle.
    Thank you,

  • How to transfer metadata from old PC to new Mac?

    All,
I would like to transfer my entire iTunes library from a PC to a MacBook Pro. The PC runs XP. My key question is how to import the metadata, i.e., play count and ratings?

    Hey JDelage,
Thanks for the question. This sort of data is stored within the iTunes Library itself, so you’ll want to transfer the entire iTunes folder. The following resource outlines some techniques, of which external drive may be your best option:

  • Is there a way to import metadata to wav files in my library?

Is there a way to import metadata to wav files in my library?
I have about 1,500 .wav files that are presently in my iTunes library, but as most of you are aware .wav files have their limitations with regard to how iTunes translates their specific track information. I haven't been archiving using .wav in sometime, I've since switched to another more iTunes friendly format. But, I have these 1,500 files left and I'm desperately trying to find a faster way to log the info.
I've built a data table with all of the track information I want to import. Does anyone know of a good macro, or script that will allow me to import this data so I don't have to manually open each individual .wav file and input this manually?
    Any help would be appreciated!
Note: I've searched the forums, and I've looked at similar posts, but nothing to solve this specific little quandary. If I've somehow overlooked a post, please forgive my repeat post.

I can probably help with this.
I have a script called TagFromFilename that can apply fill in the details that can be extracted from the file path if the .wavs are stored in the layout <Album Artist>\<Album>\[D-]## <Name>[ - <Artist>].<Ext> where D is an optional leading disc number and <Artist> is an optional trailing artist (otherwise both artist and album artist are set to the grandparent folder). You just need to make sure that before you add the tracks to iTunes, that it won't rename the files. You can do this by turning off the Keep option if the files are inside the media folder, or the copy option if the tracks are located outside.
Alternatively I have another script called ExportImport which allows for almost any editable to be adjusted, as long as you can export the internal track IDs of each track and then marry them up with the data you want to import. See Batch Add Comments Tag Solution? for a previous example of how if might be done. I'll gladly go into more detail if you tell me what fields you already have and what identifying information is present.

  • Total Newbie here.  How to import .dmp.

I am completely new to Oracle Databases. The only thing I have used in the past is access. I have been given a Oracle Database .dmp file that I need to import into a database to see what is in it. I have installed Oracle Database 11g Express Edition and Oracle SQL Developer. I have read some things about the imp and impdp commands but I don't know how to use them correctly. My questions are:
Where should I put the .dmp file so that the database can see it?
What command should I give at the SQL> prompt? I have tried impdp user/password file=NH0339016.dmp This didn't work.. I got the error "unknown command beginning "impdp user..." - reset"
After importing it, how do I see what is in the database?
I'm really struggling with this thing and I would appreciate any help that I can get.
    Thanks
    Will

    Hi Will,
I have been given a Oracle Database .dmp file
I have read some things about the imp and impdp commands but I don't know how to use them correctly. Did you also get the information how that dump file has been created?
You've already learned that there are two kinds of "dump" in Oracle: the old (conventional) and the somewhat more recent "data pump". Both use different dump formats, so you have to use the proper import application to get the contents into your database.
Where should I put the .dmp file so that the database can see it?That depends on the import application. If you have a datapump dump (impdp) there is a default "directory" in the database (*DATA_PUMP_DIR*) and it points to ORACLE_HOME/admin/xe/dpdump . You can also create a new directory that points to the place your dump file resides in and and hand this in as parameter. Make sure the database user you start the import with has the grants needed for the directory you use. For all parameters available, use
impdp help=yIf you have a convetional dump (imp) you simple give the file with its complete path as parameter or change to that path first. You can query the application for additional parameters by executing
    imp help=y
After importing it, how do I see what is in the database?Well, you have SQL Developer, right? Create a connection to the schema you've imported the data to (perhaps you have to created it first, depending on how the dump has been created) and browse it.
Note that Oracle has different semantics than access. "database" is usually a "database instance". Each instance carries several "schemas" (equivalent to database user).

P.S.: I'd recommend to read the [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/server.112/e18804/toc.htm]2 Day DBA to get to know your database. If you want to quick start and my previous explanation is not sufficient for you, you should at least read the chapter [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/server.112/e18804/impexp.htm#CFHJAHAA]Exporting and Importing Metadata and Data.

  • How to import ORacle 7 database to Oracle 10g by using OWB?

Hi, I have an old Oracle 7 database that I want to import into an Oracle 10g database by using OWB. I have made an odbc connection to the Oracle 7 database, and the dblink is working when I test it through SQL Plus, and I also manage to see the source tables in the import wizard. But after I have selected the tables I want and "execute", then an error comes up that I can not figure out.
I am using Microsoft Oracle odbc driver on a Windows 2003 Server. I tried to use the ORacle 10g odbc driver, but then I could not connect to Oracle 7. I got a message about a specified driver that could not be loaded due to system error 127.
Anyway, I can connect and see the tables by using the Microsoft ODBC driver, but it will not import the metadata.
Is there a tutorial or something about how to import through an odbc connection?

    Ronny,
It's not possible to create a database link from 10g to 7. See the following Metalink article:
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=207303.1
To use the database link approach you'll need to create a 9.2 'hop' database -- a database who's sole purpose is to allow connections from 10g and from which you can connect to 7.
However OWB itself won't read metadata out of a 7 database, so you'll need to do some manual work -- eg create views on the 9.2 database for the tables on the 7 database that you want to read from.
Another potential solution is to use the heterogenous data services to connect via ODBC to the Oracle 7 instance; again OWB might not be able to read the metadata in which case you should create views somewhere where OWB can read from.
I hope my ramblings make some sort of sense :-)
    Cheers,
    Colin
