How to import .mov to FCE?

I used HandBrake to rip some sports footage to MP4 (using the preset "Android High). When I tried to imort it to FCE, it wouldn't work.
So, I used QT to export it using the 480p Preset and got an MOV. But, FCE still wouldn't take it.
What do I need to do to import it to FCE? Please help!
Thanks,
Adam

Open the MP4 in MPEG Streamclip and export it to QuickTime, Apple Intermediate Codec.

Download and innstall MPEG Streamclip (freeware) on your system.  Use that app to convert the MP4 files to QuickTime DV (not DV Stream) for standard definition footage, or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for high definition footage.
You can import the converted file(s) into an FCE project.

How to import movies from imovies to a memory card.

Well, if you mean transfer movies from the iMovie events folder, go to that folder as in Finder-movies-imovie events, and drag a copy to your card.
Or, you could finish making the movie, and drag the .mov file from your desktop or wherever you have it.

Don't understand how to import movies on DVD/s to the iTunes library

If these are personal movies and you have the original files (that you created the DVDs from), use those instead. Converting to DVD then back reduces quality.
And as Skydiver119 noted, it is illegal to break the encryption on commercial DVDs, even if you own the DVD.

  • How to Import .MOV files in Adobe After Effects, I am Using Canon 700d for FilmShooting

    Hello,
I have Just brought a canon 700d and started Shooting HD Movies but now i want to add some effects in my video E.G. Twixtor effect for slow motion but I am facing a problem that i cannot import .MOV file in Adobe AE CS4. Please help me. Also If you can tell me any free converter for .MOV to AF file format.
I am using Windows 8 OS.
    Thanks!

CS4 is much older than Windows 8. CS4 is meant to work on XP or Vista. Getting it to run on Windows 7 was a bit of an issue, so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that you have CS4 running on Windows 8 at all.
It's also possible that a new camera records in a codec that such an old version of AE doesn't understand.
Make sure you're running the latest update to your version of AE. You're on version 9, so make sure you've run the Adobe After Effects CS4 9.0.3 Update (I would not suggest updating in the middle of a project though, as any changes might break AE). I would like to reiterate: you're running a version that was released six years ago on an operating system that was released much more recently. So, be careful how you tread. However, if you're not running 9.0.3, you're missing some bug fix updates that might solve your problem.
I would suggest upgrading to a newer version of AE.
That being said, as Dave mentions, CS4 and earlier had lots of trouble with MPEG-4 and other codecs that used interframe compression. Can you open the files in your version of Premiere? If so, you can use Premiere or the Adobe Media Encoder to convert to a proper intermediate codec. MOV is just a container format. QuickTime with the PNG codec will work in After Effects CS4 with no problems as will the other codecs Dave mentions.

  • How to import .MOV files coming from everio camcorder ?

How can I import  .MOV files coming from everio camcorder to imovie ? All I've tried failed, iMovie doesn't want my files, or even recognize.
    All answer welcome.
    Thanx

JVC released the Quicktime Components update:
    <http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/update_qtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3e_update.htm>
which should take care of TOD files playing in Quicktime, but:
The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.

You need a Firewire connection to import directly into iMovie. If your camera does not have a Firewire connection (most have both Firewire and USB) then you will not be able to import directly. There are work-arounds for that situation, but you asked about direct import.

  • How to import movie clips from DVD?

    Hi,
A really stupid question, and possibly this has been asked before, but I am at my wits end--is there a way I can import video clips to iMovie from a DVD disc that contains video files? When I try to select 'import movies' from the file menu, it won't import the clips because the video files contained within the dvd are VOB. IFO. and BUP. formats, and the iMovie will only read MPEG or mov. Is there a way I can somehow import these clips by changing the setting somewhere in the iMovie or am I to require some other type of application to convert these files before I can successfully import them?
I'm really only trying to make a simple short clip, nothing big. The longest it will probably be is at most 5 mins. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Is there a way I can somehow import these clips by changing the setting somewhere in the iMovie or am I to require some other type of application to convert these files before I can successfully import them?
Not by changing a setting. Multiplexed MPEG-2 content is not iMovie '08 "edit" compatible. Either the content is recognized as being on a compatible camcorder and converts the content to an "edit" compatible compression format or you must manually convert the multiplexed MPEG-2 content yourself for import at the "Finder" file level.
    Any suggestions?
If your VOB files are not encrypted (i.e., on a homemade DVD), then they can be copied to your hard drive. Once on your hard drive, you can use any of several applications to perform your conversion. Cost and work flow depend on the application you use. I normally recommend a new user try something like iSquint for their initial attempt. It is free and simple to use. Simply drop the copied VOB file containing the video you want to the application work area, set the "Optimize for TV" option, and press the "Start" button. This will produce an MPEG4/AAC file that can be edited. Other applications can produce alternative compression formats for editing but are either more difficult to use or are not totally free. My preference would by MPEG Streamclip here, but it requires a $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component and s much more difficult to use since it has many more options and capabilities. Visual Hub (iSquint's "big brother") is as simple to use, but is a "pay-ware" application. In any case, the free application should allow you to do what you want and then you can decide if you need/want to invest more in the way of cost, time, and/or effort in a better application.
I use Quicktime pro as well to export any file to a version that iMovie will work with
Unfortunately, QT Pro will not work in this case since QT Pro is not conversion compatible with multiplexed MPEG-2 formats. Even if you add the $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component, it will only convert the video portion of the file. Use an MPEG-based, third-party application like those mentioned above or FFmpegX (donation-ware/difficult to use) or MPEG2 Works (Pay-ware that also requires the $20 MPEG-2 component, etc.

  • How to import .mov files that wont play in QT (but play with vlc player)

I have a batch of .mov files of which QT only plays the audio (video is blank) - same thing when I try to open in Final Cut Express HD. I am able to open these with VLC player. How do I convert these files so that I can edit them in FCE? I am suspecting maybe these are HD files and the problem is related to that.

.. interesting to learn a drawback of FCE to FCP, one not mentioned to me by the Apple sales associate ..
perhaps, it was 'too self-evident' for the sales-person, that FCE is meant for camcorder-imports with a few consumer formats only, DV (as from miniDV), HDV, AVCHD (=last two get converted automatically to AIC) - done.
.. in my main area, iMovie, we permanently read, how people are surprised, that those editors are made _by concept_ as camcorder-editors, not 'file-editors' .. Apple/mov='editable by Apple/FCE' is a fallacy ..

  • How to import .mov to itunes

Can't import a .mov movie to Itunes. How do i do that?

Open iTunes and drag your files into the library. If they are playable, you should see a green tab with the number of files and a progress bar at the top of the main window showing import progress.
You'll have to convert them to .mp4 files before your iPod will accept them. Select the movies in iTunes and use the Advanced menu -> Create iPod or iPhone version.

  • How to import Movie from Handycam?

    Hi,
I have to quickly download a movie from a friends Sony Handycam DCR-HC40 NTSC. Had hoped that it would be easy. But I cant figure out how to download the movie onto my Mac. I have iMovie HD and all the other iLive applications.
Gues I have to change some settings in the camera but can't figure it out.
It did recognise the USB stick with a picture on it. No problemo. But now the data I realy want from the Tape.
    Please help.
    THANKS

    Hello Roger,
first of all you'll need to replace the USB cable with a firewire cable - iMovie doesn't accept USB transfer.
In iMovie create a project (NTSC should be default for you but anyway the project will adapt to the camera's settings), then connect the camera and turn it on. iMovie should automatically switch to ablue screen and tell you "Camera connected". Now you can control the camera from within iMovie (play - rew - ff) and import.
If you want to capture single clips, check "make new clip at scenebreak" in your preferences before importing. In preferences you can also choose if you want the clips transferred to the clips pane or directly to the timeline.
    hope this helps

  • I Movie 9, How to import MOV files?

I imported video files from my JVC camera. File type is MOV. Files are now located in my documents folder. I have not managed to import those files to I Movie. When I take a look files in Finder, Finder claims that MOV files are I Photo -files? How do I manage to import these video files to I Movie? At the moment I can not open files at all.

    Hi,
I work for JVC and would like to try and help.
The best & easiest way to bring JVC Everio camcorder video into your Mac is through iMovie '08 or iMovie '09. Launch iMovie, then connect the camcorder via USB. When you do this, you will get a USB Menu on the camcorder. The 1st option is "Playback on PC". Select that, and iMovie should recognize the camcorder and then show a preview screen with thumbnails of every scene that is recorded on your camcorder. If it does not automatically recognize the camcorder, you can select "Import from Camera" from the iMovie menu, which should work. Then you just select the scenes you want to import. It's that easy.
Files are saved on your Mac as .mov format. No special settings should be required. A Quick Time MPEG2 plug-in is needed to play them in Quick Time, or you can use iMovie to export them in a variety of other formats.
Please note that older versions of iMovie cannot be used without first converting your JVC video files. I don't recommend that, as it adds extra time, and can degrade the quality of your video. Also, you cannot first copy the JVC video files from the camcorder to your Mac, and then import through iMovie. You need to connect the cam, and go directly into iMovie as described above. I'm not sure why, but that is the case.
    I hope this helps.
