How to import mp4 into after effects cs4

I recently got a gopro hero 3 and wanted to slow a 960p 50fps video down in AE but i cannot open it. it just keeps saying it's of an unsopported format. How do I fix this?

Interesting. Did not know CS4 could run at all on Windows 8.
I maintain my previous answer. It has always ever been that codecs using interframe compression schemes didn't play nice with CS4 and previous versions. Transcode your footage to something else. Quicktime with the PNG codec would be one choice, I've not tried the Cineform codec (free from GoPro) with CS4, but it's worth a shot.

Bridge not importing files into After Effects

From AE I go to File > Browse in Bridge...
Bridge opens up and I find the file I want. If I double click the file, an AI for instance, it opens the file within Illustrator. I could find, double click it, and it opens in Photoshop.
I feel as though I'm missing how to import files into After Effects by using bridge.
I'm running CC 2014 on a Win 7 machine.

Probably an issue with whatever created the files in the first place. WMV doesn't have Alpha, but can have multiple streams... anyway, AE is crap at dealing with such stuff, so convert it using an external tool like Handbrake or whatever...

How to import MP4 into iMovie09

You will need to convert it to something that iMovie can edit.
1) The first step is to see if QuickTime can play it. See if you can open it in QuickTime Player.
If you can, Proceed to Step 3
2) If QuickTime cannot play it, I would try to download a set of open source codecs called Perian. They will handle many odd codecs like this. Go to Perian.ORG and download them. Then go back to step 1.
Note: If Perian does not work for you, come back for some more ideas.
3) Once QuickTime can play it, you need to convert it to something iMovie can edit. If you have QuickTime Pro, use that. If you would prefer a free alternative, download MPEG STREAMCLIP from Squared 5. Drag the 3G2 clip into MPEG Streamclip and then FILE/Export to QuickTIme...
Choose Apple Intermediate Codec (for highest quality) or choose h.264 (for smallest file size) and save it in a place you can find it.
4) Now open iMovie, and use FILE/IMPORT...MOVIES to import the converted file into iMovie for editing.

Importing video into After effects, premiere pro and media encoder result in freezing

I have been trying to import a 17 minute long mp4 video shot with a go-pro into after effects and premiere pro with the result of the program locking up each time. My next thought was try to import it into media encoder and change the file format but it is causing media encoder to lock up as well. Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated

Sounds like something might be fishy with the video file. You might try converting with different software, which can often be more forgiving than Adobe tools.

Imported song into After Effects CS6 and won't fully render.

I imported a song into After Effects CS6 to use audio waveforms. I click RAM preview but it won't render or play past 18 seconds. What am I doing wrong and how do I render the entire audio track so it will actually play all the way through with the effects on it.

Ram preview length is determined by the amount of available ram. It is also usually limited to the work area. Either lower the resolution of the comp window or extend the work area.

Problem importing .vpe into After Effects CC 2014

I am having Issues importing .vpe files exported from Photoshop CC 2014 (2014.1.0 - most recent update to date) into After Effects CC 2014 (13.0.2.3 - latest update to date) on Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.4. After a (lengthy) couple of chats to Adobe customer support I was advised to update both programs to fix my original issue outlined in this thread VPE issue and this has half way fixed my issues (The export from Photoshop now works properly).
The problem I have now is that when importing the .vpe file to After Effects I get an error:
"Unable to execute script at line 107. Function newLayer.transform[sel].setValue is undefined".
The process creates a composition and a folder which is meant to contain the .png's. Inside the composition, the one imported .png is present, but no parent or camera layers.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is the bug present on Windows? Does anyone know if this will be fixed in the update forthcoming? It isn't listed as one of the stand out bug fixes.

We're getting kinda tired of the Beta nature of the CC suite here in my department at work. Our internet speeds are currently not great and so having to download so many updates is a bit of an issue. Is there any other way to download updates remotely? That is to say on a different machine than the install of After Effects? Could I perhaps download update files at home, put them on a USB drive and bring them in?

Really my question is about after effects, which then renders to a quick time movie. I have imported music into after effects many times, and all of a sudden after import and playing it under ram preview, it stops about 4/5 through the work.

when I import a song into after effects it only plays 4/5 and then stops. I'm viewing it in RAM preview.
the composition time is fine.

Random sync problems importing aaf into After Effects from Avid

The source footage is 23.98 H.264. The Avid is importing DNX36 and editing in a 23.98 timeline. When the AAF is brought into After Effects the clips are all there but the sync drifts and in some cases is randomly more out of sync than other clips.

I thought that changing the frame rate in the composition settings would have worked.
Instead what I should have done is to go the the footage in the Project Panel then right-click on the footage > Interpret Footage > Main... then Conform to frame rate: Frame rate: 23.986607 (or whatever more accurate frame rate your footage actually is)
I used the more accurate frame rate reading from VLC which went to 5 decimal places. I got that info from the top menu in Tools > Codec Information
Its a shame AE doesn't pick up on the more accurate fps. It seems that all the videos from my iPhone 4 have slightly different frame rates and I guess I will have to interpret each clip properly.
I hear that the frame rate on the iPhone 4 is different depending on the lighting? I wonder why that would be the case?

Video not importing correctly into After Effects CS5

I just downloaded a trial version of After Effects CS5 to work on a couple corporate videos, but I'm having issues importing the footage (.WMV). When I try to import, I get a message saying that there is an unnamed alpha layer (with a few options on how to fix the alpha layer). Regardless of the option I choose, only the bottom half of my footage imports. It looks like this.
How can I fix this?

Cannot paste text into After Effects CS4

Hi there,
I've searched all over and I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious; but how do you copy and paste text from one program into an active text box in AE CS4?
I'm adding credits to a video and I need to put down some copyright info - and I want to copy and paste all the details so I don't need to type it all.
But I can work around that - I can just type it. However, I want to copy the © symbol in - and this is what happens.
I open character map, search for "copy" and select this "©" and click on copy, jump into ae, go into an active text box with cursor blinking, and Cntr+V for paste and boom! - there I have a whole phrase jump in - which was whatever I last copied from AE text box -- NOT what I just copied from character map.
But then I come over here to the forums and without copying that symbol again, I just hit paste and it pastes it right in here.
It acts the same way with other text, from browser, from photoshop (active text box - copy selected text).
I would assume there's a way to copy and paste, but what am I missing?

Allow me to be slightly embarrassed - you must be exactly right. This morning I went back and tried again, and it worked perfectly!
Still makes me wonder why it didn't work yesterday - I restarted Adobe but didn't restart the computer like I did over night.

I had a project in AE that was 80 seconds long, no external video footage but all built in AE at 1280 X 720, 30 fps
I'm guessing some background process maybe messed the clipboard up? Anyway, it works now and I guess it was a one-time occurence. If I can ever recreate this repeatedly - I'll be back here!

Problems getting data out of Mocha and into After Effects

Hi. I'm using After Effect CS4. I brought a video clip into Mocha and tracked it. I've tried copying the data to clipboard and also went back and saved as a text file since I could't paste into After Effects.
Haven't figured out how to make either method work.
At first, I'd created a Null Object in AFX and added the COrner Pin Effect, but the paste option is greyed out - doesn't matter if I select the layer or the Corner Pin effect.
Next I created a solid since I'd seen that mentioned on some threads, but Paste is still greyed out.
Tried exporting the tracking data as a file from mocha next and have the corner pin data sitting on my desktop as a txt file - but still not sure how to get that into After Effects CS4 - tried this with a null and a solid, but not working.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, AE's corner pin does the same. It's how it is supposed to work. You need to choose the RG Warp compliant variant to only get corner pin data. The rest is too vague. Wee need exact info on what you are doing. Tracks appearing to be static is simply an issue where coordinates are introduced twice and somehow self-compensate, which for all intents and purposes could relate to the previously described issue....

Importing a Premiere Pro Sequence into After Effects Crashes After Effects

Hello,
I'm on a Quad Core Mac, 2.8GHZ with 6GB of Ram.
I have a Premeire Pro project with varying MOV and MP4 files; from a DSLR and from a Sony EX-1 camera. This project has lots of media, over 3 TBs, and each and every time I try to import it into After Effects-After Effects crashes and does not respond.

Don't try and do a whole movie in AE. After Effects is for making shots or short sequences. Break up the projects. Organize. 3TB of source materials into AE's Project folder means linking, analyzing, interpreting, and generating previews for enough material to shoot a feature film. Bring in the shots you're working on, not the entire movie. If you need to do an entire movie, break that up to Scenes and make each scene a separate project.
Terabytes of data would also choke Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, or any other NLE if it was dumped in all at once. The only reason that a NLE can handle that much data is that there were some caches created when the footage was imported.

Problem with importing premiere project into after effects

Hi. When I import premiere project into after effects CS4 the files I speed up 2x (for example) look likes on the snapshot below, and they are not in the correct places.
what can I do?

Then don't speed them up... This is "as designed". AE and Premiere are not compatible in their tiem-remapping/ time-stretching, so tehre is no way to move between them without losing that info.
