  • How to import dmg files into imovie

    Hi,
I copied home movies that were on DVD's onto my desktop. They all came in as a dmg format. How do I get these into imovie so I can start creating projects using the various footage from them?  Help!  Thanks!

Ah you didn't mention that you had a Video DVD, that's an important bit of information.
A DVD that was made to be played on a DVD player has a very different format form one made for a computer. In order to access the content of the DVD o you will need to convert or rip the DVD. Please realize that if the DVD is a commercial DVD (or a copy of one) then it is protected by DRM and you will not be able to rip it and also it is against the TOU here on ASC to discuss the ripping of commercial DVD's. Apple will pull your account here is that is the case.
So with that in mind you can rip the DVD using something like HandBrake

  • How to import .AVI Files to IMOVIE, or burn them to DVD directly.

I downloaded a .avi video file from the internet. I want to burn it to a DVD so I can watch it on my DVD player. So what do I do? Can I burn it directly to a DVD? if so, how? Or Do I have to put it in IMOVIE and burn it from there? If it's through IMOVIE, how do I get the .avi file in, because I tried to, and it says its to big I need to cut it in segments using Quicktime pro, which I don't have.
Please someone help me, let me know what is the easiest thing to do.
    Thankyou

    Rats.
OK, bring it into iMovie. This will convert to DV (usually making the file much larger). iDVD reads DV files.
If the movie is longer than about 9 minutes, you may need to split it:

  • How to import AVCHD files to imovie

Hi Apple community, I just got a Cannon Vixia R300 and I can't import AVCHD to iMovie. Any suggestions. Thank you.

This camera should work easily by taking the SD card and putting it in a USB (or built-in) card reader.
Open iMovie and it should recognize the card. If it does not after a minute or so, try FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA.
If you import by hooking a USB cable to the camera, make sure that the camera is plugged into AC power, not batteries only.
    What have you tried?

how can i import mpeg files into iMovie?

    Where are your MPEG stored?
I have hundreds of old MPEGs stored in my nexternal drive, but unfortunatly i was not able import them into iMovie. I did the following trick: I created a new set of a folder and subfolder and called it "Virtual_CAM/DCIM" and saved it on my desktop. Then went to Disk Utilities>File Menue>New>Disk Image from Folder. Then selected the folder on my desktop and clicked enter. I moved the .dmg file to my external (or just keep it on your desktop). I clicked on the .dmg file. It shoud be visible on the Finder. Open your Imovie and import as you do from your camera.

  • How to import MXF files to Final Cut Pro with smooth editing

Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To
help those who wanna edit MXF files in FCP without problems, here I
share with you a simple guide on how to convert MXF files to edit in
Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes
MOV for FCP 6/7/X under Mac OS. Once the MXF to ProRes 422 conversion
is done, you can transfer MXF footage into Final Cut Pro (X) for editing
    smoothly on Mac with ease.

  • How to import a .mov  in iMovie?

How to import a .mov  in iMovie?

    Hi
.mov is no Video-Codec - it is a container (as a folder) that can hold about just anything
Open Your .mov file with QuickTime-player
    Open Inspector [cmd+I]
    read
    Video format (Codec): nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
    Frames per second: YY.yy
    What does they say ?
QuickTime can open many more Codecs than iMovie or iDVD can use - so it's important to find this out.

  • How to import .mpg files into FCE ?

I have succesfully installed the MPEG StreamClip & flip4mac into my iMac. So now I can both play wmv files on my iMac as well as importing wmv files into iMovie & FCE.
But now I have another problem:
    1) How do I play mpg files on my iMac ?
    2) How do I bring import mpg files into FCE ?
    Thank you.

QTPro gives you many more capabilities than the free player, but I don't think you need it to do anything you've described. You DO need the MPEG-2 Playback component. I'd start there, then see if you need any of the options provided by QTPro.
    Hi there,
I have purchased the MPEG-2 Playback component from the Apple Store.
I can now convert the mpg files to mov using the MPEG StreamClip.
However, I cannot playback the original mpg files using QuickTime Player. I can only playback the original mpg files if I click on the mpg file then goto more info & change open with MPEG StreamClip.
But how do I open with QuickTime MPEG-2 playback ? I do not even know where the OS installed the MPEG-2 Playback component to ?
    Thanks

i cannot import mp3 files to imovie - i tried via itunes but the files do not show up and cannot be dragged. any suggestion? thank you

I have the same problem and read your response and cannot make any sense of it.
What is the "apps area of itunes"?
How about this? For some unknown reason, Apple requires your audio clips to be in itunes first , which is ridiculous.
And when you put them in, imovie won't recognize them. That is just bad design all the way around. Mine are in mp3 and something called m3a, and neither is recognized by this terribly designed program
