How to import mts from hard drive

Hello,
I'm looking for some help on importing .mts AVCHD files into FCP X direct from my hard drive. I have a lot of files on the drive that aren't on my Panasonic GH2 memory card so I can't import direct from camera. If I try to put the files back onto a memory card with the Panasonic GH2 directory structure it doesn't see them there either.
I've tried re-wrapping to .mov and the .mov file will play perfectly in quicktime but when I bring it into FCP X it plays back with occasional green frames ever 2-3 seconds. I've checked that the frame rate is correct in the project and with the clip.
I don't mind re-wrapping the files as it's quite quick but even that's no working. I could convert them all to prores but that will take quite some time and once again I'd rather avoid!
It seems that FCP X is still not quite right despite the last two updates. I've had to stick with Premiere Pro for serious work as FCP X isn't reliable yet but I really wanted to test out the new multi cam editing.
Any advice or help would be great.

I've tried re-wrapping to .mov
What did you use to do this? Did you use ClipWrap, Media Converter, something else?

  • How to import songs from external drive to itunes in Leopard?

my computer had issues after installing leopard and i had to erase everything on my computer. since all of my music files from itunes are on my external hard drive, they are safe! but now that i'm starting from scratch on my iBook, how do i tell the computer to import all my music files to my itunes?
i mean, i know how to click one song at a time and import them one at a time but that would take a long time. is there any easier way?
    thanks much

Its very easy. I hope that you have all your music in one folder. Just drag that folder which contains every music you have to the iTunes icon in the dock. iTunes will open and copy every file on its own.

  • IPhoto 08 no longer importing photos from hard drive.

When I attempt to import photos into iPhoto from my laptop's harddrive, it displays an error message saying it cannot locate the files and gives me the option to locate the particular file or skip it. I've tried locating it and it does actually work but then it displays the same error for every single photo and there are sometimes as many as 300 photos that I am trying to import and locating them each individually is very tedious and time consuming.
    Any suggestions or advice?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you attempting to import the photos? Are you dragging them in the Finder from the hard drive into the open iPhoto window? Or are you clicking on a thumbnail in iPhoto and get that message?
If you can see the file in the Finder you should be able to drag it into the open iPhoto window with getting that message.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to install Arch from hard drive?

    Hello
I have an old laptop - Pentium II 266 MHz, 128Mb RAM and I want to install Arch on it.
The problem is that there is no way to boot from this laptop -> floppy is broken, CD drive is not bootable, no available boot options from BIOS to boot from PXE or USB.
So, I found this link useful (but not enough).
I have done everything as described on the upper link, but on the final step 7 I don't know how to proceed.
    What I have got is:
Arch installation CD is in the CD drive.
After loading vmlinuz26 and archiso.img (which is RAM Disk or initrd) it shows this message: "waiting 30 seconds for device /dev/disk/by-label/"
And another message: "ERROR: boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds" and after that it put me in the ramfs prompt.
I try this in ramfs prompt, but without success:
    1. ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/archiso
    2. exit (and try again)
What I want is to tell the installer that it must proceed with the installation files on my CD drive.
    But how to do that?
If it is not possible, then how could I install Arch on this old laptop? Is there any other methods to try?
PS: There is Windows 2000 and Windows 98 installed on this laptop, but I want to install Arch on it. The whole hard drive is one partition.

    Try either of the following:
    * Add archisolabel=LABEL to the kernel line in menu.lst, where LABEL is the filesystem label of the partition where the ISO resides.
    * Add archisodevice=/dev/sdaX to the kernel line in menu.lst, where sdaX should be replaced with the partition where the ISO resides.
    [Edit]
Hmmm, sorry I think I was wrong. With the above, you need also extract the ISO, put the arch/ directory at the root of the partition.
Alternatively, you can put the ISO to the root of that partition, and add img_dev=/dev/sdaX and img_loop=foo-bar.iso. For details, see:
    https://projects.archlinux.org/archiso.git/tree/README
BUT even if it loads, I don't think you will be able to install Arch on the same partition since it's mounted readonly to /bootmnt, (unless, you explicitly add copytoram to the kernel line, in which case, everything is copied to RAM, but since the machine has got only 128MB of RAM, this is not gonna happen). So, you need to put the ISO (or the extracted squashfs images) to a different partition than your target installation partition...
There probably are other things I'm missing... Gotta say this sounds quite challenging.
    [Edit2]
    Bah! Try archisodevice=/dev/sr0 then!

  • IPhoto 6 crashes when importing photos from hard drive

I just installed and updated iPhoto 6. Each time I try to import to the library photos from my hard drive, whether one or many, iPhoto quits. Anybody else have this problem? Any advice?

This is my "fix" and everythings now works fine !!!
I have only tested this fix on my Mac, which is a Powerbook G4 iMac running Mac OS 10.4.8, QuickTime 7.1.3 and iPhoto 6.0.5...
    1. Shutdown any running apps (esp iPhoto/Elements).
    2. Locate the 'Embed Chosen Profile' AppleScript in your Library\Scripts\ColorSync folder on your Mac OS X start-up disk.
    3. Make an alias of the above script (⌘L) and then move the alias to your desktop or other convenient location.
    4. Make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library Folder (I just used Copy 'n' Paste from the Finder).
    5. Locate the problematic photos from within your iPhoto Library's sub-folders and drag them (a folder at a time if necessary) to the 'Embed Chosen Profile' script alias on your desktop.
    6. The Script should run and ask you to select a ColorSync Profile. Navigate to System\Library\ColorSync\Profiles and select the 'sRGB Profile' (this is the profile recommended by Apple).
    7. The script will then embed the selected sRGB ColorSync profile into each image that was contained in the folder that you dragged onto the script icon at step 5.
You will have to run the 'Embed Chosen Profile' script against photos stored in both your Originals and Modified folders within your iPhoto Library Folder. You do not need to run the script against the photos in your Data folder (because the Data folder only contains thumbnail images).
The process wasn't too bad for me, I have over 4000 or so photos. It took about 40 minutes.
Unfortunately the script doesn't process folders that contain sub-folders. So you have to select the 'actual' parent folder that contains the images that you want to fix.
Once all of your images are fixed, you can restart iPhoto and see if it has resolved the problem.
Once Apple issue a proper fix (hopefully an updated version of QuickTime), I will probably revert to my backup iPhoto Library, but for now at least, I'm back up and running!

  • Cannot import files from hard drive

I just got an iPod and downloaded iTunes (for Windows). I imported some music from CDs, but I can't import files from my hard drive. I've tried adding them as files and in a folder. Every time, nothing happens. I don't get an error message, but the songs don't show up anywhere in iTunes or on my iPod. Can anyone help me?
    P.S. They are .aac files.

Can you confirm that you are following one of the methods in the Add to Library section of this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.
In particular, pay attention to the statement that "iTunes adds entries in your iTunes library for the selected files, and copies the files to your iTunes Music folder (if you have that option selected in the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences)."

i don't really know what has gone wrong,Coz I'm new to macs.I have recently bought a macbook Pro. And it comes with iLife 6. i have transferred some of my videos that i have recorded with my digital camera long time ago. I have stored those videos in my PC's hard drive, and now i transfer it from my pc to my new mac by burning them into a DVD as a data DVD using Nero burning software. Then i copy it from the DVD to my mac's hard drive. And then i start to import some videos from my mac's hard drive to iMovie HD. And i start to notice that the videos that i imported have no voice. And i still work on it anyway. When I have finally burned it to the DVD using iDVD. I have found out there is completely no voice for the imported videos when i play it. Please somebody help me out of this. I really like iMovie and i have spent days on it for this matter.
࿇The videos are recorded with a Sony DSC P41(It's just a digital camera but can record videos too)

  • How to get data from hard drive in dead iMac?

I have an old slot-loading iMac (350Mhz G3 blueberry) that just died, probably a dead power supply or something. Won't turn on at all. I don't care about restoring it, I just want to take the hard drive out and grab data from it. I've found instructions for removing the HD ... but any tips on the best/cheapest way to hook it up to get data from it? It's EIDE I believe from what I've read so far. Thanks for any help.

Hey Richard.....Thanks for the reply to my question about my wife's dead iMac.....
Her iMac had been acting up lately, mostly to do with her Outlook Express freezing up in OS9. I dunno if OS9 was freezing or if the application was failing. Regardless, I would have to quit OS9, restart Outlook which at the same time restarted OS9. All would be fine for a while, a day or two and then the scene would repeat itself. But I think that issue is separate from the iMac being "dead". Often we have power outages in the area, more than we should. I had the iMac plugged into a battery backup, some APS product I think it is. I believe it is only good for less than an hour as we have other devices drawing on it too. Most of our power outages are of short duration, just enough to be aggravating, sometimes having to reset clocks, etc...And a couple times, I would have to reset the time and date on the iMac so this told me that the PRAM battery was below minimum voltage. But the iMac would ALWAYS restart, even with the low battery. But the most recent outage, about one hour duration, did in the iMac, somehow or other. I do believe the battery backup basically fully discharged. So I removed the battery, could not find a new battery locally so I drove to the big city and paid the local Apple service dealer a visit. I got ripped big time price wise, embarrassed to say. So I get home, put the battery in the holder, depressed the CMU reset, the powerbutton illuminated as did a green LED by the memory modules for less than three seconds and then quit. I also heard the HD trying to spin up and a high voltage THUMP which I assume is the CRT trying to ignite. If I unplugged the iMac, removed the battery, plug in the power again and hit the power button, the iMac would repeat the same short on period and then quit. So it did not seem to make any difference if there was a battery in place. I read somewhere to pull the battery, pull the AC cord, hold down the power button to dump any current (?) and let the unit sit for 24hrs. After that length of time, I was supposed to replace the battery, depress the CMU reset, wait ten seconds and then feed it AC. Well, when I pressed the power button, I heard life for maybe five seconds, maybe a second longer, then a beep and then it shut down. I pulled the AC cord, pulled the battery, re-inserted the battery, depressed the CMU reset, waited a few seconds, plugged in the AC cord, depressed the power button and I am back at the under three seconds of "power-up" and then nothing, dead, no beep, nothing. I think maybe it is a waste of time trying to mess with this unit, looking for a newer iMac on eBay, the snowball series with the 17" LCD, might be time better spent. Hate throwing stuff away, that's why I am up to my ears in junk, maybe u know that scenario. The wife likes my 19" ACER LCD screen, hooked up to this old dual 800mhz, though she dislikes the noise and the tower. But we both agree the large LCD screen is much easier on our aging eyes than the old iMac CRT. Anyway, I appreciate your help, always GREAT to correspond with an Apple fan.....John Bauer

  • How to sync both from hard drive folders and from Aperture?

I have the following problem. So far I was syncing photos directly from my hard drive folders and everything was fine. Recently I decided to add some photos from Aperture albums. When I did this all previous photos synced from HD were deleted. When I switched back to syncing from folders, the photos from Aperture were deleted. It looks that it is impossible to sync from both sources. Anyone had this problem and found the solution?

I couldn't figure this out on my device, so I just consolidated them into one sync folder by copying photos.
Good thing I have extra disc space.....

*Hi Frances, Welcome (back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
You should always unmount external drives before shutdown. You may need to remount now and hope all is good. It should show up in System Preferences / Start Up Disk.
