hello,
i use to have a Dell Insperon 1501 and i just bought a MacBook for the first time and i am traing to transfer the music from my iPod to my iTunes(MacBook), is there a freeware i can download or a way to do the copying easy?? For example i had Vista on my Dell and i had a program called iDump, which it was farely ok, it transfered all of my music, but none of my playlist. how can i transfer both playlists and music from my iPod to my MacBook??

In Media Player music list, make sure the "Protected" column is displaying. Sort by that column. Any songs that are protected can not be converted to iTunes. You will have to re-rip the CD with the WMP setting to be to not protect the songs.
I had the same problem with album covers and could never fix it. I just gave up. I spoke with people at Apple stores and nothing they suggested worked.

My PC crashed and was pronounced DOA. All library and playlists were and still are on Ipod Classic (20GB). If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.

you can only transfer itunes purchases from the ipod to the pc. to get any other music (etc.) from your ipod by using third party software (there are many threads on this, use the search box or try googling 'ipod to computer')
you can also only delete 'Saved Photos' directly on the iPod. these are photos obtained on the iPod: by screenshot (press the sleep and home button at the same time), saving from email, or from safari (holding your finger on a picture while browsing the web will bring up an option to save it.
any other photos will need to be deleted during the sync process (i.e. deleted from the folder which you sync your photos from)

How do I import all the music and playlists from Windows Media Player into iTunes without creating duplicates?
I add the folder containing all my music to iTunes and all my music arrives nicely. I begin importing playlists and the playlist comes over with all the songs duplicated in my library. Most of my songs are on playlists but some are not.
After adding the music folder (approx 7000 songs) then all the playlists, my iTunes library now contains over 13,000 songs. The increase is due to the duplicates being created as the playlists are added.
If I skip adding the music folder and just add the playlists I get most of my music without as many duplicates but I am missing the songs which are not on any playlist. Thanks.

If it' sprotectged WMA files, no you can't add them.
If they are plain WMA (like RIPped from a CD) you can File -> Add to library and iTunes will import and convert them.

After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD. I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive. How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive? I will also need to move my address book contacts. Any advice will be appreciated.

If the music was purchased from iTunes then you should be able to copy them over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you have iTunes 11 on your computer). The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
