how to import project from Final Cut Pro 7 to X ?

please tell me if FCP 7can create any kind of file that FCP X can read ?
I can read FCP 7 .mov file with QuickTime, but not with FCP X ? what can I do ?
Sould I use a Premiere on PC to make files compatibles in between 2 apple Softwares ?
I have a lot a files that have been created with FCP 7 and I just buy FCP X , so I am Stuck !!!

I've recently messed up my Mac OS X Lion by deleting Aperture, but I need to get my data out of the computer. I've tried to repair it using DU, but it said I needed to backup all my data and reinstall the OS. How do I backup my data to an external drive?
And by the way, I've got an important project in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any way I can back it up (including fxs and positions of the clip) ?

You need to back up 2 folders, Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects which by default are located on your Movies Folder. You can always check by clicking on a clip inside Fianl Cut X and selecting Show in Finder in the contextual menu for the selected clip.

I got sorted apparently I had a recipt for the orignal 4.5 upgrade and this prevented the software updater looking for Final Cut Pro 4.5
solution: I opened Library and went to Receipts and found FinalCutProHD4.5.Pkg I deleted this then I went to software update and bingo problem solved?

I need to transfr a project from final cut pro 6 to an editor with final cut pro 5.
will they have the problem of not being able to open the file? any suggestions out there?

Welcome to the forum!
FCP project files are NOT backward compatible with older versions. But you can export an XML file of your FCP 6 project, then use the XML file to build a new project in FCP 5. Check the manual for details.

You might do some web searching on "FCPx torrent ". I would think that if you have a legitimate copy of FCPx there would be no legal/moral issue with pulling down a 10.0.7 version via bittorrent, but I'm not a lawyer. And of course there are other issues relating to such software but as Tom implies, you can't get an older version from Apple so you'll have to find somebody, somewhere with a 10.0.7 copy that you can install.

Best Way to import items from final cut pro

I have recently edited a video in final cut pro studio 1 and them compressed the file for dvd studio. However when i came to look for my file it was as a quicktime movie that dvd studio could not see. ie when i came to locate the file i dvd studio it did not show up when other files had. I tried rebooting the program but alas it still could not find it.
Can someone tell me a better way or what i have done wrong?

Best way is to export from Final Cut (either self contained or to Compressor) and then encode the video to m2v (using Compressor or other encoder) and audio to AC3 then bring those files into DVD SP

As to why the file is not being seen, are you sure you exported to the path you are looking at? Just try exporting to the desktop to make sure you know where it is.
If you have more details on the workflow it will help (such as how you exported, where to, what types of files, etc.)

Export project from final cut pro to Avid

What are my options to create a workflow that implies doing my last trims on Avid (Adrenaline and Nitris?)
My idea is to create almost ended videos on Final cut Pro 5 by myself and expend a last day or two on an Avid Nitris to do the final touches, mixing audio and output the stuff...
the videos are industrial video and small budget commercials that requires more effects that Final Cut can offer me...

First off, you'll need PRO EXPORT FCP>AVID from www.automaticduck.com.
Then you'll need to recapture all the footage used in the sequence into the Avid, since FCP and Avid capture media differently.

today i make movies with pinnacle studio (windows)
i have pc with blu ray burner in pc (built in)
i would like to buy mac with final cut pro x
is it possible to make movie (high definition) in finacl cut pro x and export to a format which can be imported in pinnacle studio (version 14) without loss of quality
then i would like to burn blu ray on my pc with pinnacle studio
so : make movie with mac and burn HD movie on pc ?

It'd be easier to get Toast 11 Pro and author/burn Blu Ray on your Mac.
BUT, that's extra money you may not want to spend.
Pinnecle, does it import XML files? Well, that may not work anyway.
You'll have to export a QT movie in FCP X that Pinnacle will read.

Thanx for your reaction. I want to edit Final Cut soundtracks in Adobe Audition and import them back again in FCPX.
I found out a good workaround.
First export the project as roles in separate files.
You can import these files in Audition; edit them etc.
Simple as that and no extra costs.

I've exported a project from FCPX into a .fcpxml. Upon trying to import it in Premier Pro 6, an error appears 'file format not supported'. I have searched for possible solutions, but everything I've found is related to FCP 7. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

That is a stickier case.
You can purchase the Calibrated {Q} plug-in to fill that gap. It might be wise to contact them and see if you can get an educational or volume discount.
The no-cost solution is a bit more labor intensive: transcode the footage to a friendlier codec prior via the FCP Media Manager prior to the students leaving the program.

Moving Project from Final Cut Pro X Trial to full program

Im currently running a trial copy of FCP X and will likely buy it. Once I've purchased a copy from the app store, does it recognise the trial version and make that a full version or is it a seperate app (as I suspect).
If its the second one as Im guessing it will be, is there an easy way to transfer a project from the trial version into the main app.

Importing markers from Final Cut Pro 7

I have markers set in FCP7 on a sequence. I want to export that sequence as a Quicktime and import it into AE. How can I import these markers into AE CS4 with my movie?

Not at all. Sorry, this is beyond what AE is capable of. You may however have some luck exporting an FCP XML to Premiere, then import from there in AE. You will have to split at the markers, though. AE doesn't read PPro markers, either.
