How to import Question Slides

Hi, I want to create a question bank using Captivate 2. For
example I will create 100 multiple choice questions in one
captivate project and i will create 100 True False question in
another captivate project. This is for my questin bank. Then i will
import 10 questions from project 1 and 10 questions from project 2
in order to create an examination project. How can i do
that?

Unfortunately this isn't currently possible. There is only
one way to "copy" questions. You create a template with the
questions inside it. Then create movies based on the template. The
alternative to that (which is really the same way) is to use a
"Seed" movie that contains the questions and you repeatedly perform
a Save As in order to create new movies.

a way to import questions from a delimited text file (or excel spreadsheet)
into captivate.
All the questions are simple multiple choice, single answer, four selections per question.
I have hundreds - I'd hate to have to retype them all in one at a time.

Does anyone know if this is a feature in Captivate 5.
Other things I would really like to see in Captivate 5.
Importing and Exporting the graded quiz/test content out of captivate into another
application/ form. Such as xml, tab delimited, excel spreadsheet,
Adobe pdf, Word document or another format. Our current content
developement systems allows us to (when publishing) do this.
1> exclude questions from the Published content
(exclude section questions, or final test content)
2> produce different test versions from question banks
3> Produce a PDF paper test for when we want to train in a classroom setting
4> Select which questions we want to produce
5> Import questions from a pre-defined format. To note: when we do this the system also makes us define a unique interaction id so that the import will update existing questions.
I know this will NOT work for some of the more sophisticated questions, But for the simple Mulitple choice, true/false, fill in the blank. etc..
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE..
It would also be NICE TO HAVE THE abiliy to PROFILE versions of the SAME Course WITH OUT REPRODUCING / DUPLICATING / REPEATING THE ENTIRE COURSE PRESENTATION.
Such as
"INSTRUCTOR TAUGHT TRAINING"
"WEB TRAINING"
"PAPER TEST A"
"PAPER TEST B"
ETC...
LASTLY: if we can not export the QUIZ content. Can an excel spreadsheet LIKE INTERFACE be used to edit certain aspects of the questions.
Such as the InteractionId which is sent to the LMS ('cmi.interactions.0.id'). My developer team says it is real difficult and time consuming
to track down interactionIds and then maintain them in a perfect way.

How to import powerpoint slides as photos

Hi there
Someone has sent me a powerpoint presentation from a windows PC with lots of photos as slides, which I'm trying to then use in an iMovie film- they're opening in Keynote fine. However I need them to be treated as normal photo files in order to import and use them in iMovie, I'm presuming the best way to do this is get them out of Keynote and into Aperture.
Is there a way that I can do this (i.e. extract photos off the slides and resave as photo files), or will I have to ask the person to re-burn all the photos separately?

Two things, if keynote "sees" all the elements on the page, you might be able to just select the images and drag them to Aperture.
You could print as a PDF and import it into Aperture.
But if the file was compressed, the images might be too low of resolution to be useful, you may have to get the images separately, anyway.

How do I change the font color for numbering in a matching question slide?

I have a grey image on a question slide, but the numbering for the answers in a matching question is defaulting to grey so learners can't see to match up. How can I change the font color of these choices? Thanks.

You probably edited the master slide without changing the theme colors? Check the Object Style for Answers in the Object Style Manager. The numbering takes the same color as the answer text.
All depends on the Theme colors palette that you are using. Normally Question answers use the darkest tint of the fourth color. I started blogging about color management, but description of the use of Theme colors will be published later.

How to make a question slide impossible to pass if unaswered

Hi
I am using captivate 7 trail, and soon will buy the full version if this feature is possible inside captivate.
I am building a quiz, and I want the user to first, answer, see if he was right, and then go to the next question. I don't want the user to have the possibility to leave any question unanswered.
In evere question slide there is a "next" button, and a "submit" button. The user can go back or forward and skip questions. Is there a way to keep the user in this question slide untill answered, or hide the "back" and "next" buttons" untill the questions is answered.
This is really important for the way I'm using Captivae and it's a big deal breaker for us.
Any help will be appreciated.

Michael, it was not mentioned, but that Next button is necessary if Preview will be included. That Next button is a Skip button during the Quiz, but needed during Review. You can also play with the stack order and hide the Next button under the Clear button.

Captivate 8: How to add a button onto a question slide to invoke some java script?

I have some question slides where the user has to guess an item on a picture. Because the picture is very small, I want to add a zoom button which calls a function in my LMS to popup the picture in a bigger window. I could not find a way to add a button where I can call java script, so I tried to solve this by using a smart shape with option "use as button" set and adding the java script action. This works fine for the popup but now the submit button on the slide no longer works. Clicking the submit button just disables the answers and stays on the current slide even if I did not click onto the shape button previously. How can I achieve my goal to display a bigger picture of an image on my slide on the users request?
I also tried the "ImageView" widget, but this is not a practicable solution.

I think I found the solution: In the "Timing" tab for the shape there is an option "Pause After" which was set to 1,5 seconds. I cleared this options and now the submit button is working again.

Question Slide Templates and importing

I have a template with question slides and I've
saved it as a cp file. I then attempted to import slides and
objects from another project. It appears to be importing, and then
the only slides I have are the originals. None of the new slides
appear. ???

Creating a template is simple. You may create one from
scratch or you may choose to take any existing project and save it
as a template.
To create one from scratch, click File > Record/Create
> New Project... > Other. You then set the size and whatnot
and eventually end up in the editing environment. You then add the
elements that you wish to have in your template. Once your template
looks like you want, you follow what is outlined in the next
section.
To save any existing project as a template, click File >
Save As... and when the Save As dialog appears, click the drop-down
menu at the bottom and choose "Adobe Captivate Templates (*.cptl).
I'm not sure what you mean with "Additional flexibility with
question slide template with Captivate 3". There is no "template"
per se. What we see with Captivate 3 and question slides is that we
may now copy, paste, import and export Question slides. We may also
randomize them by creating question pools and drawing random
questions based on the pool. We may also shuffle answers as well as
customize the buttons used. But that's about it as far as I can
recall. Perhaps if you are able to articulate more about what it is
you are wanting to do, we might better answer the question.

How to import from a slider to itunes?

Does anyone know how to import my entires itunes files from my corsair slider to itunes in my new computer?

Copy the files from the Corsair Slider onto your computer, preferably to the folder that iTunes is using for your iTunes Library. On my Windows 7, this is;
for one-artist albums: Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\<artist name>\<album name>
for multi-artist (compilations): Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Compilations\<album name>
So if you are importing Album Two by Artist A and you already have albums in your iTunes Library by Artist A, simply drop the new songs into a folder named Album Two. That is, Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Artist A\Album Two\<songs>
Then, either drag those new folders, or individual songs into the open iTunes window or, from within iTunes, use File/Add File to Library or File/Add Folder to Library as appropriate.

How to preview effects on question slide?

Problem: How to preview effects (such as drop shadow) applied to objects (jpg) on a question slide.
Situation: Quiz consisting of say 5 random questions pulled from a pool of 50 multi choice questions.
Question Pool Panel:
I am constructing the question slides in Quizzing workspace.
I can view the slide and add the questions and answers + any jpg images that may be required.
If I want to add a drop shadow to an image I select the object (img) and switch to the Effects panel.
I add the drop shadow and can make the adjustments BUT the effect is not visible on the slide.
The Live Preview button is greyed out and unavailable.
Preview options from the toolbar are....
F3 slide.... Does not show the effect.
F4 project.... would take too long AND would not be sure of viewing the slide to which I had added the image effect.
F12 browser.... shows the whole project with 5 random questions but not necessarily the specific slide.
I switch to Filmstip panel:
More preview options are available...
F8 this slide... If I select a blank random Question slide it pulls a question from the pool of 50 but not necessarily the one on which I am working.
F10 next 5 slides.... same problem as F8
Unacceptable workaround:
I can create another "test" pool containing one question.
Copy the edited slide to the "test pool and preview it from there with F8 or F10
A lot of extra work....
So the effect is working and would be applied to the finished quiz.... BUT.... I cannot (without a lot of P'ing about) preview and adjust the effects applied to a question slide.
Does anyone have any ideas?

If you want to test the effects on a particular slide from your Question Pool, and you don't want to have to publish all slides to see it, just right click the slide from the question pool, and select Move Question To > Main Project.
Then you'll have the ability to preview the effects as with any other slide. When you know the slide is completed, just move it back into the Question Pool.

How do you play a single question slide?

I am working on a multiple choice question slide, and I want to play it, and it only, to test it out. I have the options : play slide, project, next fives slides, from this slide. When I select "play slide", Captivate somehow forgets the slide is interactive, and "plays" the slide without waiting for me to answer the question or interact with it. How can I get the slide to act as if it were being played as part of the whole object ?

You did note that there are four types of preview.
Play this slide
Next X Slides
Project
In Web Browser
When Play this slide is used, it is really only intended to check timing of objects to see if they are appearing and disappearing at the proper times. As you have noted it's not interactive.
If you really want to play just the one slide, I would edit the preferences and configure the number of slides from 5 to 1 for the preview. Then use the "Next 1 Slides" option. (It will change depending on the number you opted to use.)

Review mode: how to show only the question slides again

I have a project that has the following order:

3. multiple choice question #1
4. content screen

Quiz Results screen
At the Quiz Results screen, if the learner wants to review the lesson, s/he is forced to go through most of the content screens.
Is there any way to make it so that the learner only reviews the actual multiple choice screens? It sure would be handy to have a 'Hide non-assessment slides during Review' option.

A 'quick and dirty' solution if you are on 7.0.1. There are more elegant ways but it will work.
Create a shared action that has to be triggered on each slide by the On Enter event, starting with the first question slide. It has to be a conditional action, with two condtions that have both to result in true, so they are combined with AND.
IF cpInReviewMode is equal to 1 AND
        cpInfoCurrentSlideType is equal to "Normal slide"
       Go to Next Slide
ELSE
        Continue
