How to import RAW + Adobe Camera Raw settings to iPhoto?

Hi folks,
I'm trying to import into iPhoto RAW files (Canon .CR2) that I have adjusted in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
The problem is that, iPhoto is not picking up the ACR adjustments that are contained in the side-car .xmp file; it's just showing the RAW file 'as-shot'.
For example, if the RAW file's white balance is off, and I correct it in ACR, then, once imported, iPhoto shows the image with the 'incorrect' white balance, as if I hadn't corrected it at all.
Can anyone confirm if this is the correct behaviour of iPhoto?
Is there any way to have iPhoto take the ACR adjustments into account?
I'd be grateful for your help.

P.S. I think I have iPhoto '09—it's the immediate predecessor of the very latest version that was released fairly recently.

This is the correct behaviour. iPhoto will understand the RAW file from the camera, but it will not handle ACR adjustments. If you want to deal with the pic in iPhoto, you'll have to render it to an image format first. You can maintain quality by using a lossless format (.tif, lossless jpg).
That may not be ideal. If so, and you need image editing on the ACR file, Lightroom is probably your best bet

Canon Eos 7D Mark ii was launched after we released ACR 8.7 RC. So, that’s the reason it is not included in the RC version. However, it is on our radar and hoping to add it in an upcoming update itself.

How can I invoke Adobe Camera Raw and obtain a TIFF?

Hi,
I would like to hand in a DNG or other RAW file to CameraRaw (from a program I am writing) and ask for the resulting TIFF after applying the settings present in the xml sidecar. How can I do this?

Have you looked into scripting Bridge?
Also, have you considered Lightroom? A plugin could do it there.
How about Photoshop droplets?
(I don't *think* ACR can be exercised without at least one of the above-mentioned contexts).

Since photoshop cs5 can only use up to camera raw 6.7 and the Nikon D7100 requires at least camera raw 7.4, photoshop cs5 won't open those files directly.

You can though, use the 8.6 DNG Converter to convert the D7100 nefs to dng copies, which then photoshop cs5 should open.

How do I install Adobe Camera Raw? I keep getting an error message each time it downloads. I am using CS5 on a PC. I used to have ACR, but then when I got a new PC, suddenly it was gone. Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

Open with External Editor Adobe Camera Raw = HOW?

When I export a RAW file to the External Editor (I've chosen Photoshop CS3) I would like for it to open in Adobe Camera Raw, just like any RAW file that I open in Photoshop outside of Aperture.
However it bypasses Adobe Camera Raw and opens directly in Photoshop.
I have the "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files" and "for Supported RAW files" boxes checked in the Photoshop Prefs.
I see some chatter about Hot folders and Automator around here, but no definitive answer/workaround.
If Aperture doesn't support exporting to Adobe Camera Raw, it is a HUGE leg-up for Lightroom in the RAW workflow department.
Please tell me I'm missing a checkbox somewhere... Thanks.

You're not missing a checkbox, you're missing a fundamental issue of how Aperture (and LightRoom for that matter) work.
When you use the Open in External Editor command, Aperture will convert the RAW file, apply any adjustments you have made, and send the resulting PSD or TIFF file to the external editor.
The original file is NOT sent and there is no option to do so. Why not? Because Aperture Versions do not exist as discrete image files - the adjustments are shown on-the-fly each time you view it, saving on the space taken up by multiple TIFF/PSD/JPEG files for each Version. As ACR uses a totally different RAW conversion & adjustment engine from Aperture, Aperture wouldn't be able to display any changes made in ACR without including the entire conversion engine of ACR, which Adobe might not be too happy about...
In other words, if you want to use a different RAW convertor you will have to export the Master, convert it in the other app, and then import the resulting 'normal' image file back into Aperture. The same is true for LightRoom.

How to get Adobe Camera RAW loaded so I can open RAW files from a Panasonic LX7?

I opened these images two days ago. Now I get a message that the CS6 Photoshop does not recognize this type of file. I went online and again(3rd time)downloaded Camera RAW 7.3 and tried installing and opening the images.
Once again - same thing.
Now I have something called a DNG converter on the machine and I don't know what it is.
I opened it and tried to get to the LX7 files in my computer I can see in Bridge - and the DNG converter does not show the files at all.
I was doing just fine with CS5 - then I bought this piece of crap because I could not get an update for CS5 to open the Panasonic Lumix LX7 images. So, I wasted $200 on CX6 only to find I can't get my images opened.
I hate photoshop more every damn day
First, took three days and over 9 hours wasted on hold for Adobe phone help - and finally got a guy on to help me register Photoshop CS6 - and he could not get it to register. Finally after a day & a half and hours of continually cutting and pasting from teh online computer to the main computer that does not hook up to the Internet I got CS6 to work.
Then, I opened the Panasonic LX7 RAW images twice after downloading and installing Adobe Camera RAW 7.1 and 7.3 - and now the machine does not recognize the files and tells me to go to http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111
I went there and have downloaded the Camera Raw 7.1 and 7.3 four different times now and tried installing it - and Still can't open the damn files. I keep getting the same "photoshop cannot open this file" message and teh same referenc to teh above.
How can I get this piece of Shiz to work???

The first thing I would suggest is, in Photoshop, go to Help/About Plug-Ins and click on Camera Raw to verify what version is installed. There should only be one version listed, and listed only once. If there are more, then you need to get rid of the extras.
The DNG converter is a program that will create DNG (digital negative) copies of your raw images. It takes all of the raw image data and copies it to a new file format. The raw data is unmodified, and the DNG file is a standardized and open documented file format. But the DNG converter will not list the actual files. You choose the folder that contains your original raw images, and then the converter will put the copies wherever you choose to put them. But if your camera is supposed to be supported by the latest version of Camera Raw, I don't know if converting will solve the problem. It won't hurt anything; your raw files are still intact.
It would be helpful if you could describe your computer; operating system, how much RAM, a little information to allow the experts (of which I am NOT one) to help you isolate and solve this problem.

Adobe Camera Raw Save Settings and Lens Profile Corrections Help

I have been fooling around with Adobe Camera Raw’s (ACR) ability to save settings so that I can apply them to other images. I’m able to set things such as clarity, vibrance, camera profile etc. What I want to do is enable Lens Profile Corrections and have it automatically detect the lens information for future images, apply no distortion corrections and apply vignetting and chromatic aberration corrections. However, when I try this, the Lens profile sticks on “Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM” (which is what I used for creating the settings to be saved) regardless of the lens used for the image that I am applying the settings to. Is there a way do this?
I’m using Photoshop CS6 and ACR current version.

You should see an Adobe Standard profile and perhaps an ACR x.x profile for your camera, but Adobe does not make Camera-centric profiles (landscape, portrait, camera neutral, etc) for most cameras unless they are Canon DSLRs, Nikon DSLRs, one Leica and a few Pentax cameras.
On a Vista/Win7 system you can verify what models of cameras are supported by Adobe by looking for profiles in:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
The lens profiles are in:
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles
There are comparable directories on Win XP.

Can not find folder to load camera raw presets on MAC. I have searched and says to drop in the library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings folder but I do not have this folder or can no locate it. I get as far as lib/appsupoort/adobe/camera raw

I just made the switch to mac. I am have installed all the new PS6 CC and bridge and I am not trying to add some presets to my ACR but when I search for the folder to place them it is not there. From what I researched it says it should be under camera library/application support/adobe/camera raw/settings but I can only get to library/application support/adobe/ and then there are two different camera raw options I have checked both and there are not settings folder. In finder click on Go then hold down the Option key and then click on Library

All versions of Adobe Camera RAW including the latest 7.3 import .CR2 images with a greenish / orange color cast.
Tested on 7D, and 5D III
Makes Hardwood floors, and flesh tones look abysmal.
Canon's Digital Photo Professional renders the colors fine, as does ACDSee 5.0 Pro (when viewing) Exporting from ACDSee however is another story as things look even worse than Adobe. DPP can export perfectly.
Changes to Color Gammut / Space have little or no effect.

How to change preference setting in Photoshop CC 2014 to not automatically lauch Adobe Camera Raw when opening Nikon raw .NEF file

When I launch Photoshop CC 2014 and then open a .nef raw file it launches Adobe Camera Raw and I click Open Image, then I "Convert to Smart Object" then launch Filter > Camera Raw Filter. Is there a preference somewhere for raw files that just bring you right into Adobe Photoshop without stopping at Camera Raw first? Thanks!

Ah! Okay, makes sense now. I just learned tonight that some features are not available when using Camera Raw as a Smart Filter. One being Lens Profile Correction. So it makes sense to have have Camera Raw open right off the bat to make some tweaks first then continue on. I found the below on the Adobe website. Thank you so much!!
Note: The following features are not available when using Camera Raw as a Smart Filter (that are normally available in Camera Raw), primarily because they don’t make sense in the filter context: Workflow options and preferences, crop and straighten tools, rotation tools (rotate left/right buttons), snapshots, camera and lens profile corrections.

How do you crop outside the image in Adobe Camera Raw?

I would like to create a crop of a portion of an image in Adobe Camera Raw AND include some area outside that image. Is there a way to do this.

You can't do that in ACR, but you can if you open it in Photoshop and use the crop tool there.
