How to import selected clips from iPhotos?

When you open iMovie, it asks you to sync movies from your iPhotos. The problem is it takes every single clips from iPhotos and import them. Take too long and more difficult to work since there clips in there you don't want on the new project.
Is there a way to pick and choose which clip to import directly from iPhoto?
(Beside you have to copy the particular clip(s) to a folder and manually import it)

Ah but it does work!
Yes, emptying the trash in iMovie 6 does remove a Media file if NO REMAINING CLIP relies on that file. So if you imported some clips and discarded them, their Media files would be discarded when you emptied the trash, reducing the size of the project. That's because No OTHER clip needed those files.
But if you had split each of the clips in half that you imported, then discarded the second half of each, no reduction in size would have occurred when you emptied the trash.
Unlike iMovie 4, iMovie 6 never removes just a PORTION of a Media file (the source file for a clip, stored in the Media folder inside the project). So if a Media file contains 30 minutes of video that you split at 1 minute, then discard the remaining 29 minute clip, the entire 30 minutes is retained by iMovie. The 30 minute Media file is never reduced in size. That's so iMovie's non-destructive editing feature can restore your one minute clip to its original length.
So the rule is that a Media file is discarded only when you discard the LAST clip using that file.
Try it!

  • How to import selected images from iPhoto 11 into Elements 9?

How do I import selected images or events from iPhoto 11 into albums in Elements 9 Organizer?  I don't want all my thousands of images in Elements.  Both iPhoto and Elements 9 are updated.

I don't use iPhoto much at all, but you can set it to use PSE (or any other real image editing app) to edit the images you store in it. Check the iPhoto Prefs (command comma) and look at the General tab. Select PSE or any other app in the "Edit photo:" pop-up menu. That way you can still keep iPhoto for storage/filing and PSE for editing. Hope that helps.

  • I don't want to import video clips from iPhoto!

iMovie automatically imports video clips from iPhoto, and I don't need or want this to be done. I don't want to delete or move those clips from iPhoto, so is there a way to prevent the automatic transfer?

Go to your Hotmail account on the web (NOT in mail), make a new folder (or folders) for the mail you want to keep and move the messages into it.
Mail (and all other email clients) will download all messages in the inbox unless previously downloaded. That means downloaded with the client you are attaching now.
Until that is done do not setup the account in mail.

  • How do I import video clips from iPhoto if it doesn't recognize the video clips in iMoive

I'm trying to make a movie using iMovie and I recorded some clips using a Sony Digital Camera and iMovie won't let me upload the video clips from iPhoto. I try to import them but when i try to click on the file, it won't let me. Like its not bold like other files (It will let me upload video that were taken with my iPhone) I have iMovie 09.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks!

Do you plan to put each video clip in iDVD to be playes separately?  If so then here's how:
1 - open iDVD and select your theme.
2 - click on the Media button at the bottom right and then on the Photo button at the top.
3 - in the search window type in ".mov" (or the extension of the video clips you plan to use).
4 - all of the video clips with the extension you entered will be displayed and you can drag them into the menu area at the left.
Another way would be to put all of the video clips in an Album and click on that album to view and drag the clips:
Remember, the order that they are added to the menu will be the order that the buttons will highlight when you scroll thru the buttons with a DVD player remote.
This will give you a menu with a separate button for each video clip (up to 12 in a menu with some themes).
If you want to play all of the clips one after another you could create a slideshow in iDVD with the "+" button at the bottom and drag the video clips into the slideshow as you would still photos.  Set the slide duration to anything but manual and don't apply any transition.
That will let you play all of the clips sequentially.

  • How to import AVCHD clips from HD camcorder?

How I can import AVCHD clips from Sony HDR-TG1 with best possible quality to iMovie '09?
Camera records clips as 1080i format but when I import them to iMovie '09 quality are cr*p. I have a same problem with iMovie '08. This has something to do with interlacing and single field processing but is there any workaround (other than using PC)?

Preview playback may not be too good since QuickTime in general doesn't seem to deinterlace very well (when it deinterlaces at all).
Quality of exported footage varies greatly according to whether or not you select +just the right+ export settings. See this thread for details:

If exporting to SD (particularly, to iDVD), see here:

I'm planning to update this guide soonish with information on how to end up with 720p60 output from 1080i60 input (i.e. in effect treat the input as 1920x540 at 60 frames/sec progressive, turning it into 1280x720 at 60 frames/set progressive).

  • How to import Originals only from iPhoto?

Hello! I'm thinking about to switch from iPhoto to Aperture.
I'd like to import only the "originals" from iPhoto 08, let all the modified files alone, just to kind of start from scratch with post processing afterwards if needed (this is a) to avoid the doubled files, b) to get better pictures because of better software and knowledge).
I read alot in this forum - wow, thanks for all the shared wisdom! I did not find the answer to my question.
One more question: Can I import the "events" from iPhoto so, that they stay sorted the same way??
    Thanks for any help!
    Don

As a workaround I set all pictures in iPhoto back to original, then imported the whole library. So far for me the question is answered

  • How do you import selected albums from iphoto?

I'm new to Aperture, and want to start by importing only selected (ie my best) albums from iPhoto.
I've tried File > Import > Show iPhoto Browser, and can highlight the album I want to import. But then what do I do?

In my test, they came in managed. IMHO it's not a good idea to reference files inside the iPhoto library. I think it's a disaster waiting to happen.

  • How to import one Event from iPhoto?

I discovered an Event that did not import. In Aperture Import, there is an option to show the iPhoto Browser, that allows you to select an Event or individual photos. But then what? How do you initiate the import? There seems to be no button or anything to activate the import.

Select an Event or Photo and drag it to the target Project in the Aperture window.

  • IPhoto will not import video clips from iPhoto

I plugged in my iPhone to my computer.  I opened iPhoto to import the photos from my camera role.  It imported the photos just fine up said "The following files could not be imported.  The file is in an unrecognized format."  It is all the video files I took with my iPhone.  Never had this problem before.  I recently switched macs from my desktop to a new iMac.  I was having problems with iphoto not liking the video I previously had in iPhoto.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few videos into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • How to import movie clips from DVD?

    Hi,
A really stupid question, and possibly this has been asked before, but I am at my wits end--is there a way I can import video clips to iMovie from a DVD disc that contains video files? When I try to select 'import movies' from the file menu, it won't import the clips because the video files contained within the dvd are VOB. IFO. and BUP. formats, and the iMovie will only read MPEG or mov. Is there a way I can somehow import these clips by changing the setting somewhere in the iMovie or am I to require some other type of application to convert these files before I can successfully import them?
I'm really only trying to make a simple short clip, nothing big. The longest it will probably be is at most 5 mins. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Is there a way I can somehow import these clips by changing the setting somewhere in the iMovie or am I to require some other type of application to convert these files before I can successfully import them?
Not by changing a setting. Multiplexed MPEG-2 content is not iMovie '08 "edit" compatible. Either the content is recognized as being on a compatible camcorder and converts the content to an "edit" compatible compression format or you must manually convert the multiplexed MPEG-2 content yourself for import at the "Finder" file level.
    Any suggestions?
If your VOB files are not encrypted (i.e., on a homemade DVD), then they can be copied to your hard drive. Once on your hard drive, you can use any of several applications to perform your conversion. Cost and work flow depend on the application you use. I normally recommend a new user try something like iSquint for their initial attempt. It is free and simple to use. Simply drop the copied VOB file containing the video you want to the application work area, set the "Optimize for TV" option, and press the "Start" button. This will produce an MPEG4/AAC file that can be edited. Other applications can produce alternative compression formats for editing but are either more difficult to use or are not totally free. My preference would by MPEG Streamclip here, but it requires a $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component and s much more difficult to use since it has many more options and capabilities. Visual Hub (iSquint's "big brother") is as simple to use, but is a "pay-ware" application. In any case, the free application should allow you to do what you want and then you can decide if you need/want to invest more in the way of cost, time, and/or effort in a better application.
I use Quicktime pro as well to export any file to a version that iMovie will work with
Unfortunately, QT Pro will not work in this case since QT Pro is not conversion compatible with multiplexed MPEG-2 formats. Even if you add the $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component, it will only convert the video portion of the file. Use an MPEG-based, third-party application like those mentioned above or FFmpegX (donation-ware/difficult to use) or MPEG2 Works (Pay-ware that also requires the $20 MPEG-2 component, etc.

  • How to import a clip from another Imovie movie ?

I have imported with Imovie HD in two distinct movies some clips that I wish to merge in one larger movie.
What is the simplest way to merge two movies ?
What is the simplest way to import just one clip from another movie ?
    Thanks !!!

Well I found where those clips were trashed too. Its not the iMovie trash can as indicated by the help text! Its the user trash can. Here is how I found my clips in case this is useful for anyone else.
    find . -name '*.dv' -exec ls -l {} \; | grep Trash
    -rw-r--r-- 1 aspencer aspencer 105600000 11 Dec 10:53 ./.Trash/Clip 251 copy.dv

    -rw-r--r-- 1 aspencer aspencer 66960000 11 Dec 10:43 ./.Trash/Clip 263.dv

    -rw-r--r-- 1 aspencer aspencer 40200000 11 Dec 10:44 ./.Trash/Clip 266.dv
To see the total space taken up by these files I did:
    find . -name '*.dv' -exec ls -l {} \; | grep Trash | awk 'BEGIN { space = 0}; { space += $5}; END { print "total space",space}'
    total space 1794600000
So I just have to empty the main trash in order to recover from my first copy/paste effort to move clips from one project to another. BTW is there a way to copy them to the clips pane and not the timeline?

  • When I import selected photos from iPhoto I am getting double images in Aperture...why???

Does anyone know why I am getting double images when I import from iPhoto to Aperture?

I found this under Aperture help:
Sometimes you get two copies of an image imported from iPhoto, and the pair is stacked. Though this might surprise you, the reason is very simple. Whenever you edit in iPhoto, it preserves the original and makes the changes to a copy. When you import to Aperture, you get both the original and the copy from iPhoto.
If you want the originals only, here's a quick way to remove the copies by using the "iPhoto-edited" keyword:
Click any image in the project to select it.
    Choose Edit > Select All.
    Choose Stacks > Unstack.
In the browser's search box (to the right of the magnifying glass), type: iPhoto-edited
This will cause only iPhoto-edited images to appear in the Browser. Now you can relocate or delete them as you please.
Note: If you have manually edited the contents of the iPhoto Library or have used any third-party software that sub-manages or attempts to minimize the size of the iPhoto Library (by deleting originals, for example) then you need to exercise caution. Rather than delete the files immediately, consider temporarily storing them in another project until you're sure you have everything you want to keep in the main project.
    Good luck.
