How to import selected images from iPhoto 11 into Elements 9?

How do I import selected images or events from iPhoto 11 into albums in Elements 9 Organizer?  I don't want all my thousands of images in Elements.  Both iPhoto and Elements 9 are updated.

I don't use iPhoto much at all, but you can set it to use PSE (or any other real image editing app) to edit the images you store in it. Check the iPhoto Prefs (command comma) and look at the General tab. Select PSE or any other app in the "Edit photo:" pop-up menu. That way you can still keep iPhoto for storage/filing and PSE for editing. Hope that helps.

  • Importing RAW images from iPhoto to Elements 8

I just successfully downloaded Elements 8 (the free trial version). I have an iMac, and until now have used iPhoto for all of my photo file storage and editing needs.
I need to import some of my original RAW files from iPhoto into Elements 8. How is this accomplished?
I got the images I wanted into Elements 8 by selecting all the images I wanted to import, then dragging and dropping. The result? The images all got imported into Elements 8, but they are showing up there as jPegs.
The images were originally brought into iPhoto as RAW files, and I never converted them into jPegs, so they should still be RAW files in iPhoto. Why, then, do they show up in Elements 8 as jPegs? And how do I import directly from iPhoto into Elements 8 and keep the images being imported as RAW files?
Any insights/help would be greatly appreciated.

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • How to import selected clips from iPhotos?

When you open iMovie, it asks you to sync movies from your iPhotos. The problem is it takes every single clips from iPhotos and import them. Take too long and more difficult to work since there clips in there you don't want on the new project.
Is there a way to pick and choose which clip to import directly from iPhoto?
(Beside you have to copy the particular clip(s) to a folder and manually import it)

    Ah but it does work!
Yes, emptying the trash in iMovie 6 does remove a Media file if NO REMAINING CLIP relies on that file. So if you imported some clips and discarded them, their Media files would be discarded when you emptied the trash, reducing the size of the project. That's because No OTHER clip needed those files.
But if you had split each of the clips in half that you imported, then discarded the second half of each, no reduction in size would have occurred when you emptied the trash.
Unlike iMovie 4, iMovie 6 never removes just a PORTION of a Media file (the source file for a clip, stored in the Media folder inside the project). So if a Media file contains 30 minutes of video that you split at 1 minute, then discard the remaining 29 minute clip, the entire 30 minutes is retained by iMovie. The 30 minute Media file is never reduced in size. That's so iMovie's non-destructive editing feature can restore your one minute clip to its original length.
So the rule is that a Media file is discarded only when you discard the LAST clip using that file.
    Try it!

  • How can I import selected photos from iPhoto into Premiere Elements on the Mac?

I run Premiere Elements on a Mac (Lion O/S). I have more than 13,000 photos in iPhoto that I would like to be able to access from Premiere (to include shots relevant to the video I am compiling).  How do I do this?
I also have Photoshop Elements but not yet installed it since I do not want to replicate all these photos - will consume too much hard drive space.
I look forward to your advice.
    Thanks

The way I do this on my iMac : I select the required photos in iPhoto, then I export them on a specific folder I create for the video,
generally a subpart of the area where I have captured my HDV footage with Premiere Elelements.
Then, I import these specific pictures in my Premiere Elements project.
For Photoshop Elements, it has 2 parts : the organizer of your library, which requires to create a copy of your photos, and the modifier
which you can use as a complement to iPhoto only to modify your pictures with  possibilities given by Photoshop.
As I have enough space on external hard drive, I use Photoshop and iPhoto to have permanently a back-up copy of my pictures.
It was my choice related to my configuration.
    Bonne chance.

  • How can I import selected images from a folder instead of the whole folder in iPhoto 9.5.2?

    Hi there,
I was trying to help my parents import some photos from a folder they have created with photos from their holiday. They only want to import select images from this folder into iPhoto. I said it would be easy and they can do it in 2 ways. First, they can drag and drop selected photos from their folder into iPhoto - and this works for them. However, more convieniently, they can click file>import to Library and then select the photos they want by going into the folder... Well that's how it works on my iPhoto '11 at least. When they showed me their screen via Skype (they are running iPhoto 9.5.2), when they click import to library, and try to go into the folder containing their photos, it imports the whole thing and there appears to be no way that they can enter the folder to select just a few photos from what I could see.
Does anyone know anything aout this problem?
    Cheers.

What view are using in the Import dialogue. Column view might be easiest to navigate.

  • How do I get images from Aperture into print shop for mac?

    Friends,
I have Print Shop for Mac and Aperture. How do I get images from Aperture into Print Shop? I'musing managed images with previews. Is there any option besides exporting to the desktop and importing?
    Thanks!
    Steve

if you have previews turned on in Aperture and they're all genereated, you can simply drag-n-drop them into any application (just about). drag-n-drop is essentially the same as copy/paste as long as the application is setup to accept "drops" onto its windows.
otherwise, if you're running Leopard (10.5) as your version of Mac OS X, when you import (or whatever it is in PrintShop), you should get a file selection dialog. from here, scroll down the left-hand side bar set of icons. near the bottom is a group called "Media". click on the triangle to open the group, choose Photos, and from here you should see an Aperture icon. click this and you'll see your whole library (or at least the portion of it that you have previews generated for. select the photo you want and viola!

  • Cannot select images from iPhoto

I made a desktop AIR application that allows users to upload images to our server. Everything works except for Mac people trying to select images from iPhoto.
This is how I have the file selection setup:
    private var fileRefList:FileReferenceList;
    private var imageFileTypes:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Images (*.jpg, *.jpeg)", "*.jpg; *.jpeg");
    private var allImageTypes:Array = new Array(imageFileTypes);
You can see the problem in the screenshot is that the select button won't enable, even though images are selected. Any ideas?

This is an example of the problem. It actually works the first time you select iphoto images, but if you try it again the select button (in the file browser window) is disabled.

  • How can I access images from IPhoto on my Mac to Photoshop CS6

How can I access images from IPhoto library on my Mac to Photoshop CS6?  I enable jpg with format "Photoshop" and this is what comes up -  "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

Photoshop is not a format.  It's an application.
What you are looking at are not true JPEGs, just iPhoto's "tease" representations of the hidden images it swallowed, as explained above.

  • Elements importing photos from iPhoto into nonsensical folders - how do I convert events or import into dated folders from iPhoto into elements?

Please help! Can't seem to find the answer on the website or anywhere else online. I don't see an option to convert events from iPhoto into folders in elements. Any advice would be appreciated.

The whole point of a program like organizer is to ignore the folders and use tags and categories instead. However, if you want to preserve the iphoto events then the way to do it is not to use "from iphoto" but rather to export each event from iphoto separately, organize your folders how you want them, where you want them and then use "from files and folders" instead.

  • How can I pull photos from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them?

Uploaded some photos on my new Apple Mini (I'm converting from Windows to Mac) and they uploaded fine - but then I couldn't see how to get them from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them. Surely they must automatically save but if so, where??

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • How to import edited images from iPhone 6

I am able to import unedited images from my iPhone 6 into PSE 11.  However if I have edited them in the iPhone Photos app, PSE 11 sees only the unedited original.  Windows Pictures also seems to import only the originals.  Apple's article at support.apple.com/en-us/ht203612 says they use Adobe's xmp for editing, and it lists PSE as one of the programs that support xmp.  So how do I get to the edited images from PSE?

Yes. Use iPhoto Library Manager to move the photos/albums/events between libraries. This gets all the versions and all the metadata. It's the only way to do this.

  • How do I put something from iPhoto into iCloud?

I'm trying to put photos from iPhoto into iCloud and am not sure how to access iCloud?

If you have OS X 10.7.5 or higher and iPhoto 9.2.2 or higher, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign into your iCloud account, check Photos and click Options and enable My Photo Stream.  Then in iPhoto, select the photos you want to add to photo stream, then do any of the following:
Click the Share button in the toolbar, click iCloud, and click My Photo Stream.
Click the Add To button in the toolbar, click iCloud, and click My Photo Stream
Drag the photos to iCloud in the Source list, and click My Photo Stream.
Choose Share > iCloud, and click My Photo Stream.
If you don't have OS X 10.7.5 or higher and iPhoto 9.2.2 or higher you'll have to upgrade first.

  • How to remove corrupt image from iPhoto

Somewhere in my photo library I have a photo that iPhoto really doesn't like! I want to know how to remove this image from my library, possibly by deleting it via Finder.
When I scroll through my photos in iPhoto the software hangs momentarily, and then crashes completely, whenever it gets to this particular image. When I try to export my photos (for backup purposes) iPhoto always crashes when trying to export this same image.
The problem has appeared with one of the recent updates to iPhoto, when I originally imported this image I could see and export the image just fine. The same issue is preventing me from migrating my photo library to the new Photos app - the import process that runs when I first launch Photos always crashes at the same point, presumably because of this same image file.
I am unable to remove the image by deleting it via iPhoto because I can't get iPhoto to display the image without crashing, please can anyone suggest another way to get rid of it.

I've been trying to post details from the crash report here, but the forum software tells me that the message contains 'an invalid character' - which character is invalid? Who knows...
