How to import sony analog tapes for editing on Macbook?

Macbook does not have a firewire port. How can I import analog tapes into Macbook for editing?

Get a USB microphone such as the Griffin iMic, then a tape deck with RCA output connectors. Griffin has Final Vinyl software for free download.

  • Imovie - how to import MP4 video clip for editing ? Wont drag and Drop ; using OSX on macbook

the Video just flies back onto desktop.

It should only have to do the full search the first time. From then on it should be quick.
Since yours is not, I would suspect that iMovie is not able to write the results of the search, so the next time it has to start from scratch. This could be a permissions issue.
Go to Disk Utility and try to repair permissions on your main hard disk.
You might also try trashing preferences. (Details here - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4061 )

  • HD Sony Video .m2ts.  Can I import them into iMovie for editing?

    Hi
I have all my video files stored on a hard disk.  I am thinking of buying a new MAC and want to know if iMovies can import .m2ts HD video for editing and playback?  I see from support section that its ok straight from the camera but what about my older videos located on the hard disk?
    Thanks!

You need to save to the camera roll of the iPad, not the Movies app.
So you will need to save the videos to the iPad via the Photos Tab.
If you can see the video in the photos app then iMovie can see them.
If you can see the videos in the movies app then iMovie cannot (Movies is for copyright movies so iMovie does not look there).
There are a few threadson here that have the same question as yours.
You can have a look at them.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • How long is normal battery life for late 2011 macbook air?

How long is normal battery life for late 2011 macbook air?

I would also note that the 11" and 13" have different lives.  While the 11" has a smaller screen to drive (and thus, in theory, less power) it also has less space for a battery.  So it turns out the 13" has a longer battery life, all other things being equal (same usage and the like).
Clearly what's "average" will vary by user.  Depending on what I'm doing, I can get Apple's rated life (or darned close) or I could end up well short of that life.  The "rated" life is 5 hours for the 11" and 7 hours for the 13" but that is, at best, a very rough approximation.  As the picture in captfred's response makes clear, the actual usage of the machine has a huge influence.

  • How to import a .wav file for adding to a clip in imovie 09

I want to know how can we import a .wav file in Imovie 09.
The sound is in some location on my 2nd hard disc.
    I checked this page
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-import-audio-into-imovie-09-project s.navId-323836.html
but this does not help my requirement.
I have a video in which there was a lot of hiss recorded via camera I exported the audio and using some audio filtering softwares cleaned the sound and now I want to import this clean sound back to my imoive project.
It is a .wav file which is clean and without hiss.

I see.By the time I saw your msg I had done the same and opened Itunes to play.
There was an option in Imovie to import Itunes playlist or file and was able to do so.
Any one will guess as in File some import menu
should exist for this.In this case it was not that.
mp3 clip needs to be played in Itunes
where Itunes will make it a part of the mp3 library it has.
Then Imovie 09 has a way to import the shared playlist from itunes.

    Hi,
I want to create a datagrid with add button. The user can add a row and i want all the editable columns to be opened for editing.
I can open a single cell for editing by using startItemEditorSession, but how can i do it for multiple columns in the same time?

I recommend you turn off the automatic update feature -- It can really cause you a lot of trouble.
Have you already determined that your coauthor cannot open your file?  If so, I suggest you go backwards, get a copy of the old iBA from him to put on your machine, so you both use the same version.  There's no way to convert iba files to anything, as far as I know.

  • Specs for editing on MacBook Pro.

Just got CS6. My old MacBook isn't up to the task of editing HD with it. (I used to use Final Cut Pro 6 with little problem). I'm considering getting a new MacBook.
Anybody else editing on a MacBook? What do I need to make it run smoothly, and not have to render all the time. (Edting on a desktop isn't an option at the moment).

    Hi,
If you want a solution that can get the job done, but not an extreme pro level, you could try proxy editing/offline editing.
(Pasted from another reply I made to another similar topic.)
I keep checking out these forums from time to time and there has been a rapidly rising trend for people asking more and more about editing on laptops. I myself posted in the past quite a bit since I also needed a laptop. The very fact that they are considering laptops for editing and not going for more powerful AND cheaper desktop alternatives means that they need systems that are not going to be used for very heavy duty editing and for general usage as well, and a laptop is ideal due to comfort using it for general computing.
I have also personally met and seen people who have configured systems with nVidia non-supported cards WITHOUT the hack and are more than happy not knowing whats going on and that their card has never really been used by premiere without the file modification.
However, even RED4k footage can be (theoretically) edited EFFECTIVELY on a minimum requirement PC if the experts here start recommending people how to do proxy/offline edits. Even for the extremely non-technical folks, there are youtube links with easy to understand directions on how to do that.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4290664?tstart=0
    http://www.homedvd.ca/2010/12/19/offline-hd-proxy-editing-at-work/
    http://helpx.adobe.com/speedgrade/using/proxy-files.html
I will post links later as do not have access to youtube now, or anyone can simply search for 'proxy edit' or 'offline edit' on youtube.
People with even terrible systems with 1 hdd and 4 gigs ram can merrily hack away at footage without much worries. Yes, there will be a few additional steps and time required, but they can still pull off something acceptable this way.
Another thing, there are caddys on ebay for $10 that swap out the optical drives of the laptops with an internal enclosure which allows another harddisk to be added. I am using this myself on a lenovo W520 and have 2 7200 RPM harddrives. I can even add in a 3rd MSATA SSD drive as this laptop allows that (you can even order one from lenovo with RAID already installed and 2 drives).
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=w520+cadd y&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Therefore, yes, I do believe that it is possible to edit just about anything (save very high bitrate footage that needs to be done quickly) on just about anything (if the transcoding time and disk space are available).
I once again wish to clarify that the above is geared towards non-professionaly like myself (or even for professionals having a really bad day) but this technique can become even more effective if intel's Quicksync transcoding engine is used, which is the fastest at video transcoding at this time. (have not checked this out myself yet)
I hope this was helpful. I would be more than happy for any criticism and advice from the experts here because I learnt a lot through them and hope to learn more.
    Cheers.

  • How to import Sony Z1 and A1 tape based files to FCP X?

Apple support have today told me (eventually) that footage from the Sony HVR Z1 and A1 and the GoPro Hero 2 cameras are not suppported by FCP X, they suggest using a 3rd party convertor, this will add considerably to the time bringing data into the package.
How do others get over this issue as I am assuming that others are using Sony HVR & GoPro cameras as they are market leaders.

Who exactly at Apple support told you this? Z1 and A1 are HDV cameras and are covered by this note
Final Cut Pro X is compatible with most MiniDV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats, which use a FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.LINK) cable to transfer video.
The GoPro media can be imported an optimized on import. The audio from the cameras is not suitable for FCP, but most people don't use audio from these cameras. If you need audio and video you can batch convert with Compressor or MPEG Streamclip.

  • How to import from VCR tape to my Mac

    Hello,
I just recorded (taped) on my TV's built-in VCR a short 5-minute news clip that I want to email to someone via Quicktime in an email.
My question is how to physically transfer the content from the TV tape to a Quicktime video (or other method) so that I can email this clip.
    I am using a Mac G5 w/OS X.
    Thank you for reading this.

My question is how to physically transfer the content from the TV tape to a Quicktime video (or other method) so that I can email this clip.
If the VCR is analog, you need to convert the analog line output (usually RCA jacks) to a dgital format (Firewire DV most common) your G5 can understand. This is normally done using a dedicated analog to digital converter. These can range from a relativey inexpensive unit like the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge to more fully featured devices like the Canopus ADC-300. On the other hand, if you have a digital camcorder with throughput conversion capabilities (see manual), you can use this at no extra expense. As to the actual capture of the file on your Mac, applications like iMovie, FCE, and/or FCP are commonly used where some form of editing is required and QT Pro is handy if you wish to capture/convert to H.264 in a single step without edits. Vidi (free) is another popular DV capture utility which can save iMovie compatible files but has not edit/conversion capabilities.
