How to import Sony XDCam material to FCPX in Yosemite?

HI!
I know there is already this link : http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/454-apple-post-how-to-import-sony-xdcam-med ia-into-fcpx
Having tried it, it doesn't seem to be up to date with Yosemite. Any suggestions?

Did you download version 1.2?

FCP X only recognizes Firewire decks and cameras.  You'll need some sort of converter to go FW.  Look in to Blackmagic, AJA, Matrox, stuff like that.  I don't know any specific devices off hand.
That deck is an iLink enabled mini DV player.
It should work with the appropriate firewire cable.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

  • How to import 1080p from SD600 to FCPX?

From Malcolm How can I import 1080p from SD600 to FCPX?

    Hi Ian,
So, if I have one SD card & it records only in AVCHD set at 1920 x 1080 @ 50p, FCPX should be able to import it, right ? (I am still on FCPX 10.0.4. Or must I upgrade my FCPX to 10.0.5 ?)
    Thanks

Sorry, I didn't notice that you meant the 1080/50p type.
As long as you have the latest version of FCP X, you can also import these.
    However, here is the catch.
They must not be mixed with normal AVCHD on the same card.
So in future, if you want to import them easily, keep one card for AVCHD and another for 1080/50p.

  • Cannot import Sony XDCAM HD 35mbps clips

Download the Sony XDCAM software for FCP HD. Can download only clips up to 25mbps but not their HD quality 35mbps.
What seems to be the problem - a No Codec text is displayed on the images.

Sony haven't publically released the new version of the XDCAM Transfer tool yet.
v1.0 is the current release, v1.1 is the one that enables 35mbps.

  • Importing Sony XDCAM EX3 clips no audio? PPRO CS3

    Hi,
I have been trying to import some XDCAM EX3 footage to CS3 3.2.
I have imported  2 of the BPAV folders and they are fine.
The other 3 BPAV- when I import the video is fine but no audio? I'm a bit worried? Where is the audio?
    many thanks for any help.
    scott

    Hello,
I tried going in to the BPAV folder- opening the CLPR folder then trying to view one of the mpeg 4 quicktimes.
I get an error message - Error 2010- the movie contains some invalid data.
BUT these are on the files that imported fine into ppro cs3.
I don't know if the audio files are AC3.
I went to the clips in the timeline that worked and hit properties and it said they were LCPM16?
BUT again, some of the BPAV folders were fine.
This is my first time trying to import these files.
I thought it would work straight away!!

  • How to import and open files in fcpx?

the files i was able to import from my hard drive (from p2 off panasonic hvx 200 camcorder) open in fcpx in bad quality (they are fuzzy), so i cannot edit them.  what shall i do?

We use P2 all the time, and recently sold an HVX-200, shooting with an HPX-170 and 7D now.  We've never had image quality issues with P2.
Be sure you're going to the Import Camera Archive method to import P2 clips.  If they are fuzzy, they are fuzzy, FCP X doesn't change the image quality.  Remember that the tiny LCD on those P2 cameras don't really show enough detail to judge stuff like detailed image quality.
Import the clips into FCP X, they'll become ProRes clips.  Open those into QuickTime Player, and if it's fuzzy there, then that's how they were shot.  If they are clear there, check the Playback Quality setting in FCP X's preferences.

  • How to import Sony EX1 files into FCS (that are already on HD in folders)

let me try an explain, I have bought some footage, and the person that sold me the footage gave me the raw files. I was shot using a SONY EX1. I have one too, as well as a EX3. My difficulty is that I'm not able to import the files into FCS... when I import my own footage I read it from the SXS using XDCAM Transfer, but as the footage he sold me is already on my HD and in the raw form (in folders divided into files)...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have been away on a shoot, but finally back, and still have not resolved the problem...I have try to do what you say, but XDCAM Transfer does not recognize the folders... it is strange...any other idea???

  • Anyone figured out how to import P2 720p footage to FCPX?

Hello Final Cut Pro X Discussers.
Problem: Panasonic P2 720 footage of any kind cannot be imported in to FCPX.
To my knowledge, there has been a shockingly disregarded problem in FCPX where you can not import and transcode 720 resolution video from Panasonic P2 cards. MXF files to be exact.
How could Apple/Final Cut Pro team overlook this for so many versions now? What's odd is we can import 1080 footage off the same P2 cards fine, but for some reason 720, at any frame rate, creates an error and cannot be transcoded.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
Thanks for your tips and advice FCP community.

@BenB - What format are you shooting in with P2? I have an HVX200, and when I shoot in 1080 at any frame rate, I also DO NOT have problems importing directly from camera or otherwise. However, whenever I shoot footage in 720p at ANY frame rate, I DO have problems importing.
The camera pops up in the "Import from Camera" window, I can see the clips, I can even play them, and after I select all or individual clips and hit "Import", FCPX tries importing them for a little bit and after a couple minutes an error window pops up saying there was a problem importing clip.
This happens whether I import directly from the camera, or from an archive that I copy to my local machine.
What's most surprising to me about this dilemma is the complete lack of documentation or response on the internet altogether. I see no official comment on the matter from Apple, nor Panasonic. Nor do I see reasonable alternative solutions, other than "Use FCP7 to Log&Transfer your P2", or buy one of the crappy overpriced third-party scam softwares out there.

  • How to import Sony Z1 and A1 tape based files to FCP X?

Apple support have today told me (eventually) that footage from the Sony HVR Z1 and A1 and the GoPro Hero 2 cameras are not suppported by FCP X, they suggest using a 3rd party convertor, this will add considerably to the time bringing data into the package.
How do others get over this issue as I am assuming that others are using Sony HVR & GoPro cameras as they are market leaders.

Who exactly at Apple support told you this? Z1 and A1 are HDV cameras and are covered by this note
Final Cut Pro X is compatible with most MiniDV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats, which use a FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.LINK) cable to transfer video.
The GoPro media can be imported an optimized on import. The audio from the cameras is not suitable for FCP, but most people don't use audio from these cameras. If you need audio and video you can batch convert with Compressor or MPEG Streamclip.

OK.  Try skipping that.  Put the disk into a Blu-ray drive and just use Windows Explorer to copy everything over.
We have the same camera and disc drive. You can't put the discs into a standard bluray drive as they have are in a cartridge. The disc reader he's using is the appropriate way to import that media.
I'm not sure what's going on for you but I'm unable to replicate your problem. Put XDCAM disc into drive, copy entire contents to a folder, then in media browser right click on that folder (not the subfolders) and click import. I get a bin named whatever the folder was called, with all my clips inside. I'm on CS6.0.2 on a mac.

quote pgs 337, 338, Chapter 11 of the Manual:
1 Add a clip to the Timeline with a frame size that doesn’t match the current project’s frame size (resolution) settings.
2 Select the clip in the Timeline.
3 To open the Video inspector, click the Inspector button in the toolbar (shown below),
and click the Video button at the top of the pane that appears.
4 Choose a method of conforming frame size from the Type pop-up menu in the Spatial Conform section of the Video inspector.
    • Fit: The default setting. Fits the clip within the project’s frame size setting without cropping the clip’s video. Black bars appear on the sides of the frames that don’t match the project’s frame size (resolution). In the case of a standard-definition (SD) clip in a high-definition (HD) project, Final Cut Pro scales up the SD clip to fit the HD project’s frame size. In the case of an HD clip in an SD project, Final Cut Pro scales down the HD clip to fit the SD project’s frame size.
    • Fill: Makes the clip’s video fill the project’s frame size. In the case of an SD clip in an HD project, Final Cut Pro scales up the SD clip to fit the HD project’s frame size. Cropping occurs along the clip’s longer dimension to allow the shorter dimension to fill the screen. In the case of an HD clip in an SD project, Final Cut Pro scales down the HD clip to fit the SD project’s frame size. Cropping occurs along the clip’s shorter dimension to allow the longer dimension to fill the screen.
    • None: Leaves the clip’s frame size unchanged. If the clip’s frame size is larger than the the project’s frame size, the clip appears cropped. If the clip’s frame size is smaller than the project’s frame size, black bars surround the clip.
