How to Import Spotlight Comments into iPhoto

Is there a way to import Spotlight Comments into iPhoto at the same time I bring in the image?

Afraid not. You will need something to convert those comments into standard photo metadata like Exif or IPTC.

  • How to import Photoshop files into iPhoto?

I'm just starting to use iPhoto 6 and my picture collection is mainly in Photoshop (v7) format. Is there any easy way to import them into iPhoto or do I need to figure out a way to batch-convert everything to JPG first? I hope not - the images are in a nested folder tree with many different depth branches... If that's the way, does anyone know of a batch convert utility that can follow subfolders recursively?
    Mike

    Mike:
Locate one of them in the Originals folder and check out the ownership and permissions on it. Try resetting the ownership and permissions on the entire iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
Just in case also do a batch "unlock" according to this Apple KB document: iPhoto 6: "Unable to upgrade this photo library" message. Although you've upgraded your library OK this just unlocks any file that may have gotten locked somehow. Just a precaution.
For those that you can't import select one and bring up the Info window, type Command-I. The in the Default Application section select Preview as the default application and click on the Apply to all... button. See if that helps.

  • How to import Dropbox files into iPhoto?

I have more than 1000 JPEG files in 3 different subfolders under the DropBox Pictures folder. I want to use them in some apps that only work with photos on the camera roll. I can find all kinds of advice on how to get individual files into the camera roll but I haven't found any on how to do multiple files in a batch. I'm assuming I need to go through iPhoto. I'm not very familiar with it because I seldom use the camera. I work mainly with JPEG files from external sources. I'm running IOS 7.1.1 on an iPad Air. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I don't know whether to be more irritated with Apple for not providing a batch mechanism or with the app developers for restricting their input to the camera roll (unless that's an Apple requirement).
The lack of a batch mechanism is annoying, but the restriction to the Camera Roll is built deep into the saftety restriction for IOS devices. Apps are restricted to their "Sandbox", and the Camera Roll is the central sharing place for photos on iOS devices. There is no way to circumvent this.
Maybe, your problem to get the photos into the Camera Roll is due to using Dropbox and not one of Apple's own provided tools to transfer the photos,  see the list of possibilities to transfer photos between devices. For example, Photo Stream would save the photos automatically to the Camera Roll. Or use iTunes Photos sync.
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnka7d353af
Once you can make iPhoto see the photos in an album, you can batch-save them to to camera roll: (http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkee26bc1f)
Save photos to the Camera Roll on your iOS device
Tap a photo, album, or event and tap the share button > Camera Roll.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save:
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap up to 100 photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
    Tap Done.
To use your photo in another app, open the app and select the Camera Roll album.

  • How to import AVCHD movies into iPhoto without wavy lines.

Seems to be quite the common plight but few resolved answers (that I could find) ...
Importing videos in to iPhoto from Sony Handycam "works", but upon viewing the quality is garbage with lines, shooting in 1080i mode at 30 fps.
I know I can import into iMovie but because it converts that to AIC it chews up way more space. I've also played around with ClipWare, but that only seems to reduce the distraction slightly.
Any other automated software out there to do this? Seems like a good market to make some serious coin for whoever comes up with software for it.

Lighten up Francis! It was meant to be lighthearted observation of some frustrating facts. Didn't you see my smiling winking emoticon?
It is cathartic to vent a little now and then by the way, you should try it sometime.
I originally posted to confirm for others that the bug was still there.
Your post was not helpful since you simply told me to stop doing what I need to do. I understand that is all the advice you could give since there is no workaround for the bug. I explained why changing to another video format would not meet my needs.
Your suggestion for contacting Apple directly and giving feedback is good but at this point we are probably having a tempest in a teacup over nothing since it will be a whole new ballgame in Photos.
So long and have a nice day.

  • How to import Aperture library into iPhoto 08?

Until recently I was an iphoto 08 user and decided to try Aperture 2.1. I exported the iphoto 08 library into aperture. I'm overwhelmed by Aperture and want to return to the simplicity of iphoto. My aperture library sits on an external drive.
    Please help! Thanks

Hi Niel, thanks again. I reviewed the link. I must be dense;-)
I want to move the entire iphoto library off the external drive and back onto my laptop so I can run iphoto and not have to attach the external drive. So, I closed iphoto, went into finder, clicked iphoto library file on the external drive, and dragged it onto the iphoto folder in applications. This did not work.
Is there a simple way to do this?

  • Import Spotlight comments into Bridge CS3?

Has anyone figured out a way to do this yet?
    Thx

Has anyone figured out a way to do this yet?
This sounds like a request after an earlier post but I don't know what you
exactly want or to what post you are referring to. As I rarely use Spotlight
I saw an option to place a comment but never used it in my workflow nor have
I heard anyone else about it.
Bridge uses metadata according to IPTC, if you need to copy text to those
fields you might try the scripting forum elsewhere on this site.
Maybe you can specify a bit more what you want to do and what your goal is.
Meanwhile you could already start to use a workflow with adding text to the
metadata fields in Bridge itself. You can select multiple files that need
same info and you only have to fill in once for those selected files to fill
    them all in one go.
BTW, the current version is CS5 and needless to say you are a little behind
with upgrading, especially Bridge CS3 was not the best version. CS6 will be
your last chance to an upgrade after this you will have to get a complete
    new version.

  • Transferring spotlight comments to iPhoto

I've got several hundered scanned photos on a hard drive with spotlight comments attached.
Is there any way to transfer those spotlight comments into iPhoto's comment field when I import the files into iPhoto, or will I have to type them all in manually?
If there isn't a way to do it through iPhoto, it seems like the kind of task that an Automator script could be written to handle, but I'm not very familiar with that.

    Chip:
Unless you can find an Applescript that will do the job you'll probably have to enter them manually. Automator does not have any actions that I could find that could do the job. But then, I'm not overly proficient with Automator.
You might ask in the Applescript forum.
    Do you Twango?

  • How is the Raw data used in iPhoto. I currently shoot both jpeg and raw and import them both into iPhoto.

How is the Raw data used in iPhoto? I currently shoot both jpeg and raw and import them both into iPhoto. What do I gain by collecting Raw data?
    Thanks

You get more parameters for making adjustments to the image. This is not really an iPhoto question but more a general photography one. In rather simple terms here's how a digital camera works:
You expose an image. A lot of data is gathered in by the sensor. But it's just a bug lump of data and not very useful in that form.
In cameras that shoot jpeg that mass of data is interpreted/processed into an actual image, and the image is stored in a jpeg file. (that's a process broadly analogous to developing a film). The decisions that go into making that interpretation are all made by an engineer somewhere, back when the camera was developed.
If you shoot Raw, then what you do is take that mass of data, and rather than working to the decisions made by that engineer, you develop the shot - you run the digital darkroom.
Why would you do this? Take on all this extra work? Well one of three reasons: a: you think you can do a better job than that engineer. b: you just prefer the result you get when you develop yourself or c: you're a hopeless shooter and raw means you have more options to fix the mistakes you made in the camera. (That's why I do it.)
Here endeth the two dollar tour. So, basically, if you're happy with what your camera produces in Jpeg then there's really no need to shoot Raw.
There's no need at all to shoot Raw+Jpeg as iPhoto creates a jpeg preview when you import, so you're just wasting space.

This is just a hunch - are they AVCHD? What type of camera/camcorder are they from?

There are many more hits if you do a search in the forums on those.
If they are not, then post back with camera info including what it says in the specs about the file forumat it shoots video in.

  • Import spotlight comments?

Is there a way to import spotlight comments along with the photo into iPhoto? And vice-versa, is there a way to export the photo description into spotlight comments?
I'm guessing no. I don't see a anything in preferences or the import/export command, but I thought I would ask to be sure!
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Karen
Is there a way to import spotlight comments along with the photo into iPhoto?
No, unless you can find a way to write that to the Exif data.
And vice-versa, is there a way to export the photo description into spotlight comments?
No, you can only use the Title and Keywords.
    However this app
    http://www.tc.umn.edu/~erick205/Projects/Metadata%20Export/
may be useful to get the info out and you can copy and paste.

  • Import Audio Files Into iPhoto

This is really a 2 part question.
I have been recording a few sound clips with a small digital pocket recorder that are family stories like "Remeber when Aunt Mildred lost her teeth?" etc. So far the only way I have found to get them into the Mac is as a Quick Time movie. It works. Naturally if there is a better way I'm interested. So the first question is: What are the ways to import small sound clips (Garage Band is my least favorite option).
On a regular QT movie, I can import them into iPhoto. But iPhoto refuses to import audio only movies. Having these in iPhoto would let me catalog these sound files in iPhoto along with the other photos and other digital camera short movies. So the second question is: How can I import sound clips into iPhoto?
By the way, setting "Open With" in the information viewer of a file [Command I] to open with iTunes get these clips into iTunes just fine. Why not a movie into iPhoto?
Has anybody else crossed this bidge before?

There are various apps that might help with working with these sound files. What format does your recorder use. Personally I use Audacity as a sound editor (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) it's Open Source. For capturing sound that's otherwise difficult to get I use Audio Hijack (http://www.rogueamoeba.com).
When QT saves the files they are saved as .mov files, and while the Finder calls them QucikTime Movies, they are not, and iPhoto will not import them unless they have a video element. Of course, they import perfectly into iTunes.
    Some suggested solutions:
Make slide shows of Aunt Mildred, and for a soundtrack use the story of unfortunate teeth, simply by pointing to the relevant track in iTunes.
Make a movie. If you have quicktime pro it's quite easy and fast to paste some pics of Aunt Mildred to the Soundtrack. It's a little slower - but you have more options - to do it with iMovie or with PhotoToMovie (www.http://www.lqgraphics.com)
But in any event, it's only by having a movie that iPhoto will wok with the files.
