  • How to import an .csv file into the database?

    and can we code the program in JSP to import the.csv file into the database.

    It is better to use Java class to read the CSV file and store the contents in the database.
    You can use JSP to upload the CSV file to the server if you want, but don't use it to perform database operations.
    JSPs are good for displaying information on the front-end, and for displaying HTML forms, there are other technologies more suitable for the middle layer, back end and the database layer.
    So break you application into
    1) Front end - JSPs to display input html forms and to display data retrieved from the database.
    2) Middle layer - Servlets and JavaBeans to interact with JSPs. The code that reads the CSV file to parse it's contents should be a Java Class in the middle layer. It makes use of Java File I/O
    3) Database layer - Connects to the database using JDBC (Java Database Connectivity), and then writes to the database with SQL insert statements.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Keeping the above concepts in mind, first build a simple JSP and get it to work,
    then research on Google , for Java File I/O , discover how to read a file,
    Then search on how to readh a CSV file using Java.
    After researching you should be able to read the CSV file line by line and store each line inside a Collection.
    Then research on Google, on how to write to the database using JDBC
    Write a simple program that inserts something to a dummy table in the database.
    Then, read the data stored in the Collection, and write insert statements for each records in the collection.
    Hey Mike sorry its just a matter of habit that i say VST, it is the AU version and I am running and Logic 9.1.5 in 32 Bit mode... i think there is something wrong with the auvaltool as it keeps crashing... currently on the phone to apple support atm so will post back here if and when i get the fix for it... Cheers for the help ... Ps EW tech support just told me to uninstall then re-install, as if i hadn't tried that a few times and it still didn't install... so have reverted back to Play version 2 for EW off my Start-up HD so at least i can use them as stand alone device...   • How to import iTunes XML library into MS Acess database?
    I have exported my iTunes data to a library XML file. When I try to import these data to a MS Access database (without the sound files of course) I only get strange and stupid table entries.
    I would like to use MS Access to create more flexible reports of my music collection.
    Has anyone ever imported iTunes XML files into MS Access successfully?
    P.S. An import solution to OpenOffice.org as alternative is also appreciated.
    In iTunes, you can "Export Song List" and one of the other options is to export as a text file. This actually creates a comma or tab separated values file, which is a lot easier to import into Microsoft stuff than the XML file is.
  • How to import an iPhoto library into photos
    I have an iPhoto library onto an external disk. After the update Photos created a new library in the local pictures folder. How can I get the photos from iPhoto's into the new photos library and than move the new library on a external disk?
    You don't. You just open the Library on the External
    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos.. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    Moving Libraries is exactly the same as iPhoto:
    Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Photos
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
  • HT5664 how do you copy the iPhoto library to the hard drive
    I copied some photos onto a DVD and my new iMac won't let me download them into iPhoto.  I don't understand the instructions to download the iPhoto library into the hard drive.  How do I do that?  What do I do once that part is downloaded?
    1. Drag it.
    2. If you're moving loose files, open iPhoto and import or drag them into it. If you're moving an iPhoto library, double-click it.
  • 2 Qs: a: Can't see library in Pictures; b:How to import an old library
    I have a couple of problems with iPhoto.
    *1. Invisible Library*
    For some reason my library doesn't appear in the Finder when I go to the Pictures folder, however, I can see photos in my library when I open iPhoto.
    I've tried a spotlight search for iPhoto library but nothing appears.
    I have also tried quitting iPhoto and restarting holding the option key down. At the choice menu I cannot see any iPhoto library in the Pictures folder (or elsewhere).
    Is there some way I can make this invisible folder visible?
    *2. Import old library from external hard drive*
    I have a library stored on an external hard drive with several years worth of photos on it. I would like to import the photos but when I try, iPhoto imports everything including thumbnails, modified photos, originals etc. I end up with thousands of duplicate photos. How can I import only the original photos and/or photos that have been modified from this library?
    Thanks for your help
    Peter
    Peter:
    1 - in the library Control click on a thumbnail and select "Show File" in the contextual menu. When you get to the file in the Finder window you can use the Path button at the top of the Finder window to see where the library is located.
    It might be in a hidden folder for some reason. Go to the Finder->Go->Go to folder... menu and enter "/volumes" and hit return. If the library is there move it to the desktop and then into the Pictures folder. That will keep the events, albums, keywords, etc. intact for both libraries.
    2 - your best bet is to use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the external library into the one on your boot drive.
    Are you running iPhoto 7 (08)? In iPhoto 7 when you import another library it ignores any file in thj folder Data folder, i.e. the thumbnails. So all you get are the originals and the modified files.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
  • Importing my iPhoto library into Aperture.  Best way to avoid duplicates?
    Hi,
    I'm a new Mac user.  I have been in the very slow and tedious process of transferring my photos from my HP hard drive to my Mac.  I used iPhoto for a very brief time before purchasing Aperture 3.  (I've used photoshop for years.)  I haven't yet Imported or consolidated or whatever the correct term would be the iPhoto library into the Aperture library.  I've been avoiding it because I know there are some duplicates.  Mainly just a few "Events" from the last few weeks before starting using Aperture.  Now with the new update, it seems like it's a great time to get it all consolidated into an Aperture library that I can use in both iPhoto and Aperture.  What's the easiest way for me to proceed?  I'm sorry for my lack of proper Mac terms....I'm learning!
    Thanks so much for your help!
    Christy
    Clear as mud??
    If you want to see all your images - those now in your Aperture Library and those in your iPhoto Library- then you need to merge both Libraries into one Library - I'd import your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library.
    This combined Library will be compatible with both Applications.
    To merge your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library do the following:
    Make a backup of your current iPhoto library (libraries)
    Upgrade to iPhoto 9.3, if you have not already done so.
    Open your iPhoto Library at least once in Photo 9.3 to upgrade the Library.
    Unhide all hidden images. You cannot unhide them when viewing the Library in Aperture.
    Quit iPhoto.
    If you have not already upgraded to Aperture 3.3, do it like this:
    Backup your current Aperture library.
    Rebuild the Aperture Database using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools: Launch Aperture with the cmd-options-key combination (⌘⌥) firmly held down, then select  "Rebuild Database".
    After rebuilding upgrade to Aperture 3.3 and launch Aperture to upgrade the Aperture Library.
    With Aperture still open, double click your iPhoto Library. Aperture will prompt you, if you want to add or merge your iPhoto Library - choose "Merge". This will avoid importing duplicate images, as far as Aperture can tell that those are the same images - same filename.
    You will have to weed out some duplicates yourself - this is best be done by sorting the images by capture date, then duplicate shots will appear side by side.
    Post back, if you have more questions.
    Regards
    Léonie
  • How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?
    How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?
    iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
    It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
    Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
    Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
    Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
    Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
    In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
    You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
    Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
    NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
    And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.
  • I'm trying to make a slideshow in iMovie, but when I upload photos from my Aperture Library into the iMovie Photo Browser some photos (305 out of 427) are missing. How do I get iMovie to upload all of them?
    I'm trying to make a slideshow in iMovie, but when I upload photos from my Aperture Library into the iMovie Photo Browser, some photos (305 out of 427) are missing. How do I get iMovie to upload all of them?
    I have same problem. I could only see a fraction of my project photos if I browse the Aperture lbrary. It is the same problem when I sync the aperture photos to my iPhone or iPad. I still cannot solve it but I know a way to go around it for your iMovie to see the pictures so that you can work on your iMovie.
    Here is the work around:
    Export the photos from your album to your hard disk and re-import into your iPhoto. Now you should be able to see those photos that you want to work on in iMovie when you browse your iPhot library.
  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac
    Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.
    Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
    This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
  • I have updated iTunes on my computer and my iPod nano 4 is up to date but not all music shows up in my iTunes library..only the purchased songs..what happened and how do I get them back into the library?
    The music library in the updated version of iTunes is grossly incomplete although the music still remains on my iPod. Why did this happen and how do I get the music back into the library?
    Hi Dalegu219,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    If your iTunes library is on an external hard drive, but iTunes is not recognizing the library, first make sure the right library is selected.
    You can use these steps to make sure iTunes is opening the library on your external drive:
    If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
    If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
    If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
    You should see one of these screens:
    Pick Choose Library and locate the library on your external hard drive.
    From:
    iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support
    If the right library is selected, but you do not see your songs, try re-creating the library using the instructions found here:
    iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy
