How to impose a logo over video in FCPX?

Hey there. I am working on a video clip and I want to impose a logo over the video as it plays. The file is a jpg file. Someone told me to convert it to a png. I just dont know how to do this. transparent image? I need some help here....step by step....lol

drag the picture over the clips in your timeline
resize it by using the Transformation settings, position it
=> you get a tiny rectangle with your logo
if your logo is NOT an rectangle, the graphic file has to contain alpha-info = transparency; jpg is a codec which doesn't transport alphas ...
example:
on left, a logo, jpg, rectangle
open it in Preview,app (pre-installed on any Mac)
click on Selection, choose the Magic Wand for transparencies
click into the white 'background' and drag the mouse to in-/decrease threshold
release mouse, background selected
hit the back key = erase selection
save new version as png, check alpha
dragging THIS png-version onto the clips in your timeline keeps the individual form, use the transform settings to make it smaller and positioning it ...

I am making a short video that explains how to use some software for my job. I want to make a red rectangle appear around a particular item to highlight it (such as the mouse pointer) and be able to follow the motion of the item. I saw in the Boris documentation there was reference made to vector shapes, but I could not figure out where to create them. Sorry, I forgot to say I am using Final Cut Express HD 3.5.

The only way you can do it within FCE is by using motion keyframes. Create the shape in Photoshop, making sure it confirms to your video settings. You may also be able to create the shape within FCE by using a combination of Color (from Video Generators>Matte) and applying Mask Shape to it.
Set the shape on the video track above your clip (ie clip on V1, shape on V2). Click on the shape to open the motion controls in the Canvas (make sure Image + Wireframe is selected in Canvas). Now use the Motion contorl tab in the Viewer or the Motion handles in the Canvas to move the shape, setting Keyframes to animate the motion

What is the trick to get photos to show in any of the formats (green screen, insert, cut away)?
I can see them when I scroll across in the Project pane but no sight when I play them full screen, just frozen portions of the video where they´ve been placed.

Photos not showing on full screen play are marked png. , being captures of video and internet graphics using Jing downloaded to iPhoto. Those photos all show on full screen replay when entered as individual frames. Perhaps doctoring them in the edit and effects of iPhoto might get them to show in the iMovie formats (greenscreen, cut away). I´ll try that while waiting for your reply.

Yes, it's very possible. One resized image (resized with the Transform tool) stacked above an other image. Typically the smaller image is a connected clip to the image on the primary storyline.

Do you want the pictures to fill your video frame or do you want them smaller than the video frame so that the video shows behind them?

In any event, you put the video on one video track and the photos on a track above it, basically.

How do I output widescreen over S-Video?

I want to connect my MacBook Pro to a widescreen 16:9 TV over an S-Video cable. But when I do, the display is 4:3 stretched wide and distorted. It looks terrible!
How do I tell the Mac that the resolution it should be providing over video out is 1280x720, or any other widescreen resolution?

S-Video, as defined by it's standard, is a 4:3 resolution display. It outputs something like 700x436 resolution.
There may be better options, like using a TV with a DVI connector, or getting a DVI to HDMI conversion cable if the TV has HDMI. Both of these options will be digital connections, and the MBP will automatically support the resolution of the display that's connected then.
But -- as for S-Video, you're out of luck.

You would need an image editor to edit the images and add a border to the image first before importing them into Final Cut.

How do you display a swf video / videos when you mouse over, It'll be something like a pop up but just that it doesn't open in another windows but within the same window and will be like a pop up roll over image.

My first instinct was the simple stop(), but that didn't fly. I even added a stopMovie frame in my .swf and tried a gotoAndStop('stopMovie'); but that didn't fly either. And that's kind of where I'm stuck at.

How do i import iPhone 4s video to iphoto

I cant get the videos on my iPhone 4S to sync wirelessly into iphoto. Is this not possible or am i just overlooking some little checkbox somewhere?

I'm having the same problem. With photostream enabled in iPhoto '11 (9.2.1) and preferences set to copy/import into an event yet it doesn't move over movies shot on my new 4S. I figured its because the file might be a little on the large size because of the new camera. But with the phone plugged in via usb to the mac and iPhoto open it doesn't show up like it used to do. Same in iMovie: it doesn't see the iPhone as a 'camera attached' from which to import videos. The only options given to export from the phone are 'Message' and 'email' which probably means compression. So how do we save our 1080 videos shot on the 4S to our macs ?
turning photostream off does not do anything to make the iPhone appear either.
Setting preferences for the iPhone in iTunes to 'include movies' in the photos tab doesn't do anything.
Can't find the iPhone in Finder either.

Failed Leopard installation, now just show apple logo over white screen.

I just received OS X Leopard (not the new one, I'll buy it tomorrow) in order to upgrade to the new OS X snow Leopard. During the installation (took over 30 minutes to calculate the installation time that it was supposed to be 2 hr 49 min, I don't know if that's the average installation time). After about an hour of installation appeard a big yellow triangle (warning) over a message box saying something like "Installer couldn't verify 'Essentials' on the DVD, please contact the software manofacturer or try to install later". After restart the iMac it never rebooted, just shows the apple logo with the spinning circle, I left it that way last night while I was searching on the net for some help and iMac kept doing the same over 24hrs (apple logo over white screen). After reading on the forums I reboot with command+s and these are the two messages that are coming once and again in an endless loop:
First Message:
Aug 29 01:46:56 tony-guerreros-computer com.apple.launchd[1](com.apple.KernelEventAgent[2228]: posix_spawnp("/usr/sbin/KernelEventAgent", ...): No such file or directory
Second Message:
Aug 29 01:46:56 tony-guerreros-computer com.apple.launchd[1](com.apple.usbmuxd[2229]: getpwnam("_usbmuxd") failed
The number [2228] goes to [2229] then [2230] to the fist msg again, then [2231] to the second msg,.... in an endless loop.
Before this I have never experienced any trouble with this iMac. I don't know what to do now because it doesn't reboot and I don't have any boot disk besides TechTool Deluxe.

Read what you wrote and clarify it. You got the replacement disk? Yes or no. Yes the installer disk is a bootable disk. How else did you try to install Leopard?
