How to improve audio recording?

I currently use a SHURE 8900 mic with a Griffin USB connection to make my audio recordings on GarageBand.
I would like to improve the sound quality of the recordings, spoken words only.
I don't know where to begin, what other equitpment might help, etc.
Any advise appreciated.

Peaking is one thing; clipping is another. Like Nick said, if the audio is clipped there's not a lot you can do other than reshoot, unless the clipping is just a for a brief moment or so. Zoom in on the audio waveform in the Viewer and see if the tops are flat for more than a fraction of a second. If they aren't, a compressor/limiter could possibly help minimize the harshness. If it is clipped for longer periods, you could try this: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/ ... but nothing is guaranteed to fix clipped audio. A reshoot would be the best fix.

How to improve audio quality

I got the 8GB Nano as a gift. I already had good headphones -- Shure eC4's. The audio quality from the Nano is not as good as what I get off my laptop. Fooling around with the EQ settings gives a small improvement but overall the quality off the laptop still beats the Nano. Most of my tunes were ripped at 192 using Musicmatch several years ago. Did iTunes somehow transfer these to my Nano at 128? What is the default rip rate under iTunes? Can I change it? Or is the audio quality on the Nano just mediocre to begin with?

You must re-import everything at the new bitrate of 192kbps. You can clear your iTunes first before doing this to ensure there are no duplicate files.
The info contained in the other post is wrong. You cannot just sync your iPod at the new bit rate you selected, this will change nothing.
When you imported your CDs at 128kbps, a lot of info was lost from the original CD. This is how compression works. Put simply, when importing the songs iTunes discards any info that you cannot hear in order to make the file size smaller. That info can consist of anything such as frequencies that the human ear cannot hear (but which may affect harmonics). The theory being that if the ear cannot hear it, it's of no use.
Once imported into iTunes at 128kbps, increasing the bitrate to 192kbps without importing the CD all over again will not replace the info that was lost originally because it was discarded and cannot be recovered, and it will not improve the sound quality of your already imported files.
If sound quality is important to you, import the CDs again at the new bitrate.

Webex (cloud) integrated with Meeting Place 8.5 no audio record

Meeting Place 8.5 fully integrated with Webex. Webex scheduling is used. Meeting participants use Webex for the sharing of video and desktop. Meeting participants call into the Meeting Place Server for audio. Recording is turned on by the Host on Webex. Recording is saved. When recording is played back, cannot hear any audio from that I was assuming is recorded on the Meeting Place Server. I need guidance on how to get audio recording of meeting using Meeting Place as the audio conference bridge. Host user is setup on Webex to use Meeting Place server. As far as I can tell users are set up correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What exact version for MeetingPlace 8.5 do you have?
Was recording working before and just stopped, or it never worked?
Can you attach the screen shot of "MeetingPlace Administration Center > Cisco WebEx Configuration > Cisco WebEx Site Configuration"?
Can you attach the screen shot of your "WebEx Site Administration > Manage Site > Site Settings > View Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Integration Settings page" page?
How recording works:
When you start a meeting in WebEx, and participants join audio on MeetingPlace, and you click Record button, WebEx dials in to MeetingPlace using the "NBR Dial-out Number" configured in "WebEx Site Administration > Manage Site > Site Settings > View Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Integration Settings page" and joins the meeting with recording user credentials automatically generated by the system and initiates recording of the audio portion of the meeting. Audio and web recording are afterwards mixed in the cloud and available for playback.
Issues seen with recording:
1. "NBR Dial-out Number" is wrong (wrong Access number is provided when Cisco WebEx Site Configuration was configured).
2. DTMF digits weren't passed properly to MeetingPlace when WebEx dialed in to MeetingPlace to join the meeting and start the recording. However, in those case you would probably hear MeetingPlace prompts in the recording and not silence.
3. Recording wasn't triggered properly in WebEx and needs investigation (investigation with WebEx support)
4. Recording couldn't be started on MeetingPlace and needs investigation (logs, TAC case, etc.)

I already have a Skype recorder for any incoming or outgoing Skype or telephone calls. I use MP3 Skype Recorder for that. What I'm trying to achieve is different.
I have an existing voicemail message in Skype itself from one of my Skype contacts. It is this voicemail message that I want to save to my hard drive somewhere so there is no chance of me losing it in Skype itself.
I right clicked on the recording and there is an option in the context menu to 'Copy Message.' I clicked on this but I don't know where to save it to on my hard drive so I can play it whenever I want from there as a file.
I would also like to know if there is any way to change this voicemail message to another file format to play on my hard drive.
Can anybody help me with this scenario please?

I think you can only use audio if it's recorded on channel 1 or it does not recognize it.

Are you are using an audio interface?
Are you recording external instruments... you will need to explain what kind of audio, virtual instruments, loops, recorded audio through an interface?
If you're recording through an audio interface (or the computer's audio input) Logic's plugins cannot stop peaks as Software is -after- the the hardware input. If you're getting peaks recording through hardware you will need to bring down input levels.

On what computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 9? And, please install the 9.0.1 Update if you have not already.
Are you wanting to sync the audio to a video file from which its audio has been removed?
If so, right click the Timeline video, and, from the pop up menu, select Delete Audio.
Then import your .mp3 files to an audio file, and align them with the video file on the video track.
For fine adjustments, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once. One tap = nudge of one frame.
Or, as you hold down the Shift+Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once. One tap = nudge of 5 frames.
Consider: Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and setting Display Format = Milliseconds.

How Much External Hard Drive Partition Recommended for Audio Recording?

Hi,
I have a glyph 300 gigabyte drive. Does anyone have thoughts on how to partition it? I was thinking 200 gb for samples, etc and 100gig for recording audio? Is that too much or too little for recording audio? Or should I use all 300 gigs for audio recording. I also want to do video editing in FCP eventually.

Okay...There are 3 guys and each has a basket full of marbles. Close the QT X player without saving the recording. If you have already saved the recording, then locate the saved file and trash it in the normal manner. If you are referring to a temporary or saved file entry that shows up in the "Open Recent" list, the system will automatically reclaim the space as part of the routine system clean up if/when the file is no longer available. If you simply wish to immediately remove it from your "Open Recent" list before the system removes it, then use the "Clear Menu" option to manually clear the "Open Recent" list.

I've tried double clicking the audio strip, highlighting the part to cut, and pressing delete but sometimes it completely changes the position of the track in the sequencer. Please help me out. I've already copied and pasted the right channel (A2) onto the left channel (A1) but that just doubled the volume on the right channel.
For instance, when I listen to my audio with headphones it only comes thru the right one. How do I make it so that it comes thru both headphones?

Stereo is something else. It is a sound field where the individual elements are located through varying the amount of electrical energy for each element delivered to each channel.
What you have is a mono source that should be panned to center. This will equally divide the signal so it will be delivered out both the L & R channels.
Load the original clip to the VIEWER and set the PAN to 0 (zero). Delete any duplicates. They are unnecessary.

Does quickvoice show up under shared documents when connected to iTunes. you could transfer it that way. Connect to iunes and then select your device and choose apps along the top and scroll down and see if it is there under file sharing.
