How to include a slug-type area on PDF export

Does anyone know how I can include a slug area (or something similar) on an AI file when I save as PDF?  I need to include a part number, revision number and date of the file for reference purposes.  I've tried searching and can't seem to find a solution.  Thanks in advance!
Mel

To elaborate make your document artboard the correct size you need it so you can work properly.
Then place your slug as close as you feel you can then make another artboard encompassing the origina atboard plus the area the slug has been position.
That way you have the sim0ple choice of making the pdf of the larger one and then when you do not need the slug just select the document artboard.
Or if you include a bleed with trim marks then you can save with the bleed and trim mark settings and layout yur slug to fit in the area encomassed by the trim marks.
You can also use trim marks without a bleed so if you do not have bleeds you can still accomplish what you want.

  • Type shifts upon PDF export

    I have been wrestling with an issue for a while now and hope someone can shed some light on it.
    When exported from InDesign as a PDF, type often shifts vertically, horizontally, or both. The problem appears to get worse from left to right and top to bottom. The more columns there are, the worse it gets across columns.
    This problem was first caught on a commercial printer's proof when I noticed the type had shifted from my InDesign file to their proof. Since most commercial printers use PDF workflows (as this one did), any bug in PDF export represents a major issue. I have had projects print incorrectly due to this and I am in need of a fix that commercial printers can also implement because current projects are suffering from it and past projects have come out wrong.
    I have replicated the issue on numerous different machines (and even had it tested by friends around the country) running everything from CS3 to CC, so it seems to be a systemic and possibly old InDesign / PDF export issue. The problem seems to happen with any font format — OT, TT, orPS. The PDF settings (x-1a, x-4, etc) don't seem to affect the issue.
    Anyone can probably create a test file that will show the issue by making a vertical tabloid document with three columns, threading text to fill all three columns, and then setting the type to be 9pt / 12pt leading. Export a PDF and then import it and lay it directly on top of the page in InDesign, after having changed the type in InDesign to another color. In the samples below I changed the InDesign text to magenta, and the black is the PDF laid on top of it.
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
    Mike

    So I think we have a working solution for PDF/X-1a or simply a PDF with version Acrobat 4 (PDF-v1.3).
    The trick is to force transparency reduction to the text frame. One can do it without converting text to outline.
    Just put a rectangle with a fill of 100% [Paper] set to transparency 0% on top of it. Downside is, that the exported PDF will get a white background.
    Currently for PDF/X-4 I see no chance to work around the issue, if:
    1. Point size is 9 pt *
    2.1. A baseline grid of 12 pt * is used and the paragraph styles are set to align to it
    or 2.2. If the pointsize is extactly 9 pt * and the leading is exactly 12 pt *
    * I did not check all other creteria you mentioned in your 7th post: the ratio assumption between pointsize and leading, maybe the formula is something like that: Text Line Distance = n * (Pointsize + Pointsize / 3 ) => creep.
    I packed all documents to a zip archive that you can download from my Dropbox account:
    Dropbox - 150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.zip
    150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.zip contains the following files:
       150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.indd
       150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.idml
       Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf
       Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf
    "150127-1-TextShift-CS5.5.indd" contains several layers (from top to bottom):
    Text2Path  (currently invisible)
    Layer1
    PDF-Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-when-exported   (currently invisible)
    PDF-Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-when-exported  (currently invisible)
    The mentioned white rectangle is placed on master spread A on layer "Text2Path".
    Live text in a text frame is on "Layer1" (visible).
    Layer "PDF-Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-when-exported" contains the placed PDF "Layer-Text2Path-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf", layer color is green, because here we can see no issues.
    Layer "PDF-Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-when-exported" contains the placed PDF "Layer-Text2Path-NOT-VISIBLE-PDF-X1a.pdf"; layer color is red and showing the issues.
    Both PDFs are exported with the same PDF Export Preset.

  • How to set the column width in the PDF exports of interactive reports ?

    Hello,
    I have a huge problem with the PDF export for the Interactive reports. I'm using APEX 3.2.
    I have to produce a PDF report in landscape format that show 21 columns. My problem is that the columns have a ridiculous short width and that the text inside the columns do not wrap in the columns. So I get things like that :
    Date Name
    2011 Leina
    I should see 2011-08-01 and the name Leinad Jan
    I tried several things to format the columns, but none of the them has any effect on the PDF itself.
    1) I used HTML code in the report query. It works well with the interactive report, but display the HTML tags in the PDF.
    2) I used css to set the width of my columns. It works in the interactive report, but not in the PDF, the column width do not change.
    It's like the report do not notice that my page format is Legal 14 x 8.5 (Landscape) and still believe it's 8.5 x 11 (which is "portrait")
    Do you have any idea so set the columkn widths in the reports ?
    Thank you !

    To "remember" the column widths, add a mouse listener to the table header. Upon mouseReleased(), get the column widths and save them to your file. When the application starts next time, get the stored widths and set them using:
    table.getColumn("XXX").setPreferredWidth(...);
    By default, your columns are adjustable, but you can use:
    table.getTableHeader().setResizingAllowed(true);

  • How to include atribute xsi:type in the xml generated through java

    Hi,
    i am generating an xml using java and castor.
    I want to include this attribute in my xml:
    xsi:type="abc"
    for example:
    My snippet is:
    Underwriting_detail[] underwritingDetail = new Underwriting_detail[1];
    underwritingDetail[0] = new Underwriting_detail();
    underwritingDetail[0].setContent(fulfillmentPreResponseTO.getUnderwritingDetailsMainAnswer1());
    underwritingDetail[0].setQuestion_code(fulfillmentPreResponseTO.getUnderwritingDetailsMainQuestionCode1());
    underwritingDetail[0].setAnswer_format(AnswerFormatType.YESNO);
    underwritingDetail[0].setSequence_number(fulfillmentPreResponseTO.getUnderwritingDetailsSequenceNumber());
    Result is:
    <underwriting_detail answer_format="YesNo" sequence_number="1" question_code="JVL1Q1">NO</underwriting_detail>
    The requirement is:
    <underwriting_detail xsi:type="NonStdUWQuestion" answer_format="YesNo" sequence_number="1" question_code="JVL1Q1">No</underwriting_detail>
    There is no method defined in the underwriting_detail class to add this attribute. Is there any way to add this xsi:type="NonStdUWQuestion" in this tag?

    yes, is a question of JSF

  • How to include a new Subject area?

    Hi,
    1. In my Physical Layer I have ORCL Database and SH physical schema, how do I move it to the Business model and then to Presentation Layer.
    2. Once it is moved to Presentation Layer will it appear in the Subject Area of the "Answers".
    3. This is an unrelated question to the above two Questions. In the offline mode, the RPD is names as "samplesales.rpd", but when I open it in online mode it says "Analyticsweb" and I do not see the reference to "samplesales.rpd", but it is the correct rpd. Please let me know why?
    Thank you.

    It is not just moving to business layer and then to presentation layer. In moving the tables to business layer, lot of functionality is addressed. Basically you will be creating star schema here. You need create fact tables and dimensions here. You need to pick columns from the tables that will be used. Take a look at demo to get understanding of how this is works.
    Analytics web is the system DSN. You can see this information from odbc data source administrator.

  • How to include original InDesign filename in the PDF properties?

    In CS3, I used to make postscript files and distill them to PDFs in Acrobat Distiller. When I did this the finished PDF would include info about the author and original filename.
    In CS5 I export directly to PDF. Is there any way to include this data when I export? I know you can add additional metadata in File info, but it doesn't seem to include the original file name.
    Anyone know how to do this?
    V

    Distiller operates on files, so I'm not surprised it can insert the file name, but I wonder where it gets the author?  (I confess I use Distiller as a last resort.)
    One of the charming aspects of XMP metadata is that the names for the different categories of information sometimes change with the context.  Thus were you to put your ID file's name in the ID File Info category Description and export to PDF it will show up in Acrobat/Reader in the Subject category.  If I wanted to record the original ID filename I'd probably paste it there -- in my work Title usually needs to hold the actual title.  One of the scripters could probably come up with a way to automate the process, but I want to check the metadata anyway, and as long as I'm there it doesn't take long to type or paste in the filename.

  • How to include camera settings on actual image during export

    Is there a way to include camera settings directly onto the image upon export of image(s) in Aperture Program?

    Not without a plug-in.  Aperture does not allow compositing.
    The plug-in BorderFX can likely allow you to do what you want, and more.  Recommended.

  • Don't include 'out-of-frame' objects in PDF export

    Here's my issue - I need to create a screen friendly PDF instruction manual.
    I have been provided with the PDF print version of the manual, which is 660mm x 90mm (it folds up, 11 pages, to 60x90)
    I want to present the manual 2 pages at a time, so the resulting PDF will display nicely on screen & user can scroll down.
    I create a document 120x90 with a frame containing the PDF - only showing 2 of the pages (the rest of the manual is out of frame)
    If I export this to a new PDF it will include the entire manual out-of-frame, thus giving a 2MB file for what should be only 200K
    If I repeat this for all pages I'll end up with a 10MB PDF.
    How can I crop /  exclude out-of-frame artwork from the export?

    I never really use Acrobat, so im not sure if it has the tools i need.
    The artwork I have is one large single page document 660mm x 90mm, this folds concertina style to create an 11 page manual. So the artwork does not have any separately defined 'pages' as such - just one large sheet.
    I opened in Acrobat & cropped the page down to only show 2 of the 'pages'. then saved the new PDF - it was exactly the same filesize as the original PDF even though it was 1/5th the physical dimension - so it seems acrobat has the same issues.
    The solution for me is to open the PDF in illustrator & drag over the 'pages' into indesign.
    However, the point of this question was to see if there is an option in indesign to crop out extraneous artwork so I dont have to do that.
    Your post is helpful though, the article about overhead is exactly what i am experiencing. Dragging from Illustrator is my quickest solution it seems.

  • Bleed Areas and PDF Export

    I set my book up in indesign and have all the bleed areas marked out.  When i export to a pdf it comes out fine, but when i export to a pdf  using the documents bleed settings i get an issue.
    On the two pages facing each other the inside edge of each page is  switched with the page next to it. so on each page i have a strip of the  image from the left page on the right page and vice versa.
    What am i doing wrong? Indesign is pretty new to me and I havent been able to figure out what is causing this

    There's no harm in that at all. As the image falls outside the crop area. IT should be trimmed off when printed anyway.
    Usually the prepress will impose the file and it sort of sits in a container where the bleed wouldn't be visible on that edge anyway. And even if it is it's going into the spine. The chances of it appearing in the final printed piece is extremely slim.
    However, you can combat this by File>Export>PDF and go to the Marks and Bleeds - untick the Link button for the bleed and change the inside bleed to 0.
    Now you won't have any bleed on the inside pages.

  • Whether timestamp types are supported in oracle dynamic sql?

    Oracle has two dynamic sql models. The old and the new ANSI model. I wish to know where and how the timestamp oracle data types are supported.
    I am having trouble setting the timestamp data through pro*c using old dynamic sql. I tried to set it to raw 11 bytes and use type 187 (timestamp) and it segfaults! I try now to set it to string type and oracle says invalid month! I tried even using nls_timestamp_format setting but no luck. Obviously some thing is amiss.
    Can some body help me?
    I need this info rather urgently.
    Thanks.

    Yes it is possible
    TO_DATE(:variable,'FORMAT') in dynamic SQL

        what's more, what bd64 using for besides generating parter profiles,  must we use bd64 for outbound idocs?

    Hi jingying Sony
    You can compare the Idoc type and Version between Sender System and Reciver System.
    Use TCode SCMP and Compare the Table EDIMSG in Both System.
    This will solve your issue.
    Thanks
