How to include closed captions in captivate?

How to include closed captions in Captivate? I found that the
option is available in Accessibility, but it is disabled. How to
enable it? Anyone can help me please?

Welcome to our community, prabuu77
Closed Captioning is not available in Captivate until you add
a sound file. The thought is that you add a sound file containing
audio narration. Then you may add Closed Captioning.
Once you add a sound file to a slide (tap the F6 key and you
may add a sound file) you should see a Speaker icon on the slide in
the Film Strip. Click the Speaker icon and the menu that appears
should list Closed Captioning.

  • I need to know how to add closed captioning to a project Captivate 6

I need to know how to add closed captioning in a project in Adobe Captivate 6.  It is a software demo single recording.  I don't see where to go to create closed captions or change accessilbity preferences.

    Hi there,
First thing that you need to do is go to Project > Skin editor > and check the box for Closed Captioning button in playbar.
A slide must have a slide audio or Slide Video to add CC notes in it.
Go to Windows > Slide notes, to view the slide notes panel, and click on + sign to add Closed captioning notes.
Please check this article to add CC in project: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/slide-notes.html
Check this article for accessibility in Captivate : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/captivate/cp/using/WSc1b83f70210cd101-157ec7f211c7ef6052c-7fff .html
    Thanks.

  • Closed captions with Captivate 5

Although, I went through the help part and some of the earlier discussion it didnt solve my problem. I would simply like to include sub-titles (close-captions) on my slide. these are the instructions I followed:
Select the check boxes in the closed captions column and corresponds to the notes you want to convert to closed captions.
    Click Closed Captioning.
In the Closed Captioning of the Slide Audio dialog box, adjust the start time and end time for the caption.
Click the + icon to add additional closed captions. Click the ‘-’ icon to remove closed captions.
Click CC Project Settings to change the font, size, color, background, and the number of lines in which the captions must be displayed.
the thing is: although when I click on 'Captions & Slide Notes...' under 'Slide Audio' , the text seems to be included only under the Slide Notes and not under the Captions. And it does not allow me to copy/paste the text under the Captions tab. When I try checking the preview, the sub-titles are not visible.
I know I am working in the right area but just need a hint so I can finally have the closed captions. Screen shots would really help too:)
    Thanks.

Thank you for your helpful Adobe Captivate postings... Your material is better than Adobe's online help because you use visual screen shots and videos. Also you explain how to find comands in the Captivate menu.
    Adobe should hire you!

  • Scrollbar for closed captioning in Captivate 5???

    Hi,
Why is Captivate the red-headed step child and doesn't have a way to scroll the closed captioning text???
Does anyone know if this is possible? Sure, you can increase the height of the closed caption box, though this is not correct usability wise as it will obscure the content behind it when it is visible even when setting the background of the closed caption box to semi-transparent.
    Dan

I hope there are no red-heads or step children in the forum audience, or you might just have made yourself unpopular.
Hair coloring and family circumstances aside, Captivate's default behaviour for caption text is much the same as that for most other Flash-based authoring applications.  For example, try adding a scrolling text caption to PowerPoint, or any of the Rapid Authoring tools based on that platform that produce SWF output.
It's very easy to bag an app just because it may not have A particular feature you want, and in the same breath ignore the fact that it also happens to have such a commanding position in the market because it actually does far more than other apps overall.
For example, if you DO want to create a scrolling text area in Captivate you can do so with this widget:
    http://www.dorna.nl/?p=574
Widgets allow for extension of Captivate functionality in more ways than you can count. How many other e-learning authoring apps can you list that offer that capability?
Maybe this explains why I've always had a thing for red-heads...

  • How to set closed captioning to turn 'on' as default setting?

Does anyone know how to set the closed captioning so that
this feature is turned "on" as the default when people view the
finished product? As it stands right now, users must select the
"cc" button on the "control pad" to turn on closed captioning, but
I want it to automatically appear.

    Hi again
All you should have to do is to edit the first slide in
Captivate. Click Insert > Animation and point at the .SWF file.
Once you have done this, publish your project again and your Closed
    Captions should display automagickally.

  • Movie and TV purchases do not include closed captioning

I just started using AppleTV for movie and some TV show purchases.  Before I used Netflix via AppleTV exclusively.  The problem I am encountering is ITunes movie and TV productes do not come with closed captioning.
To troubleshoot I went to Settings, Audio & Video and checked 'closed captioning' to "ON".  But still no luck.
With Netflix everything came with 'cc' and I would like to order more from ITunes but I won't until I can figure out how to get 'cc' working.

Closed captioning is not available on all content, check the information at the point of purchase to see whether content has closed captioning or not.

  • How to remove closed captions?

    The procedure says
1 Press the Menu button on your remote control.
    2 Select Settings.
    3 Select Accessibility.
    4 Select Close Captions.
5 Select either On or Off and press OK.
However, under the menu Settings, I don't have the selection Accessibility
So, how do I do? Wher do I find the Accessibity sub-menu?

    Hello Olie,
The HD DVR (6416) boxes are the only box that do closed captioning from the box. All others pass that information straight through to the TV. This means you will have to check the TV's menu for its closed captioning setting, which can be accomplished either with the original TV remote or by using the fios remote and pressing TV then menu to bring up the TV's menu.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to do closed captions

How do I do closed captions on my Final cut pro X ? OR, failing that, how do I write in MY text into these "title clouds" that I have placed, where the lyrics to my song, start ?  This Final cut proX that my brother in-law got for me SO-FAR is killing me,& threatening to smash my laptop. I have the latest upgrade for my Macbook Pro.  I forget what stupid name snow sniffing leopold or Lion king-fling.  Anyway -- closed caption would be best , to have my music video WITH lyrics, but this "Title" thing should work .... I have some "title-clouds" placed, but cannot write in any text ;  I cannot replace the text the clouds come with..."name / description"  ---  seems to me ,  that Noone would want to have these clouds stay without modifing this lettering.....HELP  TY
Also ,  how do I sorten length of time these "clouds" are visible?

Drag the end of the clip to make it shorter. Double click the words in the viewer to change them.
Not sure clouds is going to work for you as it's a lower third and has two word blocks thatcan't be extended. You might want to delete them, put basic text on top of it and position it over the clouds like this.

  • Closed Captions in Captivate 7

I am a "power user" of Captivate, and have just migrated from version 6 to version 7. A vast improvement by the way.
So far, it appears that I can only write closed captions one slide at a time. But there are various solutions in other "cloud" software that I'd like to see Captivate 7 incorporate.
What about writing closed captions "on-the-fly"? Instead of saving each slide's captions and closing the dialogue box, why not just advance to the next slide and continue writing closed captions? If one types more slowly, why not use the "tab" key or something similar to pause the audio until the typing catches up with it? This would be a tremendously convenient feature.
What about auto-captioning in the way that it's done in Adobe Presenter Video Creator 9?  For slower typists, this feature would allow for editing words that did not translate properly, conveniently.  Please note that YouTube, too, offers auto-captioning in a like manner.
These are two features that could go into an incremental upgrade of Captivate 7, no? If not, then please release Captivate 8 with these features ASAP!
For higher education, the context for creating closed captions is urgent and very high priority. Landmark court cases are forcing our college, and likewise all others, to ramp up accessibility and to do it as quickly as possible.  The features I'm suggesting would facilitate that ramp-up.

I also agree with your suggestions but posting them here on this forum is of very little use.
If you want any chance of having them taken seriously by Adobe, this is where you need to post them:

  • Closed Captions in Captivate 5 - location, justification

Tried searching the forums for an answer, but search appears to be broken...
Can you center justify the words in closed captions?  Or otherwise format the text (bold, etc.)?
Aside from buying a widget, is there any way to move/resize the caption bar?  Ideally I'd like it to appear below the recording but above the nav bar.  Is this possible?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
If you seriously want to voice your displeasure to Adobe, please consider sending them a message using the channel they are tuned into. That channel is the Wish Form and is also the same page used to collect Bug Reports. Link to the form is in my sig.

  • How to extract closed captions from flash video player

I would like to extract the closed captions from this video:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/president-obama-explains-why-health-insur ance-reform-crucial-small-business
(Yes, it's legal, this video is in the public domain)
Is there any way this can be done?

Mystery solved!  As I was writing a long description of everything I've tried I came to a realization:
    1) Neither the CC nor subtitle buttons did anything on a blu-ray player, TV, or computer.
    2) None of the programs I tried were seeing a subtitle or CC track
    3) Therefore the subtitles must be hardcoded into the video
    4) But mpeg streamclip and handbrake both showed only one video track.
    5) Therefore the single video track must contain both versions of the video.
I went back to the mpeg2 I had demuxed with mpeg streamclip and sure enough, it was twice as long as it should be.  I skimmed through it (which I hadn't done yet since I was so caught up with the subtitles) and saw the clean version and then right after, the subtitled version.  The original DVD authors must have made a script so that the buttons would only play whichever half of the video track you chose.
If I had only double-checked the mpeg2 after demuxing it I wouldn't have wasted so many hours of my life!

  • How to add closed captioning in Czech language in Premiere Pro?

    Hi,
I have subtitles translated to Czech language.
Copying them into closed captions blocks, result in showing some of the characters wrong.
    I am stuck!!!
    Any solution?

    This is just unbelievable.
So much struggle with those closed captions. So many hours of try and error, ending up with more error than not.
I followed all the instructions to embed closed captions in 2 different QuickTime output files.
One video shows the captions, the other shows it inconsistently. When it does show the closed captions, it skips the first sentence's caption.
Also, I used 2 colors in order to distinguish between the speech of the 2 characters who talk in the video. However, the colors do not always display accordingly.
Very often it shows the shows only one color or the opposite to my specification.
For the problematic video out of the 2, I have been trying almost all of the format presets available.
    Terrible !!!!!
    Help!!!!

  • How to extract closed captions from DVD

Hi all, been doing research for the past week and testing out different free programs on mac & PC, but I can't seem to figure out a way to extract a CC track from a DVD a client gave me.
Basically I'm re-authoring a DVD with a new menu in Encore.  I have the mpeg2 & aif demuxed using mpeg streamclip.  But I can't figure out how to get the CC track using any program (like subrip, jubler, etc).  Just about all of them seem only capable of recognizing subtitle tracks.
As a last ditch solution, are there any encoders that will at least see the captions so that I can hardcode them?  I know it's not ideal to encode an mpeg2 from an mpeg2 source but I'm at wit's end.

Mystery solved!  As I was writing a long description of everything I've tried I came to a realization:
    1) Neither the CC nor subtitle buttons did anything on a blu-ray player, TV, or computer.

  • Embedded closed captions not viewable

I have read most of the threads on embedded closed captions in this forum and after experiencing similar problems I have come to the conclusion that embedding captions in QT .mov files is not properly implemented. I could be wrong. I hope someone can show that is the case.
    Steps taken:
    1) created a closed caption track in a 2:40 minute Video as the top level video track (V4 in my case) using the CEA 608 CC1 caption stream. Captions show up in the program window properly enabled.
    2) Exported the entire clip directly from Premier Pro CC 2014  as a Quicktime .mov file with captions "embedded in Output file" (also tried exporting through Media Encoder--same results noted below).
Closed captions DO NOT show up in the resulting .mov file when played in Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5, even with subtitles set to "automatic"
Closed captions DO NOT show up in VLC Media Player 2.1.5 or 2.0.5.
Closed captions DO NOT show up when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 10.1.1 and played in Safari. This is my target destination and is critical.
Closed captions DO show up when the mov file is re-imported into Premier Pro and that clip is active in the preview window.
Closed captions DO show up when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 7 when "Show closed captioning" is active in the "View" menu. Quicktime Player 7 reveals that a "Closed Captions" video track exists as track #3 in the mov file under "Movie Properties".
I have uploaded the .mov file discussed above and made it available for public download if anyone can help me figure out how to get closed captioning to work. It is intended to be played on an iPad from a Self-Guided Tour app under development, which will play it using the native IOS video player when the file thumbnail is clicked. If the IOS Video Player is the same as QT Player 10.3 on a Mac, it defaults to "subtitles automatic". I don't know for certain, however.
Please note that this file, while a draft version, is the property of the California Automobile Museum which reserves all rights to its use including reposting, copying or modifying.

Thanks for the posting on the forums here. I downloaded your file and I looked at it in the following places:
    GENERAL PLAYBACK MAC
    10.8.5 (12F45)
    with QuickTime 10.3
I could see the closed captioning in the player.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 (13A603)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.1)
I could see the closed captioning in the player -- had to set it under View-> Subtitles-> English CC
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 updated to 10.9.5 (13F34)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.4)
Closed captions are not being displayed, under any setting (choice is Off or AUTO) -- appears to be an update problem.
This is not just a failure of PPRO embedded closed caption MOVs, but also embedded MOVs from other closed caption authoring solutions like Telestream, and Annotation Edit.
I can log a bug on my side, but the problem is not in PPRO -- I'd check with Apple on this.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    VLC MEDIA PLAYER
It appears from my quick testing with VLC Media Player --  VLC Media Player is not detecting embedded closed captions in files from PPRO, nor from other industry standard closed caption authoring solutions, like from Telesteam, they make MacCaption and Caption Maker. I also checked embedded files from Annotation Edit, another widely used caption authoring solution, and VLC Media Player does not detect embedded closed captioning in those files, either.
I encourage you to look on the side of VLC Media Player for the failure to display closed captions.
    IPAD AIR PLAYBACK
In my testing, I did not test this equipment configuration. If you think you have a problem, please consider logging a bug.
Thanks again for posting here, I hope I answered your questions! If not, let me know, and I'll reply again.
