How to include trash as favorite in finder window

Is there an easy way to include "trash" as one of the favorites in a finder window? (If the answer includes using Terminal, then to me that="no")

Do you mean add it to the Sidebar?
In the Finder, first set a window to column view mode (Command-3), then press Shift-Command-G (the shortcut for Go -> Go to Folder). In the drop-down sheet that appears, enter ~/.Trash and press Return. This will open a window showing the contents of your user’s trash can. then Control-Command-T (the shortcut for File > Add to Sidebar).

  • How do I add iCloud drive to Favorites in Finder window?

Due to an accident with a mouse with a dying battery, I managed to remove iCloud drive item from the Favorites in the Finder window. If you do it with one, they're all missing it. So how do I restore it? I can't find any way to do it. Help articles are utterly useless as they say nothing on the matter. I don't even know what iCloud drive is and yet I have apparently permanently removed it from the favorites list.

I feel like a *******, since it seems obvious now. I guess when you're so close to the matter you don't see it.
    Thanks for the advice.

  • Trying to move files to trash takes forever, and finder windows take forever to load files/apps

after recently installing Mackeeper (yes, I know..) and attempting to uninstall, my macbook pro 13" al. is taking forever to move a file to the trash, and it equally takes forever to open a finder window. running 10.6.8.

MacKeeper is an exception to the rule that system modifications should be uninstalled according to the developer's instructions. Although not generally recognized as such, MacKeeper is in fact a trojan, because the developer distributes an uninstaller that purports to delete it, but leaves behind something that causes popup ads to appear in the user’s web browser. Try following the instructions here:

I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of those instructions, but others seem to have had success with them.

  • How to drag file from desktop into Finder window?

I use the four finger gesture to reveal my desktop, then I drag and file and intend to put it in one of the Finder windows that was there before the "reveal desktop" gesture. How do I get the windows to come back while the file is being dragged? There seems to be no hot corner or keyboard shortcut for "unrevealing" the desktop.

Got it! That was SO EASY...thank you very much

  • How to view file item count in finder window?

    Hi all,
Pre-Lion, I had things set up so that I was able to view the number of files/items in a finder window that was in list view. This information would show up at the bottom of my finder windows. I know I had intially pressed some kind of OS X shortcut to get it to show up there and now would *really* like to be able to easily view that information once again. Not only did I get a file count, I was also shown a file path if I clicked on one of the files in the finder window.
For the life of me though I just cannot remember how to do this. Can anyone help me out?
Thank you very much in advance:)

  • How do I make image icons in finder window previews of the image?

The image icons in my finder window are just generic jpeg icons (they are set to open automatically in Preview). How do I make them previews of the images themselves? When I "get info" on the icon, there is a very nice preview of the image - I would like to see the same quality preview in the icons themselves.
Thank you very much for your help.

    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Sam,
From your Finder "View" menu (without a Finder window open) >> "Show view options" >> do you have "show icon preview" check marked? And with the Finder window open "show icons" and "show preview icons" checkmarked?
EDIT: I may have misunderstood your question. If you're talking about the small file icons, not in the preview frame if you have PhotoShop it should do it with a save as PS file. Otherwise you may be able to paste the image but I'm not sure.

  • How to restore iphone/ipod icon in Finder window?

I accidentally deleted my ipod icon a while back and now can't seem to restore the icon in the finder window even with my new iphone.  How can I restore this? I can find the files on the ipod and iphone in other applications (ie. itunes and iphoto) but just not in the finder.
    Thank you.

You can restore the iPod icon by doing a "reset home screen layout" on the Iphone. Go to Settings ->General -> Reset -> Reset Home Screen Layout. It will come back

  • How do i show icloud in the Finder window?

I've read tricks on how to show iCloud as a virtual folder to store files.  They all say to show the hidden Library and find "Moblile Documents"  But i don't have this.  What am i doing wrong?
I want to be able to create a document in word on my mac, go home and open it on my ipad and make adjustements, then come back to work and open it again and see all my adjustments.

No it does not work this way.
To work in that way under finder I whould suggest you to try GoodReader. https://itunes.apple.com/it/app/goodreader-for-ipad/id363448914?mt=8
It costs about 5,00$ but can do a lot of things like WiFi transfer for any file and you will be able to see the iPad as a Disc on the Mac undr Findr.
But since you have everythyng correct it is strange you do not have the sayd Folder.
Let me ask one more question?
Have you searched under your user account  Library ?  There is also a Library in the main HardDisc, which is not hidden and does not contain the sayed folder.
Sorry to ask but it is the only idea I have at the moment why do you not find the folder.
PS: Good reader has nothing to do with iCloud. It trasnfers files between iMac and iPad/iPhone

  • How do I view folders' size in Finder Window?

I have a folder (i.e. dropbox) in which are about 28 folders, with more folders and files located within each.  I need an easy way to calculate the size of each folder as a whole so I know which folder is the largest in size and taking up the most amount of space.  Get info. on each folder is super tedious and would open up a ton of windows in Finder if I wanted to see every folder.
Column view only shows and sorts "size" (which I have displayed) by individual files, not the folders themselves as far as I can see.  And when I "show view options" ⌘j, and "arrange by" "size" or "sort by" "size" it still doesn't seem to sort by size accurately.
Any short cuts to avoid "get info" on 28 folders and then looking at each one, one by one, to determine the hierarchical order by size?
    Thanks.

Select the folder, CMD+J, and ensure Calculate all sizes is checked. That should give you all folder sizes.

  • Same Finder window is following me to every space. Please help.

So everytime I switch between a space, the same finder window is following me to every single screen. I'm not sure how to turn this off so every finder window stays on it's space seperately.

This is in Lion, so I'm using Mission Control, which is bundled with spaces. It's not called spaces anymore.

  • Save finder window size

anyone know how to permanently enlarge and position the FINDER window?
no one could figure it out in the Apple store one to one nor w/ tech support..
When I open any icon on desktop am trying to force the new folder/window to permanently stay in a large screen mode with enlarged COLUMNs?
    thanks!

I don't think you can keep the column sizes, but it should reopen to the same size.
If it is not, the .DS_Store file is either corrupt or you don't have access to it.
The file is hidden inside each folder where you have set specific display options.
Try deleting the file in those folders, then try to set them up as you wish.
If you don't know how to use the Terminal, the way I find hidden files is to enable the file visibility search criteria.
Open the Folder and type cmd-F to bring up the search criteria. In the Kind popup menu, select Other...
Find the File Visibility Item and check the checkbox. While there, add the System Files option, also.
Pick File visibility from the menu and choose Invisible Items from the other popup menu.
You should then see the .DS_Store file and you can delete it from there.
Close the window, then reopen and set the display options as you like.

  • Finder Window View Options

Hi, How do i go about setting my finder window to always display the same settings?
I basically want Icon view, with the same grid spacing and same icon size with 10pt text in ALL windows , pressing the default button does not set it globally.
    Both are different below
    http://drp.ly/C3k5w
    http://drp.ly/C3Ab2

Setting a Finder view, then clicking the "Use as Defaults" button is a very undependable way to have a global view maintained throughout an entire hard drive, and any connected drives. It will, the first time you navigate your hard drive(s), but as soon as you make a change to a view on-the-fly (ex: via the Finder Toolbar menu button), that new view will be adopted by next opened folder. This is actually handy if you like browser style navigation rather than a more spatial approach.
The only way to keep this behavior from occurring is to open the View Options while in a given folder (Command-J or Finder/View/Show View Options), make your view adjustment, then tick the "Always open in..." check box. Of course, this would be very time consuming if you wanted your entire drive (and any connected drives) to open predictably every time without exception.
My solution, which has been suggested above, is to create a Workflow app with the view settings you like, make sure to tick the "Apply Changes to Sub-folders". Drop your hard drive, or folder, you want to apply the view settings to onto it. It will run, opening every folder and making the view adjustment. It runs very fast, but could take some time, depending on the number of sub-folders. I would also not recommend running it on the top level Library folder, or System folder.
