Hi I have just up-graded to to a Nokia 5800 XM which seems the "bees knees" to me as I have never had such an all singing and dancing mobile phone before (had a 6230i about 5 years as my up-grades usually went to daughters or not taken but 6230i lost it's life a couple of weeks ago when it toook an accidental dip in the washing up bowl *) )
I like lots about the new phone , especially the QWERTY keyboard - I can actually do texts now as the old way on key pad took me forever! Oh and handwriting tablet is great - can even write texts!
The only down side is the "display screen" seems rather dim in average to bright daylight ( I am not visually impaired not particularly mentally impaired either as a teacher) SO DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE SCREEN BRIGHTER?

Do you mean you'd like the display at a higher resolution? It should be displaying the default, which is also its physical maximum resolution, unless you set it lower in display prefs.

I have an 15" early 2011 MBP with Snow Leopard and reccently installed 64-bit Windows 7 Pro using an upgrade disk I had. Apparently the backup/upgrade disk would allow me to do a clean install despite not having a previous version of windows to base it off of now that XP is no longer supported.
I had no initial problems installing Windows and getting the bootcamp software fully updated (3.2 I believe,) but while I was in the process of updating all of my windows software things started getting messy. I managed to update some windows functions, but eventually I ran into a real problem after downloading what I believe to be a service pack (not sure which one) that was recommended by the windows updater. After downloading the update, the computer needed to be reset.
Upon resetting the laptop, I found that the option screen that lets you choose which partition to boot into is completely black. I can tell that the display is on because the screen is somewhat brighter than when the laptop is off, but I can't see anything.
For grins, I tried seeing if hitting the right arrow key and then enter would take me to my windows partion, which it did. The loading screen (with the windows icon approaching and illuminating) is completely fine; however, after that loading screen, the screen appears to turn off (nothing, zilch, nada.) I let it sit there for about 5 minutes or so and still had nothing. Upon hard-resetting my computer, I found that when I tried booting windows again it gave me the options to boot into safe mode. Safe mode works and gives full brightness, normal mode does not.
I looked on the forums and saw that deleting C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ATIKMDAG.SYS could fix the issue. I downloaded Paragon, mounted the bootcamp partition and removed the offending file from my mac partition.
The option screen was still black, but the login screen appeared after the computer tried to finish patching (the service pack patch failed.) The problem then was that the screen was incredibly dim at full brightness. I had control of the brightness settings via fn+f1/f2. All it took was dimming the screen 3 notches in order to make it go completely black. I logged in and tried updating the radeon video card, reset the computer and found myself back at the off screen issue mentioned earlier after the windows loading screen.
I have yet to check, as this process has been extremely tiring and annoying, but I think I can fix the completely dead screen by removing the driver again. I gave this long story to show what I have done so hopefully I cam get a response I
My burning questions are:
What do I need to do to get the screen back to full brightness when I do get my laptop to boot into windows successfully?
How do I fix my option screen to actually show up again instead of blindly picking the partition I want to boot into?
Are there any windows updates that I need to avoid for 64-bit windows 7? I'm guessing whatever service pack it was I downloaded is one of them.

I don't use the search engine, so I'm afriad I don't have direct experience here.
What I'd probably do is modify the app so that it looks at the Host data to determine which directory it should point to for graphics, formatting, etc. You could also use the obj.conf with variables to pull graphics from directories appropriately branded. Something like:
1) Create "additional doc directory" for images
2) Find the entry in the obj.conf that points to the new directory
3) Modify the path to something like /path/to/$host/images
4) Make sure you create directories like:
/path/to/foobar.com/images/
/path/to/www.foobar.com/images/
/path/to/baz.com/images/
/path/to/www.baz.com/images/

you're going to have to be a bit clearer on what you mean by "brightness" increasing brightness in terms of the colourspace concept will make the shapes look paler. perhaps you mean contrast? using 00FF00 really should be visible enough as it is.
As this is not strictly a flex issue oyu might try actionscript forums instead or take a look at the ColourTransform class

Can any one help me.
The Home Key on my X22 thinkpad is die.
And the problem are: I press Fn+End many time to decrease the brightness of my screen.
Now, It very hard to see anything in my screen.
Is there any software to swap the Home Key to other key, so i can use the Fn+(new Home key) to increase my LCD screen.

How do I set which display (screen) firefox starts on?

I want firefox to start in my main display for a two display computer. Unlike IE, which remembers which display it was on when it was closed, firefox always starts on a specific display (the wrong one for me).

You dont suppose i can just modify a plist or something to make boxee appear on my second display? Or does the OS deal with all of that stuff?
Nope. The definition of "main monitor" is tied to the manu bar locations and there's no way I know of to change that.
I saw a video on youtube where a person was able to run a fullscreen app on his second display. He had no idea how he had mangaed it and thats why he posted the video. However, as with all fullscreen apps, the other display just had the gray linin wallpaper.
I know that flash video has the convention the it will open full screen on to the monitor that the small display is currently on. Veetle was the first and only video playback I have (personally) encountered that used the main display as the determining factor.
Really i think apple needs to stop dumming down OS X with iOS features and fix a bunch of simple problems like this one. I can't believe how little controll we have over displays, yet there's countless disscussions about it online. Personally i never used more than one display on tiger, leopard or snow leopard, so i dont know if this is a new problem or not? A lot of people seem to be pointing the finger at lion with it's fullscreen mode.
Dummying down is the word I use for the direction OSX is going. It was dumbed down for Lion and apparently from the little I have read made even dumber for Mountain Lion.

There isn't a way but you can...take note of your exposure slider setting, crank it down a couple of stops, tweak your crop, return your exposure setting to where it was.
Not elegant but I use it outdoors on my laptop when it is too bright to see what is going on.

1. I have use the fn+home on the keyboard.

There's a setting in the BIOS - Display Brightness (high or normal). Try setting it to high. If this doesn't work, you may have a problem with your display.

W540 with Apple 27" Thunderbolt display - how to control brightness?

Hi everyone-
I have a colleague's hand-me-down 27" Apple Thunderbolt display that I wanted to try to run on my W540, which runs Win7 x64 Enterprise.
I connect to the notebook port (do not see this port on my dock) and basic display appears.
I cannot control the brightness and the display is at a dim default level.
I tried two general online recipes to fix this situation - 1) installing Bootcamp services [1] and using the control panel and 2) installing a BrightnessController windows program [2] that is supposed to talk directly over the Thunderbolt device connection.
I could not get either one to work - Bootcamp services did not show a Brightness tab (it has that capability if the stars align) and the BrightnessController app said it could never detect the display device. I uninstalled the Bootcamp sevices to try to allow this app "exclusive" access to Thunderbolt devices, but it didn't make any difference.
The only other pieces of data I have are:
- in the Intel Graphics control panel app, it recognizes the display as a "Thunderbolt display". I can play around with some color balance settings, but these don't seem to be talking natively to the display (increasing brightness results in terrible washout of colors)
- in Windows Device Manager, my display appears as a "Generic PnP" monitor. I've never seen it described as something Apple-specific (maybe due to no specific Windows driver for it - even after Bootcamp services install)
I've read bits and pieces of Thunderbolt display issues on Lenovo forums, but nothing seemed to match my question for native hardware brightness control.
Does anyone have any useful inputs - success stories, ideas for things to try?

Also! Just tried installing the "Intel Thunderbolt Software" that was available from Lenovo System Update (did not see that before) - once installed, I could use the Brightness Controller app [1]

1) I think the screen brightness is about 180 nits for this qosmio model. If I change the graphics card, can I increase the brightness to 300 NITS levels? If yes, which card do you suggest? If not, how can I achieve this?
2) When I view the screen in 100 % magnitude, then the texts are too small to read. But then when I view the screen in 125 % or higher, then the texts go blurry. Is there a way to avoid this?

You can't change the display in the Mail app, if you are holding the iPad in landscape orientation then the left-hand third will be for navigation, and the right-hand two-thirds will be an email. If you hold the iPad in portrait orientation then the navigation section becomes a drop-down section.

I have a 13" MacPro, love it, but its display is a little small for how far away i sit at my desk. I have a second 21" monitor that i would like to use for this purpose, but whenever i close the laptop screen it shuts down the signal for the second screen as well.
