How to increase performance for early '06 iMac

I am an iMac newbie (so please pardon my ignorance) having just purchased a second-hand iMac. I am very keen on increasing the current performance substantially due to the fact that I will be in the near-term using some rather advanced software.
In other words, are there any steps I can undertake from a hardware perspective (e.g. increase the amount/speed of RAM, etc.)to increase the speed and performance of my recently purchased computer? Please let me know if any additional detail is needed. Thank you so much and I am excited to join the iMac community.

Hi Todd
You and Barbara are correct, the Early Core Duo's only support 2GB of RAM.

Like lenn5 say's below a Hard Drive swap might help a little, the [Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160.0 GB|http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=3f9b3b0c2aeef010VgnVCM100000 f5ee0a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=f424072516d8c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US &reqPage=Legacy] in my 3 year old Core Duo only has a SUSTAINED TRANSFER RATE up to 58 (MB/sec).

  • How do I perform maintenance  on my iMac SSD Drive so I can extend it's life

I recently purchased a Mid 2011 27" 3.4GHZ i7 /16GB Memory iMac and would like to know how do I perform maintenance  on my iMac SSD Drive so I can extend it's life, Does apple now support Trimm or is there some thing else I need to do? Defrag?  I do not store anything thing but OS and APPS on the drive
    thanks

There is nothing you need to do to the SSD. Do not attempt to defrag an SSD as there is no need and uses the device excessively. TRIM is supported only if the SSD is an Apple device so if you reformat the SSD there's no need to Zero Data for garbage collection.

    Hi All,
for all java projects and java applications in eclipse i am giving -Xms and -Xmx to increase heap memory.
But the same failed when i run ant. it says Out of Memory Error.eventhough i had 1GB ram in system.
How to increase memory for Building through ANT.
    Thanks,

even if this is not a eclipse forum
In the package explorer view or navigator view right click on the build file select "Run as / Ant Build ...". On the JRE Tab you can enter the VM Aguments like -Xmx512m
Consult the java dokumentation how to set the memory of the jvm.

  • Where can i download audio drivers for early 2006 imac?

please help me to download audio driver for my early 2006 imac that i purchased USED my built-in mic does not work! THANK YOU

It most likely is disconnected or broken if someone has been working on that iMac.
Go to: Apple > About This Mac > More Info and in the Hardware secton select Audio (Built-in) and see if the Internal Microphone is listed there.
If it is, then go to: Applications > Utilities > open Audio MIDI Setup > select Built-in Input and fiddle around with the settings to see if you can get it working.
If not, then you need to have the Built-in Mic serviced and/or replaced.
Alternately there are Mac compatible USB Mic's and iSight Cameras out there that work well with iMac's.

how to increase internal hd capacity on iMac

You would probably need to take your iMac in to an Authorized Apple Service Center and pay them to replace your harddrive with a unit with more storage capacity.  You could try to do it yourself, but it is very labor intensive.
    Hope this helps

  • How to obtain idvd for my new iMac

How do i obtain idvd for my new imac?

obtain idvd for my new imac?
If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

    800-692-7753
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

  • How to increase performance of adobe forms of MSS Business package

    Hi
We have implemented MSS business package with  PCR adobe forms.
    Portal NW04 SP18, ERP 2004 , ADS is Nw04sp16 and abode reader 7.0.7.
we have develped own PCR using existing ISR frame work.
every thing working fine.but user facing performance problem like some times while opening pcr form ,browser gets hang up.
Is there any way to increase performance of adobe forms of PCR.
    thanks In advance
    Gopal

    Hi!
Interactive Forms need a lot of performance on the client side. If the client hangy up I think this is realted to client issues.
Also I would update the forms server to be the same version as the other NW components (Portal).

  • How to increase performances of a program??

What are the steps you follow to improve performances of programe?
What is the table related to SCHEDULE LINE AGREEMENTS IN SD??

    Hi,
VBEH and VBEP are the tables for Schedule lines
    1. To improve performance for programs...
Dont use into corresponding fields - use into table
Check the performance using the JOin and For all entries , then go on with good one
for comparision delete dupicate entries of checking table
Declare the table fileds as they appear in the db table position wise
try to get the max comparision fields and input parameters
Sort the int table and use read statement with binary search.
use a single loop to modify the itab based on read statement
    and also chk this.

  • Snow Leopard for Early Intel iMac 2006 - Worth it?

    I was curious....
I wonder if anyone could tell me if going to Snow Leopard from Tiger on a mid 2006 Intel iMac would be worth the money and trouble. The upgrades on some of my apps are tempting, but would there be a significant difference in performance?
I know my Mac, with its Intel Core Duo, is 32 bit. Does Snow Leopard really boost speed and performance on a a 32 bit chip, as opposed to 64?

"I with the (mad) hatter. I prefer be as sure as I can that I don't bring any existing problems forward to a new system--especially Sno (i.e., Sno seems to generate some exceptionally hard problems to solve)."
    Hi Ghost:
That's what good backups (clones) are for. Also if you are unsure of your 10.5 integrity, an archive
and install will fix any problem before upgrading to Snowie. That may seam like overkill, and in some cases it may very well be. It just depends on how complex your 10.5 install is. Mine
consisted of over 200 apps. I use my machine for web development. It just isn't practical to do
a clean install. Spending two weeks or more (off and on) getting everything back somewhere close
to working order is just not acceptable at all. Migration assistant leaves a lot to be desired too
when you try to migrate a installation such as mine. It will break registration on just about every
    piece of software in sight.
If you use your computer just to surf the 'net, chit chat, email and play songs and movies, then by
all means do a "clean install" and migrate or reinstall the rest.

  • How to increase performance in webi report?

    Hi Experts,
I have create report top of universe with 1 query. But inside report i created multiple tabs.Data also less but while executing the report it will take so much time. How should decrease the waiting time.
    I followed performance optimization:
    1. ALL formula created in Bex itself.
    2.Enable Query Stripping
    3. Remove auto width and auto height.
    4.scheduling the report.
Please tell another some performance tuning.

You'll want to determine where the time is being spent.  You can trace the BW side to see how long it is taking on that end but it is probably the design of the report that is taking the time.  Are you using a UNV universe going to a BEx query or a BICs based connection?
Query Stripping is automatically on for BI 4.0 SP5+ for BICs connectivity.  There are also a number of optimizations that can help improve performance in the newer Support Packages.
Determining where the bottleneck is is the first step.
    thanks

  • Windows 7 - 64 bit and WMware Workstation installed SAP IDES EHP - how to increase performance

    Hello,
    Can someone help me please.

I have installed SAP IDES EHP 6 on external disk (USB 3.0) and use VMware workstation 10.0.1.
    Quesition:
How can I increase speed when using SAP application.
PS: I am a beginner in using VMware.
    System on Notebook:
    Win 7 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, I5 CPU 1,6 GHz
Thank you for your answer and help.
    all the best Erwin

I've not done it yet with 11g, but prior editions, there are 3 things that have to be done to eradicate an oracle client installation from Windows, after running uninstaller
    1) delete the registry key HKLM\software\oracle
    2) delete the ORACLE_HOME directory from the file system
    3) delete c:\Program Files\oracle

  • How to increase performance speed of Photoshop CS6 v13.0.6 with trasformations in LARGE image files (25,000 X 50,000 pixels) on IMac3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB memory, Mac OS 10.7.5?   Should I purchase a MacPro?

I have hundreds of these large image files to process.  I frequently use SKEW, WARP, IMAGE ROTATION features in Photoshop.  I process the files ONE AT A TIME and have only Photoshop running on my IMac.  Most of the time I am watching SLOW progress bars to complete the transformations.
I have allocated as much memory as I have (about 14GB) exclusively to Photoshop using the performance preferences panel.  Does anyone have a trick for speeding up the processing of these files--or is my only solution to buy a faster Mac--like the new Mac Pro?

  • Buying an external drive for early 2008 imac?

Hi,is there any reasonable way to add external storage to my "legacy" (pre thunderbolt / usb3) imac?
would a firewire hd (assuming one can be found), besides paying a premium for obsolence
involve tossing it out in a year or two, when replacing the imac for a more current model?
on the other hand, would a usb3/thunderbolt drive need some sort of converter (assuming such a thing is around)
to plug into the imacs firewire port, getting you usb2 level performance?
I've seen similar threads on this topic, but not thusly phrased.

For performance, your best bet is a good quality FireWire drive.  You didn't say what model iMac you have, but most FW drives have both FW400 and FW800 ports.  If you are doing large file transfers, video or just using the drive continuously, FireWire is the way to go.  The specs for USB2 would seem to indicate that it's as fast as FireWire, but in real life that's not true.
Here are some suggestions; most come in various capacities.  Check B&H Photo, Newegg or other online vendors for good prices & delivery:
    Lacie D2 Quadra
    G-Tech G-drive or G-Drive mini
    OWC Mercury Elite
If you get a new Mac with a Thunderbolt port, you can use the Apple Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter to connect your FireWire drive to your new Mac, so there's no "FW drive obsolescence" in the forseeable future.

  • How to improve performance for Custom Extractor in BI..

    HI all,
I am new to BI and started working on BI for couple of weeks.. I created a Custom Extractor(Data View) in the Source system and when i pull data takes lot of time.. Can any one respond to this, suggesting how to improve the performance of my custom Extractor.. Please do the needfull..
      Thanks and Regards,
    Venugopal..

    Dear Venugopal,
use transaction ST05 to check if your SQL statements are optimal and that you do not have redundant database calls. You should use as much as possible "bulking", which means to fetch the required data with one request to database and not with multiple requests to database.
Use transaction SE30 to check if you are wasting time in loops and if yes, optimize the algorithm.
    Best Regards,
    Sylvia
