How to insert symbols using my mac?

I already went to system preferences and clicked on Input Sources and did all that jazz. I have the flag in the upper right hand corner and I can view the different characters but there is no way to input them? Any suggestions? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. + I'm new to Mac.

Open the Character Viewer (should be in the Input Menu, the one with the flag on it), and locate the character you want.
Place your cursor in the text document where you want the character, then double-click the character in Character Viewer.

Hi Tom, and everyone else. I've just switched from keynote '09 to 6.5.2 (2119). I'm slowing working things out, but I can use some help with this:
I like the futura font, but the question mark is bizarre. I used to be able to use edit/'special characters' to insert a question mark from a different font, but I'm now having trouble with that. I expand out the pop-up menu and go to punctuation (or punctuation - all). The first row, fourth column gives me a question mark. Double-click selecting it gives me a '?' in the futura font, as expected. I go to 'font variation' - that's what I want. But all of these give me the same futura font!
What am I doing wrong?

(If I go to 'related characters', I can get 'double', 'small' or 'full width' marks. "Full width" looks different from the futura font, but it includes a big blank area to the right of the character, so I stick with the original "question mark".)

How to insert values using pushputtons in text item & fetch data based on

Dear friends,
I want to insert values in the Text item using pushbutton e.g to insert 05CST884 into text item using pushbuttons '0' '5' 'C' 'S' 'T' '8' '8' '4' (alpha numeric buttons) in the layout editor and then fetch data based on the number entered with that of one in the table in the another text item2 in the layout editor.
Suggestions regarding how to develop and use effective triggers are welcome.

At the block level (for the control block where all your push buttons are, let's call it block1) create a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger. Your [A-Z] and [0-9] buttons should be on a dedicated non-database datablock to reduce problems. As stated previously, this trigger should just contain the code:

Also on the pushbutton block, create a backspacve button with its own dedicated WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger containing:

This will hopefully erase the last character entered.
block2 should be based on the database table (see Property Palette --> Database) you wish to query and text_item should be based on the database item which contains the code you entered. All the other database items you wish to displayshould also be added to block2.
Add another FIND push button to block1 with the code:
go_block('block2');
execute_query;
Without writing the whole thing for you, I'd suggest you get a decent Forms tutorial book to guide you through the basics (Oracle Forms Developers Handbook).

How do i program using my mac?

I've just started a course doing computer programming and bought a mac from the student website as it said it has everything you'll need, we are learning to program using c++ and i have no idea how to do that on my mac. all i can gather is that the windows terminal i'm used to uses ms-dos and my mac terminal uses bash, clearly they need different commands and programs and i can't find any info on the net about how to convert the programs. would really appreciate some help as the only alternative i can think of is to rune windows on a virtual box which will cost me 200 euro to download.

How do I restrict use of mac mini to one website only?

Hi Geniuses!
I want to set up a Mac Mini in my office that can only be used to browse 1 website and nothing else. I don't want any user other than Admin to have the ability to change any settings, download any apps, install any software or browse the net other than to the specified website we have restricted Safari or Firefox or what to.
The website is an online testing site for my staff training program, so the user logs onto the website with his/her username and password and then can write tests online.
I hope there are some very simple ways to achieve the above. I will be using a Mac Mini which has been set up as a server somehow and running OSX10.6.8.
The startup disk says Server HD so not sure if I should change this machine to not be a server? Or is there a way to log into the second partition which is labelled Macintosh HD2?

Thanks for that advice andyBall_uk I did look in the Library under System and found the ParentalControls.prefPane and when trying to open with System Preferences I got an error message stating:
"You can't open the "Parental Controls" preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time.
To see this preferences pane, you may need to connect a device to your computer."
Any ideas as to what I may have to connect to my computer? I did not download Workgroup Manager as yet.

How to host domain using my Mac.

Hi. I have a registered domain, and want to host it using solely my Mac. How would one go about doing this, perhaps using the built in Apache server? I have Adobe Dreamweaver and already have built my site, I just want to host it.
What else would I need to do this? (Software wise)
If anyone would know the answer, I know it would be you geniuses!

@agautier21, both Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard Server come with Apache and PHP preinstalled. If I'm not mistaken these products are actually updated to a very recent (not most recent) stable release too! I currently am running both operating systems at home just for this very same purpose.
Typing:
"httpd -version" in the command line will give you the current version of Apache running on your OS and;
"php --version" will provide you with your PHP current version.
I have Apache v. 2.2.13 and PHP v. 5.3.0 on both distributions of Snow Leopard.
This alone is a bare bones strategy for serving basic web pages. I'd suggest running a database server such as MySQL for a more dynamic approach. I found no MySQL install on the client version of Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard Server, however, tells me I have MySQL 5.0.82 installed but I can't remember if I did that or not. If need be, I'll let the community comment on that here...

Anyways, a quick google search on editing the httpd.conf file of Apache will send you on your way.
As to updating DNS servers entries of your registered domain name (how you allow people to find your site via your web address "www.example.com") you will have to contact whomever sold you the domain name. They control this behavior. Good luck.

How can I better use my mac to link it with school work?

I would like to take full advatage of my mac, right now it just seems like I am using it for the internet and word.

Notability is a good app but syncing its work to your Mac is tedious. I believe you can only export it as a PDF and email it to yourself. Then, you can use Preview on your Mac to edit the work, but this is not an ideal solution. If you don't want to lose your Notability work, click its Share icon and send them as emails to yourself, or use Dropbox.
if you have both an iPad and a Mac, you're much better off using Pages or any other iWork app. They are designed to seamlessly integrate your work on both platforms. Use Notes for text; it works the same way. You already have Notes on your iPad as well as your Mac.
I don't recommend Google Drive or Google anything for that matter. Google Drive has had problems with Mavericks and I don't know if Google has fixed them yet. From Apple's presentation yesterday, they're planning on much more integration between Macs and iOS devices including a new service called iCloud Drive.
Google Drive, Dropbox and similar programs are quickly going to be left behind, along with all the problems associated with using them.

First u can display the command button near to the table by surrounding the af:table by panelCollection and panelCollection has some facets... even af:table too have some facets
In panelcollection facets make use of toolbar facet

You may be confused between retrictions that apply in different areas.
You can only authorise 5 computers to use a single ID.
You can only associate 10 devices with a single ID.
Associated devices include your authorised computers, thay also include mobile devics that use iTunes Match or automatic download from the cloud.
