How to insert timestamp ?

I have a table with column timestamp(6) .When I query the database the data is as follows
select start_time from timetable;
1/11/2007 2:52:35.231000 AM
1/11/2007 2:51:21.747000 AM
...so on .
I would like to insert the timestamp values into this. I can do this by saying insert into start_time values(SYSDATE) which works fine but if I say the following
insert into start_time values ('1/11/2007 2:51:21.747000 AM') or
insert into start_time values (timestamp'1/11/2007 2:51:21.747000 AM')
I get an error
ORA-01861 -literal does not match format string
help is appreciated

An ugly run-time error. But is not all run-time errors just plain butt ugly..
The real problem however is that most times such errors are caused by even uglier code.
In the case of an ORA-01861, it is caused by code that uses implicit data type conversions. This is ugly. Explicit data type conversions should be used.
Implicit means that you give one data type to Oracle (such as a string) when Oracle is expecting another data type (such as a timestamp). Oracle tries to accomodate you by converting the one data type to the other. The NLS (National Language Support) settings govern this data type conversion.
However, a good client will set the NLS settings as per the client's national settings (see Control Panel in Windows where a user can choose his/her date and time and other formats).
This means that the NLS settings will differ from client session to client session. Ugly code that use implicit data type conversions will therefore only work for some sessions. And cause run-time errors for other sessions.
Good code will instead do explicit data type conversions.
For example, instead of sending Oracle a string like '2007/01/11 09:06:00', the code will send Oracle a date as TO_DATE('2007/01/11 09:06:00','yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mi:ss').
Make it a rule from now on when coding (in any language, any database) - use explicit data type conversions. Do not write "bad" code that is prone to run-time errors.

When you do this, there is no fundamental difference between "08:00:00" and "here's your sign".
Data should always be stored in the correct data type. For dates and times, that data type is either DATE or TIMESTAMP. Period.
in this format: 08:00:00

I have a problem here trying to insert date into my table. but the problem is the date is supposed to be grabbed from the user input which is in textfield. However, I did a short cut and made the list of data into and array of String. so when i tried to insert the data into the table it gives me this error:
ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
so, I would like to ask if there is a solution to insert date into the table with the use of prepared statement..
for (int i=0; i<str_val.length; i++){
ps.setString(i+1, str_val);
ps.executeUpdate();
con.commit();
this is how i insert data using prepared statement. but the date is causing problem. Helps please....

Presumably you verified it.
You have two choices...
1. Create your SQL for your prepared statement using the oracle function todate(). You will need to use the exact format string, as defined by the function, that corresponds to the text field you have.
2. Use SimpleDateFormat to parse the string into a date. Use another SimpleDateFormat to parse the date into the format expected by oracle.

Inserting timestamps after set time

I am pritty new to labVIEW and am wondering how to insert a timestamp after a set time (say 30minutes) after the temprature has risen above a set level (in this case 30C).

Thanks for the post and I hope your well.
If I understand the question correctly (which Im not sure I do), you want to generate a time stamp after a certain condition?
If so, in the example below we time how long the loop has been running for. The trigger is the stop button. You could change this logic to produce a true when X amount of time had passed.
However, when you say time stamp - I assume you mean you want to time stamp your data? Now normally in DAQmx the waveform data generated already contains time stamps. If your trying to build your own waveform have you tried using the Build Waveform Node?
Or maybe your trying to do this?

How to Insert Image in a Column of a table

Hi
I have read several documentations but still could not find any relevant one that can help me in inserting a image in a BLOB column of a table.I have read about DBMS_LOB but still not clear how to insert an image in the table.
I followed following steps :
create table Emp_Identity(Id Number,Photo BLOB);
Insert Into Emp_Identity(1,'d:\vishal.bmp');
Please tell me steps to be followed.

    i have to insert horizontal lines in alv report.( RM07MLBB )
        actually my requirement is:
                           basis list = RM07MLBB.
first secondary list = another report is called here ( RM07DOCS )
                  i want to insert horizontal lines in the first secondary list, when i execute individually RM07DOCS , i can get horizontal lines, but when i dounle click in the basic list --> in the first secondary list , i am not getting the horizontal lnes.
functional modules used are REUSE_ALV_HIERSEQ_LIST_DISPLAY & REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY.
    here in this program,
                    is_layout = alv_layout.
hence i tried to give
              alv_layout-no_hline = ' '.
but not effecting.
          can some one please tell me , how to insert lines in the alv report.

     so i cannot insert horizontal lines in the first secondary list according to my sorting condition, i.e., in a single block there should be :
       if same delivery challan number is repeating they should come in the same block,
for the corresponding delivery challen number, if have po number, is repeating , they also should come in the same block.
                   in this way i have to seperate the blocks containing EXNUM , EBELN CONDITIONED.

At least you can try StringTokenizer to parse your text files. Or download a text JDBC driver to parse your files, for instance, HXTT Text(www.hxtt.net) or StelsCSV(www.csv-jdbc.com).

How to insert sales text (MM02) into a single record of a Ztable.

I'm extracting data from different data base tables and populating a Ztable which has Matnr as primary key and sales text as a field.
I have already used READ_TEXT to display the text and it is displayed in multiple records which in turn leads to duplication of Material numbers.
Now I want to avoid duplication of records (Matnr) as this being a primary record, and display the sales text of a particular material number into one single record.
Can anyone tell me how to insert sales text (MM02) transaction into one single record.

Hi,
you have to get the TextModel associated with the textframe. Once you got that, ITextModel has an Insert()-method. You could also process kInsertTextCmdBoss - there are quite a few examples around. I believe WriteFishPrice also inserts text into a frame, just as an example. Good luck ...

Hi,
There is no "Check box" in a table, a check box is a GUI (Graphical user interface) item.
What you want is to store a boolean value in a table. For that you can use the varchar2(1) datatype and store Y or N. (or anything else)
(you cannot define boolean as a datatype for a column).
If you're using a front-end application like apex then it might be useful for you to read the documentation about chekc boxes :
