HOW TO INSTAL FRESH OS ...BUT ONLY THAT!!!

Disc Utility when "cheking the disc tells me:
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 86832 instead of 86834)
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 346612 instead of 346615)
The volume MIR5 needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
... and Tech Toll Pro can not help also ... SO HOW DO I INSTALL ONLY OS with no CHANGES in aplications and rest of my hard drive.
Thank you
vmz

Did you try booting from your install disc, launching Disk utility, and repairing your disk from there? Or have you tried DiskWarrior?
You need to fix the disk directory damage before you install anything on this disk. If it cannot be repaired, you need to back up all of your data, reformat your hard disk, and reinstall everything from scratch.
DO NOT reinstall anything on a disk with directory damage; you will only make the problem worse!

  • 8.00 GB of installed RAM/MEMORY but only 3.99 GB "usable"

    Here is my system:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    CPU: Intel i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz
    Motherboard: MSI P55 GD65
    Ram: G.Skill 4x 2gb 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) dual channel memory (8gb total)
BIOS shows 8gb of installed RAM, Task Manager shows 8gb installed RAM, Resource Manager shows 8gb installed RAM. Right-clicking My Computer > Properties shows "Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.99 GB usable)"
With all the research and other forums posts I found, I have:
    - Tested all 4 ram sticks individually (before the G.Skill I had the same problem with 2 Kingston sticks)
    - Unchecked maximum memory in msconfig.exe > BOOT > ADVANCED
    - Updated BIOS to latest version (1.11 a.k.a 1.B0)
    - Loaded BIOS optimized defaults
    - Cleared CMOS and loaded optimized defaults again
    - Tested memory with Windows Memory Diagnostics tool with no errors
    - Removed CPU to check socket for bent pins...no bent pins...reseated CPU
    I have not:
Enabled "Memory Remapping" in BIOS because I do not have that option available in BIOS
I did read this post about G.Skill ram: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178019.0 and checked by ram settings and they are automatically already at the 9-9-9-24 timings, 1T command rate.
Yikes! What else is a man to do?

    OK.
Perform the following tests with 2 memory modules (4GB RAM):
    1)
1.a) use the slots 1 & 2 (those close to the CPU).
Check out the usable system memory
    1.b) use the slots 1 & 3
Check out the usable system memory
    2) msconfig.exe / Boot / Advanced
2.a) set the max memory to 4096MB and reboot
Check out the usable system memory
2.b) unset (uncheck) the max memory setting and reboot.
Check out the usable system memory
    3) use the same 2 memory modules (4GB), access the BIOS and make them run at 1066MHz (7-7-7-20 at 1.50...1.55V)
If all the above don't fix the issue, post a screenshot of the memory mapping (System Information / Hardware Resources / Memory)
    Good luck.
Alright, RemusM...got some new developments here. Thanks for sticking with me....
    1)
1.a) Slots 1 & 2 (single channel mode): 4gb installed, 4 gb read and usable by OS
1.b) Slots 1 & 3 (dual channel mode): 4 gb installed, 4gb read but only 1.99 usable by OS
I stopped there and did some more slot tests...and I stand corrected from my earlier comments (I had written down that each stick worked in each slot, individually, but these notes are from 5 years ago...so...however):
With only 1 stick installed (2gb), starting closest to CPU:
    - Slot 2 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 1 (black plastic slot): PC starts, 2gb read and usable by BIOS and OS
    - Slot 4 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 3 (black plastic slot): PC attempts to start (3 times, fans and lights start and then stop) and then it hangs (with fans and lights on but does not start)
Would I be right to assume my Slot 3 has been the problem all along? Or is the motherboard supposed to only start with 1 stick of ram in slot #1?
Also of note: since I first built this computer it has always took 3 attempted starts (fans and lights go and stop) to finally fire up (I know, I should have realized this red flag sooner and probably mentioned it).
Also of note: with 3 sticks installed - in slot 2,1,3 - the system reads all 6gb but only 3.99 usable by the OS again. Indicating, I would think, that only slot 2 and 1 are being used.

how to install Pages? it says that this app is incompatible with this Ipad.

You must be running iOS 5 on your iPad if you want to install Pages. You must be running iTunes 10.5 if you want to update the iPad iOS. So - you need to download and install iTunes 10.5 and then update the iPad software before you can install Pages.

My MBP was runnning unbelievable slow, I need to re-install fresh Lion, but when I upgraded to Lion, I did not got the disc or thumb drive. What should I do?R

Instead, you could restart holding the Command and R keys, which will start up on the Recovery partition Lion creates, and then restore the operting system on the main partition.
Before doing anything like erasing the startup drivek maie sure you have an external drive with a backup copy incase things go badly.

  • How to install Creative Cloud in only one session?

    Hi,
the situation is the following one:
I have a Creative Cloud license and it's installed in my laptop (Windows 7)
I would like to install Creative Cloud also in my work (a classroom) but in this place a lot of people works . I have a session in windows 8 with admin permission but I dont know how (if is's possible) to avoid that other people uses this software with my account.
I wonder that it's possible but I am not sure how do it.
Thank for your time and attention

    Hi A.Sancho Royo,
If you are installing the products on a machine that would be shared , then once you are done with your class , you can always deactivate the product and that should terminate the subscription on that particular computer and resetting your counter back to 1 (keeping in mind that you have only got the product installed on one machine except for this one ) .
I hope this helps .Please let us know if the ans works for you .

  • How to install iPhoto an DVD  only from my iLife 09 disk

Following hard drive replacement I now have Snow Leopard. I tried to install iphoto and DVD only from iLife 09 disk but could not find a way to install them only.
The full bundle will use all the free disk space I have which is 4 gbs. Following install of SnowLeopard from new disk iphoto and DVD did not install.

You can do what you want
    BUT
you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space for normal operations so you need to find a way to reduce disk usage - 4 GB is not enough and will cause slow operation and possible damage to systems or data
You seriously need to free up disk space - moving your iPhoto library to an external drive may be the answer -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • I want to install an app but only for one user on my imac with Lion

I have 2 users on my mac. I would like to install some apps (iwork) but only for one user and not the other user. How can I do this?

Setup of iWork in your wife's account should only occur the once.
Updates can be performed through your account and are usually performed via Software Update.
Messages should not be popping up in your wife's account if all the iWork updates have been performed.
Go to Software Update and download and install all the iWork updates.
Unless you keep OSX up-to-date, messages will continue to come up when your wife logs into her account.

  • Re-install (fresh) Yosemite but keep emails and iTunes settings etc

OK so I upgraded to Yosemite. Prior to this my mac was getting slow as I have always just upgrade over the old OS. But things are still slow. So it's time to do a fresh install.
I know how to do this but I want to maintain my iTunes settings and my emails and accounts even apps. But I have the following questions:
    1) If i do a fresh install then use migration assistant from my Time Machine backup to bring in the old apps and settings etc. Is this still better than just upgrading as I have done ?
    2) What method allows me to keep at least keep my iTunes settings e.g. playlists and content, emails and documents etc ? I can always re-install my apps if needed.
    3) Will a fresh install have any affect on my Boot Camp install ?
My iTunes is split over 2 drives i.e. I have use TuneSpan to move my video files onto an external drive.
    Thanks
    Mark

It is exactly the same. What you can try is to restore only your user files but not apps, so you will not restore most of the rubbish you had before.
    See the answer 1.
No, it should not, always that you do not format the Boot Camp partition by mistake, so be very careful.
In this case, the best way is to copy your user files to an external drive manually, so after formatting the hard disk and reinstalling Mac OS X you do not have to restore anything from the Time Machine backup and you only have to copy back the files, but this will not keep your mails.

  • How to Install Solaris for Intel so that it boots off from a boot floppy?

    Hi all,
Sorry to bother you with this one (I went through all documentations/manuals and could not find straight answers to following
    specific questions):
I have one hard drive with 1st partition used by Windows XP and a second partition that's a blank FAT 32 (using Partition Magic)
I want to use for Solaris for Intel.
    My very specific questions:
(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted
partition? I am asking you that because all manuals (except one) pretend that I can run my Solaris install on a blank Fat partition...
but I believe that documentation at multiboot.solaris-x86.org stresses that if the partition is not a blank UFS one, it wont install Solaris
(2)As you already know, some Oses like Linux or FreeBSD can be installed on a partition and be booted off a boot floppy.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only.
BTW, I currently have Solaris 7 for Intel.
    Thanks for the answers.

(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted You can install Solaris to that blank FAT32 drive but Solaris WILL convert it to UFS BEFORE doing the install. In other words, after the install it will be UFS and not FAT32 anymore.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only. Not that I know of. Some people have reported booting Solaris off of a USB drive though.

  • How to install updated free firefox feature that I'm repeatedly getting notified about

I repeatedly get the message that my firefox is no longer protected and that I can download a new version free, but can't succeed in doing it tho I've tried repeatedly. How do I install it, step by step, and why is it so hard to do? Do you have a phone number?
    Tom M.

    Hi,
I suspect that is because you only have the one ID in use.
I have the Apple ID  and my iPhone Number active.
A second Apple ID used on a second iPhone and that iPhone number are also listed but Unticked (not active)
All are shown in dark text.
Messages only invokes Face Time to connect to a Messages Contact.
It uses the ID you are using in FaceTime - no the one listed in Messages - although they can be the same.
The issue might be if you are using Different ones
The Invoking uses the Contact ID that is in the Chat.
This means at your Contact's end their FaceTime is pulling your iMessages ID from Messages and trying to call that ID.
It may not exist on the FaceTime Servers.
The servers for both apps are separate for each other.

  • How to install windows 8 on mac that already has a windows 7

I tried to find an option in bootcamp about creating another partition, but obviously there isn't anything. I just want to ask if there are some way to install another system beside lion and windows 7. Thx..and i do have a 500GB usb drive

On a Mac Pro in my case, to add D/E drive for another OS in existing Bootcamp Windows space if you have sufficient GBs, press Start button on Windows Desktop and key "computer management" into search box. In resulting Computer Management menu, Disk Management right-click on the C: space provides dropdown allowing you to Shrink the C: space by perhaps 60 GB, probably not less than 30 which will result in addition of D or E partition. Windows will format it Ntfs at this point and you can name the drive Windows 8 RP 64 or something.
Be sure that you have copied the "product key" provided you on download page for Windows 8 RP
( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/download ). So now when you have your Windows 8 ISO Dvd/Flash? created - I used Windows 7 right-click on ISO download to create DVD-R.
To install, you select this DVD via Mac's boot option menu. When install is done, you run Bootcamp updates as you did for existing Windows version. In my case, I only did first and last (Boot camp 3.1 and Bootcamp 4 or 5).
Note: you can change the default Windows OS boot and menu time in "Advanced System Settings"->Startup and Recovery Settings Tab. When Windows is default/target boot in Mac OS setttings you see the Windows startup menu allowing selection of either 7 or 8 OS.
After Bcamp updates there will be Windows updates and you should be safe with the installed Windows Defender which has been beefed up. You can get Windows Live including Mail, as you wish. Your Pics, Vids, Music can be accessd from the C: drive.
To remove the 8 space, when you no longer want it (First be SURE that Windows 7 is the default OS Boot in Both OSs!!), in Disk Management, right click allows "Delete Volume". When done, you can then "Extend Volume" in Windows 7 area to get it back to what it was.
If you want Windows Media Center which is not option in W 8 RP, you can add it as follows:
1.Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)
2.Enter add features in the search box, and then tap or click Add features to Windows 8.
3.Tap or click I already have a product key.
4.Enter this product key: MBFBV-W3DP2-2MVKN-PJCQD-KKTF7 and then click Next.
5.Select the checkbox to accept the license terms and then click Add features.
6.Your PC will restart and the Windows Media Center tile will be pinned to the Start screen.

  • Installed 3gb ram, but only 2gb usable?

I installed an additional GB of ram on my thnkpad T400, and after booting up, I right clicked computer in the start menu and went to properties. It says "3GB installed (2GB usable)".  How do I make all 3 GB usuable? from what I understand 3 GB is the max on a 32 bit OS
EDIT: Now after going to system configuration>boot tab>advanced>i set the total memory to 3000MB, and now under properties on my computer it says "3GB installed (2.46 usable)
    T400

Not that it helps, but I've got some notes about this issue on my T400,  and what sort of RAM I could make available.  Note that I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 now, not Vista 64 as it says in the notes.  You couldn't make me go back to Vista or any 32 bit OS if it was the last OS on earth

  • How to install software on an imac that doesn't have DVD player built in?

I just got my daughter an imac G3 running OS 10.4.11. I went to install iwork onto the computer, and it spit the disc out. i then realized the computer does not have a DVD player built in. How do I install newer software? It runs and plays CD fine. Any help?

Since the other Mac is an eMac, it's a FireWire (400) cable, also called 6-pin to 6-pin. OWC has it.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/1394A66036/
I'm not sure if Radio Shack has it. Look for something like the above.
An eMac may be one of the models where the optical drive is not accessible over FireWire Target Disk Mode. If the hard drive and optical drive are on the same IDE bus, only the one that is set as Master (usually the hard drive) is available to the other Mac.
So give it a try. If it does not work (eMac's optical drive not accessible from the iMac), you will have to reverse the roles of the two Macs. Start up the iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode. Connect it to the eMac that is started up normally. Set the eMac to start up from the iMac's hard drive in System Preferences +Startup Disk+ pane. If it's Tiger, your eMac should be able to start up from it. Restart. Insert the software disc and let the eMac install the software onto the iMac's hard drive. After installation completes, change the eMac's startup disk setting back, shut down the eMac, disconnect the FireWire cable, and restart the iMac normally.
Note: Unless you purchased the family license for iWork, it should only be installed on one Mac at a time.
