How to install 3c905c NIC in Solaris 8 in SPARC platform
i bought a 3c905c NIC. I want to install it into SUN Blade 100 (SPARC platform) Solaris 8. I do need help how can I configure this NIC?tks.
From what I have seen the SPARC based systems don't have drivers for anything other than Sun hardware. I am presently working on a 3C90x and Intel Pro/100 driver for the Ultra Sparc series.

How to install puppet agent on solaris 10 sparc
I would like to know how to install and configure puppet on solaris 10 sprc
Proxy configurations are most often done within the application software that needs that function and not necessarily done in the OS. That permits you to make very specific settings and not just generic global settings that could conflict with other software.
Can you tell us what research you have done on the topic?
For example, have you glanced through a Google search on "solaris web proxy" ?
If you are hoping to use a specific web server application your forum post might be better placed in a forum space for that software instead of in a general OS forum space. What application software will you be using? -
How to install lan card in solaris 11
Hi,
can some one please tell me how to install lan card in solaris nevada snv_55b X86, 5.11
When i do ifconfig -a it only displays loop back driver only
lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
The other driver was missing can please some one tell me how to install that?Well, the lan card has to be one that is supported by Solaris and you need to have the proper driver installed before you'll be able to get it running. A good starting point would be to look at the Solaris Hardware Compatability List (HCL) at:
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/hcl/index.html
There is a blue box which says "Check out the X86 device list" which may be a good place to start. You won't be able to pick out Solaris version you're running for the OS type menu but if you can find the device anywhere you should at least be able to determine which driver it uses so you can check that against your system. If you don't have the driver package installed, you'll have to install it before you can see the device. If course, if the device isn't supported you're stuck. At least the HCL can help you select a new interface card which should work. -

How to install OpenGL files on Solaris 10
I found OpenGL stuff is missing from the Solaris 10 system when I installed gtkglext from its source code and got an error after the 'configure' command.
bash-3.00$ ./configure

checking GL/glx.h presence... no
checking for GL/glx.h... no
configure: error: Cannot find GLX header
I remember that for software groups during Solaris 10 installation, I did choose the Entire Solaris Software Group to guarantee the developement packages are installed. Could you give some help on how to install opengl stuff from Solaris 10 installation disks? It's hard to believe that no one here (official Sun
developer network) can answer my question. Maybe few
people develop under Solaris. That must be it. -

I got syntax error at line 1 '(' unexpected
Thanks for advance!
xiaohua wanWhen all else fails, read the manual! The method changed from 6.1 to 7.0.

./filename.bin -mode=console
Don't worry, I made the same mistake when I started with 7.0.

Install newest JRE on Solaris 9 Sparc (64-bit)
Note: This message has also been posted on the JRE forum. This is the second attempt to post it here.
I would like to know the best method to replace the JRE that is installed with a Solaris 9 (SPARC) installation. A clean installation of Solaris 9 comes with JRE 1.4 and I would prefer 1.4.1 (64-bit) or newer. Sun provides self-extracting archive downloads of the latest JREs for Solaris, but I have been unsuccessful in using these. I followed the instructions at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-solaris.html
for doing a self-extracting installation, but this does not replace the contents of /usr/j2se with the new JRE. Additionally a pkginfo still points to the old JRE. I also read the instructions at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-solaris-64.html
which stated I should install the 32-bit version, and then the 64-bit version. Finally, both set of instructions mention installation from packages, yet I am unable to find the packages to download. What is the best method to remove the JRE from a Solaris installation and install a newer version of the JRE so the pkginfo is updated and the new JRE resides in /usr/j2se? Any assistance is appreciated.I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,
right? Please confirm. Thanks!!!For your information, you are asking the user community to confirm, not Oracle. Some (many?) of us are not employed by Oracle.
Therefore, the only answers you can get are from 'friends'. Nothing would be official and Oracle (and Oracle Support) would not be legally responsible.
Your safest bet would be to escalate the request wityh Oracle Support. -
Installing JDS 3 on Solaris 10 SPARC previously running CDE
Does anyone have experience of installing JDS3 on SPARC architectures? Most of the posts seem to relate to x86. I'm having trouble installing JDS3 from the Solaris 6/06 distribution.
I have a jumpstart config which starts with a SUNWCrnet and adds the minimum to provide a CDE with XDM log in. We thought we'd try JDS3 so I've expanded the profile to include all packages in the Sol10 6/06 distribution which are marked as belonging to the GNOME2 or JDS3 categories.
This gives the option for selecting JDS from the login session menu. The desktop comes up ok but then we get error messages:
'Failed to execute child process "xscreensaver" '
Attempting to start any application from any menu results in the following message:
'Cannot launch entry
Details: Text was empty (or contained only white space)'
I can't even open a terminal.
It looks like a major piece of configuration data is missing but I'm not sure where to start looking.
Any help for an old SPARC head gratefully received.Xscreensaver needs to have both /usr/openwin/bin and /usr/X11/bin in the user's $PATH. Add the line:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/X11/bin
in your .profile and that should do it for you. -
How to install .ttf fonts in Solaris 10 x86 10/08 ?
Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 x86 10/08 on my Pentium-II machine. It is working fine. I am using Java Desktop Session 3 (JDS3).
I have to install a few true type fonts (.ttf) to the machine and make it accessible in the gnome-terminal. I have the font files, that is .ttf files, in my system, but they are not installed.
Could you please give me the procedure to achieve this? Should I install any patches for this?
Regards,
SreeramHello Lubos Kocman,
Thanks for your reply. I followed your suggestion and put the .ttf fonts in the /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType directory and rebooted the system.
[Actually, you had mentioned to put them in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory. But I did not find the TTF directory. Instead I found TrueType directory and so I felt it appropriate to place them here.]
But still I am unable to access and choose those fonts from my gnome-terminal's font list. Have I missed something? The same result was obtained when I placed the fonts in the ~/.fonts directory also. Please guide me if I am doing something wrong.
How do we ensure that the system has recognised the fonts which have been installed newly? Any commands to confirm this? Are there any log files pertaining to fonts, where we can know whether the fonts were recognised by the system, and if not recognised, the reason for the same?
Also, I would like to paste the contents of /etc/release of my system:
Solaris 10 10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86
Copyright 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
Assembled 27 October 2008
Should I install any patches to this version of Solaris 10 to get the .ttf fonts installed. As mentioned earlier, I am using Java Desktop System, Release 3 desktop.
Kindly guide me in installing/accessing the .ttf fonts.
Regards,
Sreeram -
Installing FA311 NIC in Solaris 10
Since my onboard NIC won't work I've installed a Netgear FA311 NIC PCI card. I downloaded the suggested driver (SFE-2.2.0) which is on the compatibility list and added the associated links. Now when I go to "/usr/ccs/bin/make install" it comes back with "make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make target 'install' ".
Does this look familiar to anyone?I actually got the driver from Sun Tech Support but that's as far as they would help me. It's available from http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/sfe-2.2.0.tar.gz.
Yes there is makefiles in the directory where I'm running it.
