How to install a GDM theme manually?

Hi. My screen res is very small, and most menus for me are larger than the screen, so most things I have to configure manually. It gets irritating. How do you install a GDM theme manually?

just copy the theme directory (mostly the dir inside the tar.gz) to /usr/share/gdm/themes/

Hey guys, Newbie question here, how would i install a GDM login theme? such as this one...
    http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=116213
I Looked into the Arch wiki, and tried googling it and installing this software from the AUR called gdm2setup, but no help!
Please help, i wish to have a cool login screen

I use a similar log in theme, Arch Linux Simply Black.

I use gdm-old and archlinux-themes-gdm from the AUR.
These make it easy to change via GUI,  login window preferences, local tab.

  • How to install WEBm Plug-in Manually (unable to figure this out)

I need to export a WEBm file.  (A prior thread is still unanswered)
There is a 3rd party plug-in that allows this, but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to manually install it.
    fnordware/AdobeWebM · GitHub
(this is a thread posted by Adobe last year:  WebM export from Adobe Premiere Pro &... - Adobe Premiere Pro | Facebook)
I have a Mac, latest OS as well as updated Adobe CC.
It says I should have a Plug-ins folder.
I get as far as Common, and there is only a Dynamic Link folder.
There is, however, a Plug-ins folder outside of the Common folder.
I tried to copy the bundle file into that Plug-ins folder, but it didn't work.
also tried creating the folders Plug-ins
    then 7.0
then MediaCore and dropped it in there, but still it didn't  work
Then I replaced 7.0 with CC, and it didn't work
(I'm not in the Users folder.  It's definitely the HD Library)
    Any help?
    Here are the install instructions:
Installation: Copy the plug-in to the shared MediaCore directory:
    Mac:      WebM Premiere.bundle -> /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore
    Win:     WebM.prm -> C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCo
For older versions of Premiere, replace "7.0" with "CS6" or whateve
Usage:  When installed, you'll be able to import a .webm file into Premiere.
Go to File > Export > Media and choose WebM as the format to encode WebM video.
WebM should also appear as a supported format in Adobe Media Encoder.

I am editing my post because I found the answer in another post, this works.
"Maybe you already know and have tried this, but there are two libraries on the Mac.  There is the Macintosh HD/Library and there is the Macintosh HD/Users/[Home folder]/Library.  Just looked at mine, and I can get to my plugins on the first library, but I don't have a plugins folder from the second."

  • [Solved] How to install/configure GDM?

I'm trying to install and configure GDM without gnome according to these directions:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GDM
Unfortunately, those directions do not resemble my system.  Anyway, configuring the user to access X fails as follows:
    [root@varch arch]# xhost +SI:localuser:gdm
localuser:gdm being added to access control list
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 109(X_ChangeHosts)
    Value in failed requet: 0xd
Serial number of failed request: 7
Current serial number in output stream: 9
and the paths in the following command do not exists:
    # cp -t /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/ /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop /usr/share/applications/gconf-editor.desktop
My system does not have ../gdm/autostart.  It has a ../gdm/auto-login.....
Can someone point me the right direction that I need to go?   I have X installed and it works.  I've tried installing xdm, but was unable to get it to work so now I'm trying gdm.

May I ask why you want to install GDM, instead of a much lighter DM like lightdm or SLiM (or even why you want a DM at all) ?
I just installed GDM using the instructions in the wiki (to test the instructions), and it all worked as written for me. I installed the DM, then changed /etc/inittab as directed, and rebooted. GDM started and let me log in. /usr/share/gdm/autostart is right where it should be.
Please post the output of these commands:
    ls /usr/share/gdm
    gdm --version
And I have to ask, when was the last time you did a full system upgrade (pacman -Syu)?

This should be your first clue that something is very wrong... How did you install GDM?

Hello, I want to use Firefox in Linux with theme, which is used in Windows by deafult. I can't find any download, so maybe You could give me link or tell how to export it from Windows drive?

  • How to change GDM theme?

I just upgraded to Gnome 2.20, but I can't seem to be able to find how to change the GDM theme? I would prefer a userlist, not an ugly default one...there was a menu item before, but now it's gone.

Dheart wrote:In gnome: System -> Administration ->(or something like that my gnome is in Bulgarian...) Login screen
There you can set up everything.
I had no such thing in Gnome 2.30.2 with GDM 2.30.5. I had to install gdm2setup from AUR to have this option available or downgrade to package gdm-old (AUR).

  • GDM Theme && aspell with Emesene

    Hi,
Two quick question, the first one is regarding how to change the GDM theme, as I understood reading the forum, with the latest gnome it's rather difficult. Maybe a solution is there somewhere?
The second one, is regarding the spell check on emesene using aspell, I installed aspell and two dictionary (eng & Fr), and add those lines in "/usr/share/enchant/enchant.ordering"
And it's obviously not working, see the error coming up "Error applying Spell to input (enchant error for language: ) Plugin disabled"
    language:aspell
    fr:aspell
    Many thanks for your help,

Right I changed the config file like mention in the wiki, and was able to select then the French dictionary in Emesene, so Aspell is now working.
However, regarding the GDM, yes I check the wiki regarding the GDM theme and I have install gnome-control-center but I am still not able to change my GDM theme, as I have no option to do so.

  • How do I install a new GDM theme?

I just installed Arch for the first time. I have also downloaded a GDM theme but don't know to install it. I have created a "themes" directory inside "/usr/share/gdm/" and put the <themename> folder inside that. But don't know how I can tell GDM to use this theme.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I used to use SLiM because I found setting themes was easier, but now I just don't use a login manager
that's pretty old. The new gdm is incompatible with older themes and you can't actually use them anymore. Now gdm is using the available gtk and icom themes from the system.

Do I have to install gnome-system-tools to have this possibility?
Currently I only installed gnome and gnome-extra.
did you say 'yes' to all? i may be confusing the name of the entry, too. it's in the administrative tab in the menu (whatever it's called. 'system', maybe. usually the last one on the right) and it's usually something like 'login manager'. you might want to look at the menu editor and see if it's been somehow unchecked from the menu.

When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

The problem is that I burned these CD's myself from music that I added from my personal collection to iTunes. The INFO is ON the CD's (it appears perfectly when I put the CD in my Numark mixer...so I know the info is on the CD), but for some reason, my MAC PRO will NOT read the info on the burned CD when I place the CD into the MAC PRO. The CD was burned on a MAC that I no longer own. But there HAS to be a way to transfer songs from a burned CD with the INFO that is on the CD burned with iTunes.
    PLEASE HELP!

You need to use application manager of Pc suite to install the theme. It copies to phone by default. Ensure that the theme is suited to work with your phone.
