How to install archlinux from pendrive/usb?

I downloaded archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso.
I unmounted the pendrive.
Would i format the pendrive with ext3/ext4 or fat32 or fat16 format?
After that i would do dd if=archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso of=/dev/sda
If i use unetbootin, should i format the pendrive with ext3/ext4 or fat32 or fat16 format?
Has anyone used unetbootin to install archlinux from pendrive/usb?

I did:
dd if=arch.iso of=/dev/sda
But after setting bios boot option to usb and reboot,it's not booting from usb.
What's the problem?
I get the normal grub menu.

  • How to Install ArchLinux from harddriver???

I have downloaded iso image files from Internet. I want to install it from hard driver. How to do it? and where are the vmlinuz and initrd files?

    I suppose you can do:
    mount -o loop /path_to_.iso /mnt/cdrom
but this would have to be  on a secondary HDD otherwise I'm not sure of the outcome, since you would be writing to the same target as your source.
All files you need will be in the iso.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
If you don't have any of these Macs, you can't install Windows through a USB drive. Instead, buy Windows on a DVD. Follow Apple's steps > http://support.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1519/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6. pdf

Plug the stick and/or card into the appropriate slots on the side of your Air. Do you see icons for the devices appear on the desktop? Click into them to see what files are there.

  • Can I switch out a hard drive for an SSD without having to clone the existing hard drive, and then install Yosemite from an USB Boot Drive onto the new SSD?

Can I simply replace a hard drive with a new SSD and just install Yosemite from a USB boot drive onto the SSD? I recently bought a used MBP and it has absolutely no files on it except for the OS, and so I'm assuming I don't need to clone the current hard drive as I can just reinstall the OS onto the new SSD.

    Thanks.
Just a quick follow up question, is formatting the SSD with HFS+ done in Disk Utility?...
It's possible that the SSD will be set up for use on a PC, which means it will have a Master Boot Record partition table rather than a GUID Partition Table, which is what Yosemite needs. In Disk Utility, select the SSD and click the Partition button. Create a new Partition Layout and click the Options... button at the bottom. You'll likely see MBR is selected. Choose GUID instead and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for the Format.

  • How to recover photos from a usb key to put on ipad

how to recover photos from a usb key to put on ipad

What do you mean 'how to recover' ? If you want to copy the photos from the USB drive to your iPad then you can try using the camera connection kit, but a lot of USB drives require more power than is supplied to the kit and the photos need to be in a particular format : you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the drive with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

  • How to install mavericks from scratch

    Hi
I have just upgraded my imac with an OWC Mercury 120 Gb SSD and increased ram up to 12 Gb.
The upgrade was made by a service where I sent the mac with OSX Maverics and a few apps previously installed. Everything runs fine (no more tha 3 secs to start PS Elements) and I started to reinstall apps from my time machine hd, but later noticed that the Applications folder exists both in the SSD and Macintosh HD wich makes me think that osx resides in Macintosh HD. Now, as my iMac is middle 201, it seems I have to start the install from DVD Snow Leopard and not Maverics directly. Before the upgrade I tried as an exercise to install Maverics from an USB stick as suggested in a forum, but when the progress timer said 1 second left, no further progress and had to reinstall SL, then Lion and later Mavericks, quite a long procedure if there is not a shorter way.
    Thanks

You would have to install Snow Leopard (10.6) first. You can get SL for $20 from the Apple Store here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard..
Then Mavericks (or Yosemite, which is supposed to come out in a few days) would be a free download from the App Store.

how to install software from imac to macbook pro

Are you using one of the newer iMac's with no DVD drive? If so, you can either get an external CD/DVD drive (any make - doesn't have to be Apple) or, if you have another Mac on the same network that has a CD/DVD drive you may be able to do it by turning on 'DVD or CD Sharing' on that Mac (System Preferences>Sharing). Hopefully you'll see the disk on the Mac without the DVD drive and be able to install from there.
