If the directory still exists, the uninstall did not complete fully. BitDefender recommend downloading the uninstaller and running it again. You can get the uninstaller from http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

I have tried to remove Bit Defender Anti=Phishing Toolbar 2.0 from the Tools menu but the removal button is grayed out. Is there a way to remove it manually? I no longer use Bit Defender, it is removed from my computer. I am using Firefox 3.6.11. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

How to install BitDefender? (x86_64)

Hi all,
I want to test BitDefender on my system and have downloaded two files which appear to be wrapped rpm and deb files:
BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.amd64.deb.run
BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.amd64.rpm.run
Is there an easy way to extract the rpm and deb and then install one or other?
I seem to remember being able to do this but it is quite some time ago.

My dirty solution is creating service menu for dolphin/konqueror to doing file/folder scanning task.
Btw take a look at bitdefender blog, they create nautilus and konqueror integration as separate download.
Also im trying install it on Linux Mint 8 i686, everything works well
EDIT: i'm just installing bitdefender on openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 using *amd64.rpm.run, no segfault, so i don't have any idea what's missing

How do I disable Firefox anti-phishing?

Firefox is preventing my Norton anti-phishing definitions from updating.

Those two anti-phishing protections should be completely independent and not interfere with each other.

After Installing Bitdefender 2011 Firefox is very slow and worse when multiple tabs are open

Firefox performs very poorly after I installed Bitdefender 2011. There was no such problem with Bitdefender 2009. When multiple tabs are open, switching between them is not possible until tab contents are completed.

As ninjafox says, the problem seems to be the BitDefender Anti-phishing Toolbar. Disabling this through Tools -> Add-ons and restarting Firefox seems to fix the problem for that session. However, the problem then reappears when the computer is restarted, presumably because BitDefender re-enables the toolbar.
Another way of disabling all add-ons when starting Firefox is to hold down Shift while clicking on the icon (Windows only I think - at least doesn't work on Ubuntu for me).

Safari Anti-Phishing- How does it work "Warn When visiting.." option

So, when you turn that feature on: Warn When Visiting A Fraudulent Website," exactly how does Safari know that? I know it was introduced way back in version 3.2, but does it use Goggles safe browsing website info still? I can't seem to find any documentation on it for Safari 5 in how it works.
Also, if it does use Googles Safe-Browsing database, what happens when you turn that feature off and THEN turn it back on? Does it start from sratch or continue building the database where it left off?

The blacklists from Google’s Safe Browsing Initiative (where Safari checks for 'fraudulent websites') are contained in a database cache file called SafeBrowsing.db - the file was created when you first launched Safari, and if you have the browser open, the file is modified approximately every 30 minutes.
In other words it is part of Safari's (version 3.2 onwards) anti-phishing security feature.
As an alternative to turning off 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website', which will lose you that important security feature, you could delete that database file, (but first close Safari:
In Tiger:
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari (this is a folder)/SafeBrowsing.db
In Leopard*:
Private/Var/Folders/AF/AFONO9KnGpijQuAcxb6vf++TI/Caches/com.apple.safari/Safari/SafeBrowsing.db
In Snow Leopard*:
Private/Var/folders/iI/iIaUOKJyFS0xmSIANVYiD++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.Safari/SafeBrowsing.db
(*This location may vary depending on your OS. Also, the name of that weird sounding folder will be unique to each user.)
You can get to the Private/Var folder by using Go To in the Finder menu.
It will be recreated next time you open Safari, and will then start again collecting details of dodgy websites.

If you mean how to install an antivirus on an iPad the answer above is correct. You don't need any. Though there are some in the App Store, that don;t really work becuase of the nature of the iPad's operating system. However if that si the case, i;m not sure how the windows 8 comes into play.

Just bought a new (2012) mac mini and the hard drive is blank.
I don't own any other mac's so I'm lost about how to install an OS.
What do I need to do and No, it didn't come with any discs.

Have you tried this yet:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
If you are able to successfully boot to the Recovery HD, then:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. I found anti-phishing on our two PCs with Firefox (now 31) was NOT turned on by default, (I did not turn it off). Discovered this bug after a phishing attack.

I posted this more as an FYI. I'm using Firefox 31 on two PCs. and had a phishing incident today. I read your article on Firefox's ant-phishing / anti-malware protection, and using the two test pages you provided I found the phishing test page wasn't blocked. I followed your instructions and successfully activated it. For whatever reason on my two PCs (one is Windows 8.1 Update 1 and the other an ancient XP machine) only the anti-malware was running. Both computers were updated to version 31 in the last few days. I don't know if the failure to have anti-phishing turned on by default is a bug in this version, or was a setting copied from an earlier version of Firefox. I had never changed those security settings myself on any version of Firefox.

It's more likely this setting was carried over from an earlier version of Firefox. Some people disable one type of protection in favor of the other. Or disable the malware & phishing protection when troubleshooting other issues. Like to reach sites that Google says are bad but really are false positives.
You may have forgotten fooling with that setting or unchecked it by accident. For example, go back to the Security section in the Options. Move your mouse all the way over to the right underneath the "Exceptions" button and click your mouse along that area for each setting. You see how easily they could be changed by a misclick?
But since you say this happened on 2 computers, I'll ask a few people to test this out and see what happens.
You also said you had a anti-phishing incident? Could you elaborate a little more on that. I'm guessing you were in your email and opened a email you thought to be legitimate?
You'd only have been safe in that case if Google's database had been updated with info to block that exact phishing attack. Did you try revisiting the actual phishing attack after activating the protection? I'm curious to know if it was blocked.

How To Install Razor

I have noticed that there is a lot of interest but no real posting on how to install Razor2 on OS X Server (10.4). After a little searching, I found a couple of excellent sources. The primary source of info is the following URL:

Step 1: Download Razor2
-go to http://razor.sourceforge.net/
-download both razor-agents and razor-agents-sdk
Then follow the installation instructions at the following link:

(In my case, I used the CPAN alternative to installing the razor-agents-sdk. This is indicated in the installation link above)
Step 2: Integration with Spamassassin
-as per the link at agiletortoise (above), I edited /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf to have the following lines:
use_razor2 1
razor_timeout 10
score RAZOR2CF_RANGE_51100 4.0
Step 3: Restart Server
-sudo serveradmin stop mail
-sudo serveradmin start mail
After doing all of these, razor2 integration seems to work.
I am posting this to see if anyone has a different experience and maybe commenting on any limitations using this technique.

You are really far better off configuring postfix to do a better job of rejecting spam rather than accepting spam first and then filtering it.
