How to install CS4 on Mountain Lion successfully?

Whenever you insert Disc 1 of Adobe CS4 and run the setup, you will see a gray screen pop up "preparing for setup". Typically after this screen, you will get to the usual selection screen of what components to be installed as well as prompt for serial number. However, in Mountain Lion and some Lion machines, CS4 will be stuck at the gray screen "preparing for setup" and be frozen at the last 7/8 of the bar. I do notice a disk partition being mounted and disappear, but then again, that was in Lion. Mountain Lion just refuse to load the selection screen for installation.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I ran into the same problem, and my search brought me here. I finally figured out the issue. If you've tried installing and had the AIR error, and you've downloaded the latest version of AIR like you're instructed to do, then you try running the install again, it will treat it like a custom installation. You have to scroll down through the programs on the right hand side of the window and select the programs you want to install. Deselect Adobe AIR, Acrobat.com, and Adobe Media Player (they can be downloaded separately later), but select everything else, then click "Install". It should get you past the "Preparing for setup" screen - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/installation-creative-suite-4-or.html

  • Installing CS4 on Mountain Lion?

Dear peeps - could somebody help out please?
I bought a new Macbook Pro with OS 10.8.1 Mountain Lion (as the old one was beginning to die a death, being 6 years old). I have a perfectly legal copy of CS4 Design Premium, which I need to install on the new machine. However, as there is no optical drive and the software is on a disc - how do I go about installing it with minimum hassle/no extra expense...?
On other forums I am recommended to download a trial version, then enter the real product code - however it won't let me do this as the installer detects the download does not come from the App Store.
    Any ideas, anyone...?

    download the trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
if you see an access denied page, you didn't follow all the directions for downloading.
    use your serial to install/activate.
you should deactivate (help>deactivate) the copy on your dying machine.

  • How to install "Sketch" on Mountain Lion?

I have used the free version of EazyDraw 5.0.7 to open some Power PC AppleWorks 6 drawing documents on my 2010 MBP-13" running Mountain Lion.  But I would really like to have an inexpensive (the full version of EazyDraw is $95) drawing program for Mountain Lion -- similar to AppleWorks before.
I hear SKETCH is a free program but that you have to do the developer install--- HOW TO DO THAT?
I also believe Pages '09 has some limited drawing capabilities---
Strange that back in 1984-89 we had MacPaint and then AppleWorks etc. - but now it is 2013 and there does not seem to be an easy, simple program to just draw a few objects and do some layouts for Mac or???
Thanks for any comments on any or all of the questions I've posed here.  Appreciate it!
    Best regards,

How about a < $95 solution that will give you a drawing program that is both 100% compatible to your current Appleworks data files and has 100% of its functionality?

  • Installing CS4 on Mountain Lion, CD is not recognised by the maschine

I recently got a hard drive on my macbook pro replaced with loosing all applications, so I have to reinstall them. Previously there were no problems installing premium CS4 suit, which I purchased and installed in 2009. But this time, even though application 1 cd runs perfectly, and at the point when it requires to insert cd2, and when I do so, my computer sees it as blank cd, and the installation quits. What is wrong with it now? As I've been told by your representatives that it is competable with Mac OS X 10.8. Tried to install 5 times, restarted computer, checked the cd is not damaged and remained unused for 3 years.
    thank you.

  • How to install PS6 on Mountain Lion?

I recently acquired a new mac and now wanted to install my PS6 on it. However, the installation file appears not to be founded on CD. How to resolve?
    Thank you for your suport!

Karsten, hello! Please disable the autoquote feature of your mail program for easier reading on the forum.
Are you sure that the serial number you have would work on a PC? Also, I do not remember dual platform installer CDs.
The cheapest option is maybe Photoshop Elements 11, that can be bought for less than $100.
CS6 is the last "perpetual" version of Photoshop that you can buy, for $699.
Then, there is the upcoming Photoshop CC, that you can lease for $20 per month, or, if you opt for Creative Cloud, you can get all Adobe Creative software and services for $50 per month.

The installer for Logic Pro 8 has a bug which keeps it from operating in Lion or Mt. Lion.  Use the program Pacifist to install it.

  • My Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. how to why install OS X Mountain Lion ?

my Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. how to why install OS X Mountain Lion ?

    How?
Upgrading to Mountain Lion - http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade
Mac OS X: System requirements for Mountain Lion (10.8) - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Lion and Mountain Lion application compatibility - http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Kappy 08/2012 post on upgrading to Snow Leopard, then Lion or Mountain Lion -  https://discussions.apple.com/message/19401628 - including how to get Snow Leopard and Lion since Apple removed them from the online store.
MacBook upgrade possibilities - https://discussions.apple.com/message/19577869 - "The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion."
Why?  Good question.  I am a strong believer in not upgrading just because something new comes out, especially if you are running older equipment.  I would say unless you see a need for it, just stick with Snow Leopard until something comes along that absolutely requires Mountain Lion.

  • How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

How do I know if Mountain Lion has installed properly?

I can only guess that the install process was interrupted, maybe after the files were extracted but before the install, maybe on the reboot?
If it was dome ot would say version 10.8.  And you would have the reminder and notes apps as well, also an easy thing to check.

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • How will the new OSX Mavericks affect applications already installed and using Mountain Lion?

How will the new OSX Mavericks affect applications already installed and using Mountain Lion?

If you're asking about compatibility, that would be something you would need to ask of the app developers, though most apps compatible with Mountain Lion should be compatible with Mavericks. You can also consult the tables here:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps
though that information comes from user reports and so should not be considered authoritative.
If you're asking whether installing Mavericks will delete your apps, no, it won't, though a good backup is always highly recommended.

That has never been a feature of Mac OS X, but I believe there was some kind of third-party software that could add that capability.  i don't recall what its name is, but you must have had that installed, and it either isn't installed anymore (perhaps removed as incompatible?) or is not working properly in Mountain Lion.
