How to install DVD based software on Mini

How do I install DVD based software on a Mac Mini? Does it have a "CD/DVD" Drive? There appears to be a slot on the back. Is that a "SuperDrive" or whatever the **** they call it now?

If you have another PC/Mac on your network you can activate disc sharing to allow the Mac Mini to hijack the disc drive of that machine or acquire the Apple external drive or similar third party unit.
The current models have NO built in disc drive, the space is now reserved for the optional second SSD on select added value models, and can also be used to install your own second drive with little jiggery pokery.
With the likes of the Apple App Store, Amazon Store Microsoft Market (Office 2011) and Steam for games and other online vendors the need for physical discs is rapidly diminishing provided you have access to decent broadband bandwidth.
If you are a serious gamer then the mac mini is probably the wrong machine for you anyway (PC or console surely).
If you are using professional Adobe/Maya type software then the $70.00 external isn't going to break the bank is it ?

Yes, an external drive will be necessary.  You may purchase the Mac superdrive from the online store or one from another manufacturer.  All will work.

How to install Nokia Messaging Software (Push and Pull email) on SD CARD?
I have got Nokia Push email instaled on NOKIA 6110 Navigator. This instalation take all of my phone internal memory, and mailbox is in phone internal memory too. How to install or move program or mailbox to SD card?

I'm surprised that Nokia will spend all that effort to miss out on one little detail - EMAILS WITH ATTACHMENTS TAKES UP A LOT OF SPACE - The least they could do was allow us to point the application storage to the SDHC card.
I love the messaging app, but I just can't afford to give up so much phone memory - So it is not getting installed until we can point storage to the SDHC card.

  • How to install windows on 2011 mac mini

how do I install windows 7 onto mac mini? I have read people say to copy windows onto a flashdrive.  Then install from that.  Question is do I use my iMac to copy windows install DVD to flashdrive, then plug flashdrive into my mac mini and finish install with bootcamp?

If you want, instead of using a USB drive with the Windows installer (and as you have Windows in a DVD and not in a ISO file), I recommend you to buy an external optical drive to use it to install Windows on the Mac mini. Any external optical drive will work.

  • How to install window 7 on mac mini ?

how to install window 7 on my mac mini?

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Help Installing Unix Based Software

I have been searching the internet high and low for the past few days, and have found nothing to help me.
I'm trying to install a certain software that will give me ultimate flexibility over creating audio cds (in particular, the space inbetween tracks). This seems to be my answer (http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/) with it's GUI located here (http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/gcdmaster/index.html).
My only problem is, I can't figure out how the heck to install them! The Terminal is a very foreign thing to me, as well as anything Unix. Please help!

    Christina,
    Welcome to the discussions!
I would encourage you to try a package management tool like fink or darwin ports first if you are not yet comfortable with the unix command line. There are great tutorials around and this place is a great place to get advice from "veteran" unix users - so please ask more if you want help.
This package (as listed on the original site) is not reported as working on Mac. Usually it is because there is work to be done to figure out device drivers or find parts of the code that need to be changed specifically for one operating system.
Have a look at http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/cdrdao - as it appears that someone has taken the code and modified it to be easily installed using fink tools.
The steps to get fink running are here...
Good luck and post back if you have any more questions or need help with fink.

  • How to eject dvd when software will not?

After having my mac book pro's hard drive replace and added 4 more gigs of ram I had to load saved software that I managed to pull off the drive before it completely died.  Now I tried to add MS Office from my mac mini.  When I click on say, MS Word it brings up a statement that the installer did not install correctly.  So I dug up my disk of MS Office 2011.  I pur ir inro the Mac book pro drive and it never comes up on the desktop.  I even trided my external dvd drive that I used on my mac mini.  No go!  I put the disk into the mac book pro and now can not get it out.  The mac doesn't see it either.  I will see if there is a method to enable seeing the disk that would be a big battle to win.  Also I am using OS 10.9  or Maverick.  Help me...

You folks maybe correct in thinking OS 10.9 that I am using may be the culprit.  However, I have posted here rather then the OS Mavrick group (which I did not know of tnx) because I had read several folks discussing (but wouldn't ya know it I forgot the tech term and I am familiar with it) a software that binds the machinacal device such as the dvd drive to talk to the  other software, etc.  Oh, and when I insert Microsoft's office 2011 for Mac, the drive accellerates and slows down.  The drive never comes to the desk-top.  The drive according to other comments in different forums have said the the firmware needs to be current.  Then again, I would think that with the various system upgrades each system alteration / change would have the (hopefully, ha) necessary firmware to interface with devices / software and system, right?  Anyway, for all the reasons I only took my concerns here.  By the way I think I had started up the Mac Book Pro while holding down the track pad.  I may hit the track-pad and see, and we'll see if that allows me to bring up the software to install and / or eject the MS office 2011, etc.  Tnx for all your comments, I certainly appreciate it.

  • How to install Paralle deskop on mac mini

I am planning to purchase a Mac Mini.  Along with Mac I need to install Windows 7 also on that using parallel deskop. Mac mini will not have  CD\DVD drive. So how will in install paralle desktop and windows 7 on it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you already purchased Parallels and you have it in a disc, you have to buy an external optical drive. If you have another PC or Mac, you can use Remote Disc instead to install Parallels > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287
If you haven't purchased Parallels Desktop yet, you can purchase it in the Parallels website as a download
