How to install ECC 6 with Central Instance Only

How do I avoid install standard DB import because I want to use DB from another system, so I don't need to install DB import. But ECC 6, not like R/3 4.6C, I can't find a choice to install CI only, why?

This is possible...From the Installation Master you have to select the Distributed System Option(SAP ERP 6.0 SR..->SAP System -> Distributed System - > Based On AS ABAP) not the Central System.There you can select the Database Instance/Central Instance.

I don't know where's dads.conf file to make change

A little bit odd is an understatement. The first time I found I had to download over 1Gb of stuff to run a simple web server I practically fell over! Hopefully, the Apex Listener team will update it to have backwards compatibility with mod_plsql and we can ignore trying to install Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities...
However, until then the TNS Names error generally means that there isn't a TNS alias set up for the database you have referenced in the mod_plsql dad. If you open up the dads.conf file you should see something like
PlsqlDatabaseConnectString localhost:1521:databasealias
If you then open a command prompt and do TNSPING databasealias you should get a response like this
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ***)))
OK (20 msec)
If you don't it means you need to add it in.

What are you talking about exactly?
OS X comes with a virtual keyboard already. It is called Keyboard Viewer. You activate it by going to system prefs/international/input menu and checking its box (plus the box for Show Input Menu in Finder). At the same time you can check the boxes for the Arabic keyboard layouts.
You can then select the Arabic keyboard layouts and the Keyboard Viewer from the "flag" menu at the top-right of the Finder.

Hi,
Whatever the other two friends have explained is correct. We do kernal upgrade only on CI when the Operating systems of the CI and the Application Instances are same.
if the CI and AI are in different operating systems then we may have to upgrade kernel in both CI and AI.
Sapcpe.exe would synchronize the kernel only when the SAP systems have homogenous OS.

We have a ECC Platform (6.0 Ehp4) with 2 instances. we connect us to this Platform throught SAP GUI (7.30 SP7).
Currently we supply remote access service via an SSL gateway. We want to implement the comosant Mircosoft DirectAccess to provide this service.
Our platform 2 instannces is made from a microsoft cluster.
When we configure the SAPGui with instances, the DirectAccess works very well. When we use two instances with a logical there is an error name: the connection is established, the system load distribution of SAP means a node and receives a message "address xx.yy.zz.uu don 't reache "
Does anyone has a similar configuration?
Someone he found the solution to work with DirectAccess in SAProuter.

hi allen.
3-tier normally means 3 systems in one landscape. that is development, test and productive system.
that also means 3 databases and at least 3 application instances (3 central instance, n dialoginstances).
the installation of sap systems is described in the installation guides. i am not sure how it was in 4.7, but first thind to do is to install the db, as you did. when you install the central instance and the db is not available, you can check some things.
is the db running (on server 1)?
is the db's listener running? -> no listener, no db connection?
can you ping/connect the db server from the application server?
check the installation logs - you will find the most important info there...

I am having 500 gb HD.and in that 30 GB allocated as NTFS for WinXP.
Left space(470 GB Free) for linux and ECC IDES.
I want to know - how to partition this 470 GB in linux. I dont know which file system should be allocated and how it should be partitioned. I am using RED HAT LINUX Version 5.

Get the official installation guides at

However, they won't contain "now enter command X and now enter command Y". You will need to have a basic understanding what you are doing before you can install a SAP system (and the database).

NW04s - Install Central instance only

until NW04, SAPinst had the option of only install an Central Instance and then we could attach an DB for the whole system works.
In this new NW04s I didn't find this solution, have someone an idea how we could we do this right now ??

It seems that CI is now the last step for a distributed system!!!
then i couldn't install only an CI!!!
