How to install EXPECT on Solaris 10?

I have just installed Solaris 10 on my Sun Ultra2.
I want to write an EXPECT script.
How do i install EXPECT on my Solaris 10?
Edited by: Bazuka on Sep 22, 2007 2:47 PM

There are two ways, the easy way is to download the expect package from http://www.sunfreeware.com/ and the hard way is to download the source from http://expect.nist.gov/ and then compile it yourself.
If you have Solaris 10 6/6 or later all prerequisites should be available in /usr/sfw/
hope this helps.

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

How install routings in Solaris 10 6/06 ??It depends on what your routing script does. Solaris 10 introduces persistent routing, so you may just need to add the route once (persistently), then let the system take care of it.

  • How to install software in solaris

    Hi,
Sorry for posing this question in this forum. But I m helpless as in solaris forum I didn't get reply.
I m new to solaris. Can you give me some details how to install a tgz file.
    thanks in advance

    Go to www.java.com
    Click on download "solaris software"
Turn off your IE security settings and firewall, solaris needs to 'phone home' while it is installing. If you don't turn them off then you'll have to open ports 1, 2, 4, 99, 23, 25, 8080 and 80.
Once you're ready to go type in "suxmiownpen0r" and off you go.

  • How to install expect-5 on RHEL

    Hi,
    I have downloaded expect-5.44.1.15.tar.gz.
And found the following steps from google,
    patch -Np1 -i ../expect-5.40.0-spawn.patch
    ./configure prefix=/tools with-tcl=/tools/lib --with-x=no
    make
    make SCRIPTS="" install
From where I can download this patch?
    Thanks,
    Kavitha

Installing yum on RHEL 4 is apparently not a trivial task and google finds only outdated success stories from people using RHEL 4.6. Perhaps this is a good reason to upgrade the system, which will also be a pre-requisite in case you plan to use Oracle 11g R2. From what I understand, the latest releases of RHEL 5 come with Yum or make it easy to install, but unless you have paid support, OEL seems the logical choice when running Oracle products. Or CentOS if you have any reason to avoid OEL, but I guess that's not the case, otherwise you would not post here.
Back to expect, you have apparently already downloaded the most recent distribution:
The Expect home page is http://expect.nist.gov
    The Expect FAQ is http://expect.nist.gov/FAQ.html
    After you extract the package:
    # tar -zxvf expect-5.44.1.15.tar.gz
you will find a "README" and "INSTALL" file inside describing how to proceed. Packages like this are often created using (as root):
    # cd expect-5.44.1.15
    # ./configure
    # make
    # make install

  • How to install SUNWi1cs in Solaris 10 under Virtual Box

Hallo!I am a total newbie in Solaris.
I have installed Solaris 10 (guest OS)via Virtual Box in XP (host OS).I would like to install Oracle 10g in Solaris 10 but prerequisite s/w like SUNWi1cs and SUNWi15cs aren’t installed.
I have been trying to install this through commands such as
    pkgadd –d /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi15cs
but this directory does not exist.
How would I access this directory ?Will this mean mounting the CD-ROM with a Solaris 10 DVD-R disc or can I access the Solaris 10 virtual box files in the XP path shown below
    C:\Documents and Settings\JOEY\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\SOLARIS_10\PRODUCT
The Oracle 10g for Solaris zipped file is in the XP OS.How do I transfer this file (and any other files in XP)into Solaris 10 to be able to install Oracle 10g in Solaris under Virtualbox?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
If u have installed Solaris operating system on some VMWare by iso file then it will treat iso file as CD. So that following steps will resolve ur issue.
    1. Mount that iso file into /mnt file system.
For example ur iso mounted file system like this:-
    /mnt/cdrom/Solaris_10/Product
    2. Then run this command:-
    pkgadd -d /mnt/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi512
It will ask would to like to add these then type Y
    3. Successful installed package message will displayed.
It is the right way to add package from source

  • How to install gcc on solaris 7

    Hi everybody
I downloaded "gcc-2.95.2-sol7-intel-local.gz" from sunfreeware.com site. I unzipped it but i don't know how can i install it on my solaris intel 7. please help me.
    Thanks
    Behrad

Seeing as how this is an old post I assume you already figured it out, and unless I'm way off it's a simple matter of using the pkgadd utility. Something like this I believe (while your in the directory):
    pkgadd -d gcc-2.95.2-sol7-intel-local .
If you don't have enough room in your /usr/local or /opt directories, you might need to use the -R <root-path> to redirect the install to a different location. You must be root when installing.
    Good Luck,

  • How to install from a Solaris 8 install .iso?

I want to try to install Solaris 8 in an LDOM. I know that it is "not supported" - but it may be possible, according to some discussions I have had, so I want to try.
Unfortunately, when I try the naive approach and add the iso image of the CD as a virtual disk to the domain and try to boot from it, it tells me the file isn't executable. The explanation, it seems, is that the CD actually contains several slices, and only the first one is visible when you look at it as an iso file. So, I guess my question is: Is it actually possible to get to a point where I can try to install from this CD image into an LDOM?

Well, if it was supported you would be able to ;)
The thing with the SPARC installation CD's is that they are indeed sliced, i think the reason for it to be sliced is that different slices supports different CPU architectures, so that slice 2 (or slice :b when you boot it from an OK prompt) was originally, long time ago, used for the sun4c CPU's, slice 3 (or :c) was used for sun4m and slice 4 (:d) was used for sun4d.
Then came sun4u which used slice 5/:e
Then slice 0 would contain a HSFS filesystem which actually contained the packages and the installation program.
You can get the vtoc with dd, and then extract the slices you want with dd and access them using LOFS. But yet again this is probably futile. I don't think there is a single chip in the T4 hardware which is supported with Solaris 8.
Given how powerful the T4 seems, and how ineffective Solaris 8 could sometimes be at utilizing resources, it would also seem like a waste..
Have you had a look at native zones? that way you can run Solaris 8 / 9 in zones under Solaris 10..

  • How to install software on Solaris?

I am new to Solaris but have experience on Fedora. I installed Solaris 10 with the default software. Now I want to install gcc on this system. How can I do this? Does Solaris has RPM like Fedora? I found that in Solaris DVD there is a directory "sol_10_508_x86/Solaris_10/Product/SUNWgcc", is this the gcc I can install? and how?
    thanks.

That's a very good question. I'm pretty new to Solaris myself as well, I needed a torrent client and went to http://www.sunfreeware.com/ from where I downloaded libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local.gz then I followed the instructions here, which basically meant running as root form the terminal gunzip libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local.gz and pkgadd -d libtorrent-0.11.4-sol10-x86-local and the installation seems to have went without a problem, but the problem now I'm facing is how to run the program that I appear to have installed successfully?

    Hi,
Not certain what your external system is, but it may be worthwhile to go through the QM-IDI documentation to see if that meets your requirements
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/26/b43927506511d182c20000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
Alternately, take a look at BAPI_INSPOPER_GETDETAIL to determine how the lot expects to receive results, and BAPI_INSPOPER_RECORDRESULTS to set the results accordingly

  • How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?

    Hi there,
How to install owb server-side software on UNIX Solaris (SPACR-64)?
    I've read the install guide
    and it mentions
    3. Start the installer by entering the following at the prompt:
    cd mount_point
    ./runInstaller
I don't have access to any graphical interface on the UNIX box e.g. x-windows nor any cd with the software, just the solaris software downloaded from web - does this include the runinstaller
and is the runisnatller just a command line interface?
I hoped I would be able to download the software from oracle website and then simply run the a setup scrip?
Is it possible to do this? Would I simply substitute cd mount_point to cd <directory I put software)
I've never ran oracle universall installer on UNIX before.
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
You can install the server-side software from the downloaded software.
    You don't need the CD
You do need an X-windows client on your computer to connect to the server OR work directly on the server.
Without X-windows you cannot start the Oracle Universal Installer.
Maybe there is a command line installation, I have never used this.
    I hope this helps.
